Now more restaurant than pub, with small couched drinking area and everything else set for dining. Nice big garden but no use in rain. Spitfire ok

May i just say living close by to this pub the play area was there way before these owners took over. i started going there when i was 4 i'm now 30. Since these owners took over i would not even consider putting my children in the same environment as the language i over heard from the landlord- he was completely in-appropriate for a "family" pub/restaurant and there was a child in a push chair 3 meters away). I am simply putting my opinion and letting others know of my experience here. When i was last there the land lady was drunk and didn't mind sharing the fact that her husband beats the living day lights out of her! LOVELY FAMILY PUB - NOT! When i walked in i should of known it was going to be a horrid experience - so awkward- you feel like an extra-terrestrial! The only good thing was the wine.... but then i can really buy wine from .... erm .... ANYWHERE!

my family and i dine and drink in the harrow- this pub has always been a family pub hence the childrens play area in the wonderful garden. the owners have welcomed families to their pub with open arms, and the new decor is great the guy who wrote the crap before i would love to see your house !and if children are not your thing stay away of family pubs

Went to this pub for a drink & maybe some food on a Friday evening recently, most of the over reviews here only confirm what I thought while I was there....
This pub seems to have been sort of re-decorated-but looks poorly done, imo. The drinks seemed to be good, some choices of lager, ales etc, reasonable prices. The dining area seemed almost empty with just two couples eating. The bar area was not exactly condusive to a nice dining night out though with several locals and their young children shouting & crying, 3 push chairs blocking the bar, a drunk and rather irritating women sat nearbye also being loud and moaning about her "fxxing boy friend" and as for service we were ingnored so were unable to order drinks by the apparent "landlady" who seemed more interested in drinking and chatting to friends at the end of the bar than serving us. We got drinks in the end from another young lady appeared and whom had trouble forming a sentance let alone a smile and greeting. I know this sounds harsh but what are these people thinking! But dont take my word for it - go along and see. There's plenty of other nice places to drink and eat on a Friday where they do make the effort- but this venue aint one of them.

our sunday lunch at the harrow was brillant, washed down with a good bottle of merlot, the place was busy and vibrant.. they even held a party in the afternoon and talking to a guest she confirmed that the buffet food was worth every penny, with a great service, so may have our daughters wedding here.

nice to see a country pub left and trying to pull out all the stops during this hard time

Bit disappointed when my friend told me to meet her here after my last bad experience. The place was lovely and warm, the service and wine was good, the food pretty good too. Thought I'd been a bit unfair with my last comment. Finished dinner, stayed for a few drinks and everything went sour I'm afraid. Couple were complaining next to me and were dealt with by a very rude and abrupt landlady. The drunken land lord stuck his nose in and made a bad situation worse. There was a terrible atmosphere from then on and obvious tention between land lied, land lady, staff and customers. When leaving I said goodbye and was simply glared at. I stick to my first opinion STAY AWAY from this place! Miss piggy indeed, and I love the star wars reference! Couldn't have put it better myself! I can believe they ruined their last place, obviously didn't learn from their mistakes!!! Won't be returning

Dreadfull !! Landlady is rude and abrupt, never never never again...Pity because the food is OK, just the people who run it have no idea on how to be nice.

Having been to this pub on many occassion I have to say how much I enjoyed my last visit. The new owners have only been there a few months but already appear to be making many improvements. Especially concerning the high standard of food and choice of beers and range of wines.
They have also opened up the second fireplace near the restaurant which adds to the lovely country pub feel as well as helping to warm the restaurant, which it has to be said did use to struggle with keeping warm during the winter months.
I thoroughly suggest paying a visit and discovering a wonderful country pub with excellent food for yourself.

i have been going to this what was " great pub/restaurant since i was a little girl with my parents, new people have taken over, i went to buy my new years eve tickets for my familywhen i spent hundreds of pounds for this event i stayed for a glass with a friend.... unfortunatley the land ladys husband was completly drunk and started shouting "enjoyin your drink are ya!" so i tunrt round and though i'd be polite and said " yes thankyou" he then started shouting at me "well you can put your drink down, and get out!" i said i'm sorry?"i dont understand, i have just brought new yrs eve tickets as well!" he got in my face and agressively said "YEAH?! WELL YOU CAN HAVE A REFUND ON THEM AS WELL!" I said "but my children will be devastated, he then called over the bar maid (at this point i was wanting to cry as i felt bullied) he then turnt round and said Children? i said yes! he then said "well we dont take to kindly for kids in this pub any way!" (they have a play area out side!!!) with that the land lady pulled me to one side and asked what was going on i said "not a clue i was not even talking to him he just started shouting at me ... i feel so embarrassed in front of the other customers. she said he is half deaf (no excuse!!!) i asked for a refund she said "no no he's just drunk, he'll forget it ever happened in the morning!" i said "no i want a refund now please she obliged as she new i was in the right!!! i would never want to take my children there ever. the land lady's husband is very revolting is huge and looks dirty (reminded me of that big over wieght thing off star wars - not what you want to be looking at when your dining. good luck to all that visit you'll need it! we have since wrote to shephard neame about the bad way i was treated! thanks Harrow for destroying everything! my memories of coming up there when litlle and mine and my kids plan over xmas!

hope the new landlord and landlady look after this pub better than there last one when they left with no pay for staff and with lots of unpaid bills not nice people. will have the pub in a bad way within a year.from x green dragon customer.
eatalot - 8 Nov 2010 15:04
has this place been taken over by someone new? the atmosphere is very different to my previous visits and i was served by miss piggy with a worse attitude. If she's not manager someone might want to tell her so, if she is then god help the place!!

Located a short distance north of the village centre, this Shepherd Neame pub (operated by Harris Inns) has been remodelled internally to put an emphasis on food. The dining tables are well spaced - giving a pleasantly open feel to the place - and there are a few bar stools and chairs left at the car park end of the bar for those just wanting a drink. Four handpumps, but with doubled-up clips for Spitfire (3.10/pint) and Master Brew the choice is limited although the quality is fine. Large beer garden for the summer months, and also a ptanque pitch. Whilst the decor and furniture are all a bit fancy for a proper pub, this is still a decent place to eat and drink.

Called in here after going to the lambing at Hadlow College and was pleasantly surprised. We arrived just as the food was due to stop being served but the waitress said this was not a problem and made us feel welcome and we got the food we wanted which was good. Typical Shepherd Neame beers and lagers which are not my favourite - are they anybody's?? - but reasonably priced. Recommended.

Good pub food, good beer, excellent staff. They are polite, welcoming, attentive and, most importantly, competent.

There's a very big beer garden out the back with a play area for children.
