user reviews of the Bull Inn, Linton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The previous review is obviously written by someone with a personal vendetta against the owners. I've been drinking here for several years and never seen any improper behaviour regarding lesbians or otherwise. The only recent issues have been an isolated incident regarding certain idividuals from the travelling community. and local residents who were against the late music licence. This is a bog standard sheps pub with a great garden, great views and a value for money carvery. Make up you own mind.

Full of fuckin assholes. I visited this pub from the states and the food portions are very small (there wasn't even a separate plate for the fries) and there was some interesting green leaves in my cheeseburger. This pub boasts the best views in Kent but all I could see was countryside. No pyramids or copies of famous landmarks to be seen. There wasn't even a pirate ship! I'm not even f*cking with you!
Needless to say I had to get the hell outta there so while Hank was settling the bill I walked over to a nearby wooden post to rest my gut. It was then that I exchanged glances with a lonesome young female at a nearby table. Nothing felt unusual at first but then I realized she was drinking what you guys call beer so I figured immediately that she was a queer. I don't really mind the dykes it just took me by surprise. I looked the other way as not to antagonize her, but she was already licking her fingers and pointing at me.
Shortly afterwards not one but two Mary Machos emerged from a nearby bush. Both were wearing tank tops and where naked from the waist down. It must have been a convention. They sat with the lonesome lesbo and ordered garlic bread (unsliced) and cucumber. Obviously too eager to wait for her food, the veteran dyke allegedly decided to sexually assault her much younger other half with a pepper mill. Absolutely disgusted I decided to shield my eyes and waddled inside to find Hank. He had been caught up chatting shit about agricultural machinery with two South Africans. Next week I will be back to take everyone's names because I think I'm going to consult my attorney about this.

Service with a sneer
The attitude of the staff in the Bull is so appalling, I dont quite know where to start.. I used to go in the Bull years ago but unfortunately, the change in management has spoilt a beautiful pub. I stopped eating here after encountering 2 of the rudest and most hostile staff Ive ever had the misfortune to meet (and I think they were in charge!..). I ordered a steak & caramelised onion sandwich which was grisle not steak and raw onionas no one asked us if the food was ok, I had to walk to the bar to ask for an alternative, which was met with a scowl and silence!
I will now only go in the Bull for a drink with friends and the staffs attitude to customers has now become a standing joke- on every occasion we have been there for a drink and a chat, we have sat in disbelief at the way they speak customers, loudly talk about customers and agrue amongst themselves infront of customers.
Today, the girl who is usually barking at customers, said very agressively to a man across the bar, have you just sat yourselves down at a table? you cant do that! because he had dared to find himself a table when there were no staff around to seat him and then loudly discussed the outrage with another member of staff! Sadly, they seem completely unaware that their attitude to customer service is up there with Basil Fawlty and their behaviour is completely unprofessional. There are only 2 reasons why this pub still as any customers, 1. the pub is beautiful with fantastic views 2. the carvery is popular.
Do remember if you go there that THEY are doing YOU a favour and make sure you follow the orders of the little Hitlers that work there

My son, husband and I went for Sunday lunch 14th August 2011. We were very upset and distressed by the owner/managers barage of abusive.

Firstly our son has a very severe nut allergy which means he is very limited to the foods he can eat plus he and my husband do not eat the vegatables that were offered.
My son who is 17 was given two small slices of meat, 1 yorkshire and told to help himself to the potatoes which were not very nice. I asked the server for my son to have two more yorkshires explaining our situation although he gave them to him, he made a big deal about it. There was also sausage and stuffing on offer, however my son can not risk this.
After our meal and feeling annoyed by the service i asked to speak with the manager as soon as she came to the table she started shouting that we had eatern our meal and had not ordered a starter or sweet.
I tried to explain to her that my son could not eat them and therefore we do not and she was very rude, aggresive in front of the whole resturante. i feel disgusted by her behaviour and the fact we have been discrimanated for not being able to eat some of the food. i only wanted to ask her why she had a rule so ridged.

Came out for a meal with the wife last Thursday Evening, and hey, don't beleive all you read! We were made welcome and enjoyed a great carvery - Fresh, not like those that stay under the hot lights for hours, and all for 9.95.
It was great value and highly recommended!

I DO NOT recommend this pub! I waited 25 minutes during a very quiet lunch time for a salad and a sandwich. Salad basic but was 9. Sandwich actually inedible - never thought I could say this about a sandwich. When asked where food was (after 25 mins) staff shouted at me! I really do not recommend.

I am a fan of Shepherd Neame, in general, and this pub appears at first site to be a winner. Great location and garden. However, the food is appalling and the staff are incredibly rude. Do not even think about eating there.

I was taken here for Sunday lunch, and it was amazing...one of the best I ever had. So the reviews below really shocked me...and after looking at the reviewers it seems there's more than meets the eye as this is the only pub they've reviewed.

It's Shepherd Neame, so the beer's not great, but the staff were friendly and cheeky, the menu was mouth watering andthe food was seriously top quality.

But by far the best thing about this pub is the view from out back...feels like you can see half of Kent, and the decking, sunshades, etc compliment it beautifully. There not many better places to sit on a gloriously sunny afternoon.

Just had a meal at the Bull tonight and it was awful !
Steak was gristly and tough. Chips were inedible and the gravy
on the liver was overpowering. We complained and nothing
was mentioned when we paid the bill. 64 worth of rubbish.
Worse meal ever !

I guess we must have been lucky (given the other reviews). Visited this Pub eith two friends a couple of wqeeks ago, and couldn't fault it. The beer was fine (I'm a Fullers man really) and the food better. The staff were friendly and attentive, the view from the garden on a summers evening (yes, there was one) amazing.

Really must take the wife!

Nice looking pub in a lovely location, but that is all that is good about it. The staff are rude and quick to get in a mood if you ask a question. Noticed the staff mocking my grandfather for being deaf, luckily he didn't notice himself. The food is poor to say the least. Dried up salad. Small portions. Nothing tasted fresh. Wouldn't go again.

Visited the Bull this lunchtime. Shepherd Neame pubs are not my favourites but Linton just happened to be the start and finish for a walk so I agreed with my wife that we would have lunch there. On arrival at the bar there were three handpumps with two pump clips visible. Both were Sheps but I did not recognise the beers. On enquiring I was told that all real ale was off as they had run out of beer! A tied pub for a real ale brewer running out of real ale? What is happening to the world?

Anyway, a swift about turn, a quick Victor Meldrew impression to my wife who had found a nice table in the garden and a swift drive to a proper pub called the Lord Raglan at Rabbits Cross near Staplehurst.

Meal was awful - all steaks came out well over cooked, chips under-cooked and cold, pepper sauce cold, pork tough and burnt. When we asked to speak with the owner she gave us a barrage of insults before we could say a word and told us we were welcome to leave once we had paid for four out of six meals! There were ants on the table too. Don't go there!!!

I tried it again a week or so back, and agree with rpadam that it's improved. A large part of the place is devoted to food, as tends to be the case these days, but the beer was in good nick (though Sheps would never be my first choice), and the atmosphere was lively and pleasant. Friendly and helpful service, too. And of course, with the summer months coming up, a fantastic view from the garden.

Traditional village inn on a main road, which has concentrated on food in recent times. There have been a few changes of management over the years, but the current team seem to have got this place back to what it should always have been. Well-kept Shepherd Neame beers (3 handpumps). Much more friendly atmosphere than on my last visit.
