Impressive-looking building tucked away along a side street. It was quite dark inside. Doors opened up at the rear to the neighbouring Stable Bar, which was much busier. One of a number of Bridgnorth pubs currently in the Good Beer Guide, I wasn't overly impressed. Regular ales are Hobson's Town Crier & Twisted Spire & Wye Valley HPA. 2 guests were Ludlow Stairway & Bristol Beer Factory Independence. A fairly small place. But, we managed to grab a table.

Went for food with friends on a Saturday night - place was heaving, so glad we had booked. Excellent meal and very personable staff. Had a couple of pints of what the guy servinbg us said was a 'ruby porter' from Hobsons. Didn't catch the name - not sure Hobsons do such a thing (except Postmans Plum Porter at Xmas). Might have been Old Henry. Anyway it was excellent !

Wow - C16th Coaching House. #1 for food in Bridgnorth (according to Tripadvisor), in the Good Beer Guide 2017.

Had to be checked out.

Lived up to all expectations. Great staff. Prompt Service. Excellent Food and the best Hobsons Town Crier I have had.

The Stable Bar in the back courtyard is worth checking out - although its nothing to do with the pub.

Just seen the Stable Bar is not entered yet

Definitely worth a visit although the Pardoes wasn't on top form. However the food is brilliant. We followed up with beers at the Stable Bar behind; see separate entry.

Still good, nice environment - stable bar at the back and courtyard are more young/busy/'party' (on weekends) and the front drinking & dining area (the 'old'pub) is laid back and nicely renovated. They have good beers on usually (even found some Jaipur in there last Christmas) Worth a visit.

Sadly only had time for a couple before driving home but this was yet another great pub in the town with an excellent range of beers in the two bars with the regular Hobsons and Wye Valley plus guests including a Sarah Hughes and Kelham Island when we there, suggesting the landlord knows his beers!
Food looked good too.

Nice pint of Holdens Golden Glow and Hobsons Town Crier in the yard outside the Stable bar behind the Kings Head.

Both bars have a completely different character with the Stable bar being a long narrow bar with wine bins on the back of the bar, not much seating and windows facing out into a very nice courtyard with picnic tables , can get packed but on Sunday night was quiet.

The back of the courtyard is also home to the Bridgnorth Brewing Company.

The Kings Head itself is more laid out for dining in the left hand part as you enter but in front of the bar to the right and to the back of the bar to the left there is a more pub like layout although quite modern decor and soft furnishings which gives it more of a hotel feel.
Good selection of ales in both.

This is an excellent pub in Bridgnorth with a traditional Shropshire black & white exterior and updated/traditional interior that worked well for me.
I had an excellent pint of Hobsons Best and a very good home-made hamburger with big fat chips. My veggie wife liked her risotto and the staff were friendly and helpful, What's not to like?

Archivist - I'd agree with you if the 'old' Kings Head had boasted an attractive traditional interior ,but in fact it was pretty drab - very '1970s pub' with fruit machines, horse brasses and and all the usual junk. Honestly the new look place is a vast improvement. The beer seems to be cosistently good too.

I do like this place. Always an early port of call for me. The place is busy with most of the front tables occupide. I'm enjoying a nice pint of six bells 'bobby dazzler'. Also on are sadlers stumbling badger, hobsons best and town crier. Sadly gk ipa was also on the bar! Still the pint i had was perfect. I would alway recommend this place.

Just a little update. Visited yesterday and popped into the Stable bar, where there were a couple of further ales on, not served in the main pub. I was hoping i would warm to the interior of this place a little more than on my first visit - i didnt. In fact, it felt really pretentious.

You have to go for the choice and quality of the beer - but a misery like me retains the right to whinge about modern interiors - indeed, i would rather drink in the beer garden in the rain

BBC Apley and bitter were on, along with Hobsons TC and Best

The exterior is in a stunning Tudor style, the interior is a mix of the old beam structure and a new modern style, that i just didnt like, though clearly i am in a minority here as the other posters love it.

There is a nice beer patio area, which i retreated to, as i didnt like the inside and due to the fact is was glorious weather. The Bridgnort Brewing Company are located behing a couple of gates in the yard, closed almost in Wonka fashion!

The beer choice was pretty good, Abbots, Hobsons Town Crier and Best and BBC's Apley. The Apley and the Best were fine.

Will try the stable bar next time if the weather is bad!

Lots of locally sourced beers make this a GBG regular in the town. Beautiful timbered building, to the extent that makes the interior seem quite modern, although it's still got plenty of interesting features, beamed ceilings and flagged floors, but rather open plan, and some leather sofas etc. give it a stlyish ambience. Mixed clientele, a young crowd predominantly on my visit. Not far from the Bell & Talbot, Golden Lion and Friars Inn. Another Bridgnorth classic.

We visited quite late on a Saturday night. Busy, but served promptly Five real ales in front bar, I tried home brew Bridgnorth Best Bitter. If we had had another night in Bridgnorth we would certainly have returned.

Visited May 2nd. Sampled Hobsons Best Bitter which was very nice. Outdoor yard area through to Stables Bar (Bridgnorth Brewery products).

I really enjoyed this pub. It has a nice atmosphere, interesting interior and great beer. The Bridgnorth Best Bitter (4.4%) was excellent. Will add this to my list of 'must visit' pubs for when I'm next in town.

This is a great pub. Two distinct bar areas. The Stables bar at the back is the Bridgnorth Brewery Tap, which is where you'll find their beers on. Had a pint of the Bridgnorth Apley Bitter which was really good, had another Bridgnorth beer on plus Hobsons Town Crier & Best and Exmoor Gold. Also has an upstairs room over the Stables bar which seems to be more foody. Pretty busy for a freezing cold Tuesday. Ended up in the front bar which has two "real" gas fires, talking to a couple who lived a few miles away. Very pleasant.

A characterful town centre 16th century pub, in a place where such buildings abound. Beamed ceilings, flagged floors, big fireplaces, leaded windows its all here. The beers all here too with the Bridgnorth Brewery operating from the rear, although, strangely, none of their beers featured amongst the five on view. Local brews are however a speciality. Comfortably furnished and a food menu, its worth a visit, especially if you can tear yourself away from the nearby Railwaymans Arms on the Severn Valley Railway station platform.

This place is excellant. To quote the 'GBG' it a 'Sympathetically renovated grade II listed 16th century coaching Inn'. The job they have done is special. The is another bar out the back whick was close at time of visit but this is advertised as 7 hand pumps and as the brewery tap for the 'Bridgnorth Brewery' which is also located here. Beers on offer at time of visit were; Hobson's 'Best and Town crier',
Exmoor 'Gold', Olde Swan 'Entire' and Bridgnorth 'Apley Ale'. Tried the Apley Ale which went down very nicely.
trains2064 - 5 Aug 2008 09:03
Complete renovation (unrecognisable as the 'old' Kings Head) and some good beers on offer.
Upton_Parker - 23 Jun 2008 17:16
Enjoyed a visit to this Good Beer Guide pub while in Bridgnorth for the beer festival in September 07. It has been renovated to a great standard, and serves good real ales both from the bar in the pub, and a new bar outside where the brewery is. There are plenty of handpulls with a good choice of both their own Bridgnorth beers and guests.
