Closed as a pub. Reopened as The Old House Coffee Bar and cycle workshop.

Reopened as the Snooty Fox. This pub seems to change its name as often as its landlords, which is quite frequently indeed.
Two real ales (Rebellion IPA and Smuggler). Dogs welcome, but be aware of the pub cats if you've got a cat-intolerant dog. Canned music. Pub very foody (but empty on a Saturday lunchtime). Coffee table books on a lot of the tables.

Shut. For sale, hopefully as a pub, judging by the "hopefully reopening soon" notices in the windows.

I visited the Old House while on a huge dog-walk. I got there at about four o'clock on a Sunday afternoon and there were still people eating, including a vast table of 18 people. Two Rebellion beers were on. I had the IPA which is a favourite of mine (actually I like all their beers). Look out for the vast iron kitchen range (not in use when I visited).

We revisited with some friends for Sunday lunch. Although the landlady is very friendly and clearly very hard working, the impression is that the place desperately needs some part time help. Although the orders were taken reasonable, quickly all courses took an inordinate time to arrive. The main door and all the windows were left open on a fresh autumn day, making the pub pretty chill, whilst encouraging a group of tweedies to let their offspring and dogs treat the place like a private play yard. Its a shame, but my conclusion, The Old House is not the place to take friends for a sociable lunch.

Walking from Marlow to Twyford with two friends, The Old House was conveniently located along our route, coinciding with a break for lunch. Although clearly more of a gastro pub it has been furnished in a thoughtful rustic fashion, so as not to ward off those requiring just a lunch time tipple and a lighter bite. The staff were friendly and welcoming; two local cask ales from the Rebellion brewery were on offer as well as a draught cider. The lunchtime menu offered sandwiches, baguettes or ploughman's, the alternative was something from the A La Carte menu; the only slight disappointment was that a lesser hot meal somewhere between the two was not on offer. Our collective opinion was of an attractive pub offering freshly prepared food of good quality and at a fair price. I look forward to returning to sample their Sunday lunch menu.

THE OLD HOUSE - IS OPEN!!
Since it reopened several months ago under new management, I have visited on a number of occasions and always had a fantastic time. The building is really atmospheric and rustic and food and service amazing! The scallops are to die for and can also highly recomend the duck, the lamb, the steak, the seabass - in fact everything! As it is a free house - the wine list is excellent and great value.
The landlord and his staff are all really attentive. It is only a short drive from Henley and often has really good wine and meal offers.

Have to agree with the last comment. Myself and some friends popped in during January 2011 and had a lovely evening. Good food and good ale. If anything, the landlord was over attentive and very much a perfectionist; his cappuccinos were a work of art. Thanks also for the "birthday cake".
The current 10.00 offer is also very good value for money, I particularly enjoyed the pat but the mussels also looked good.

This is an interesting pub to look at, I like the decor, although it was rather cold inside and smelt a bit like wet dog.

Had the food recommended by a couple of people so decided to give it a try. I was completely disappointed, I thought it might just be that they cant cook for vegetarians but reading other peoples comments that doesn't seem the case. I ordered a wild mushroom and sage risotto, but what I got did not resemble the taste of a risotto at all. More just like all the ingredients bound in weird smelling soured cream, which also had completely no seasoning whatsoever.

I agree that the staff dont really seem to give a toss, I'd put up with that if the food was of a great quality. Go here for a drink but if I were you I wouldn't sit down to eat.

Well its August 2009 and nothing much seems to have changed on the food front. Very poor quality of food, Steaks that are very fatty and tough to even cut. Served with a potato rosti that was burnt and could not be eaten. What decent chef would send out something like that!! A tasteless fish cake served with uncooked vegetables. Its not cheap, the service is very slow and all in all not somewhere I could ever recommend.

A nice laid-back foody pub, that seems to be run by a collective of ladies and a dog called Bandit (best ask the barmaid about his name), that nevertheless does not scrimp on the drinking side.

It offers a couple of good ales (usually has Rebellion) plus a real cider.

The welcome is warm and cheerful and it's easy to settle in for a few pints - it feels a long way from reading here. The ambience and interior is a bit Goa (or Greenham Common circa 1983).

Never tried the food but there's usually a few people in eating it - for a pub this disconnected from public transport and footpaths, that's a good sign.

I would recommend it here - if you can get to it! Access from the A44 isn't up to much. Best to book a taxi from the Bird in hand and back - I'd say it's worthwhile.

Slow service. The food wasn't great - took too long to come, was cold and tasteless. Had expected better but were left very dissapointed.

Nearly 4 hours for a 3 course meal. Wooden Chairs are uncomfortable for older people. poor

Beware the pub dog running loose around the open carpark.. pub owners don't seem bothered.

Had a disastrous meal here at the weekend. Previously been a couple of times and impressed, hence the reason for choosing it for a birthday celebration. However, the service was amazingly slow (3 hours for 2 courses and only with lots of complaining) and by the end of the evening everybody in the restaurant was gettingly increasingly annoyed. When the food eventually came the steak was stone cold - on complaining it was returned 3 minutes after a blast in the microwave. The staff could not care less and acted surprised that we were complaining our starters hadn't arrived after 90 minutes!

Definately won't be going back - it's a shame because places like this rely on a good reputation. My advice - choose somewhere else!

This is a lovely pub in the middle of Warren Row not far off the A4 at Knowll Hill.

Great food and great beer, especially the Hullabalo from Lodden's. Lovely wine list as well.

Highly recommended.

Friendly welcoming staff.

BTW Great roasts on a Sunday!!
