I'd have to agree with Dexie there - unless things have changed?

This is quite possibly the worst place I have ever been in and will never return after the way I was treated by one of the most repulsive doormen I have ever had the misfortune of encountering.

I suffer from MS and fatigue is a major problem and you tend to fall asleep in 'inconvenient' places. So I was resting my head on BF's shoulder and fell asleep. yes I had been drinking, actually one of their very expensive/overpriced bottle of bollinger. I was then awoken by this very large intimidating doorman telling me to 'get the F@@K out as this ain't a F@@king hotel'. Calmly I apologised and explained that I had MS and this is part of the disability and we were waiting for a booked taxi. his reply was 'I don't give a F@@k, get the F@@k out' so I then started to speak the same language as him as he obviously did not understand civilised conversation, but this is frowned upon (i'll admit i should not have lowered myself to his level and should not have stuck up for myself in the slightest). This terribly ignorant gentleman could not be reasoned with and refused to let my BF speak with the manager when asked, in view of this he asked the doorman to apologise to me as i was very upset by this and was told to 'F@@k off'.

If you wish to be offended yelled at and possibly even assaulted the this is the place for you.......

BestBeerBoffin - 16 Aug 2009 14:39
I agree with Julianfabio, the man clearly f***ing loves chicks
Hazz - 4 Jul 2009 15:42
best late bar in town, great drinks deals, and the top floor bar is a great place to actually talk to someone on a saturday night!
DrMilo - 24 Jun 2009 17:19
Only club in town worth going to.

Excellent mixture of people.

Modern and trendy at the same time.

A few beers worth having on offer.
best_pub_in_city - 21 Jun 2009 19:45
Quite possibly the best venue in town, they have started charging 3 after 11, This has rapidly decreased the queing time and is well worth it,

Its now my regular place to go especially on the weekends, and i dont know why people are complaining that there letting "sexy Girls" in! it makes for a very grown up atmophere and the first floor provides excellent music.

Overall a very trendy sexy venue.

julianfabio - 15 May 2009 21:43
The last comment sums this place up.Oiks place so it fills a gap as someone has already said.
And because someone drinks real ale does not make them an "old fart" so please grow up. And fasssssssssst
ThePilgrim - 19 Apr 2009 15:00
i agree with kegger - not your real name - or all of you ale boffins. old farts this is a great place get a life, live fast, die young .
jamescrondall - 6 Apr 2009 23:19
I didn't realise this place was here till this week, mahoosive queue as we came down from the King's on Saturday which was an arse.
loved the place and the crowd.
Although the dj upstairs should have been taking lessons from the two guys playing in that downstairs bar.

Seriously how many moaning oldies on this site? if you like old pubs happy days. don't knock something just because its not for you.

9/10 for me - 1 for the queue.
kegger22 - 6 Apr 2009 19:43
after reading all your comments, i have to agree with 'bestbeerbofin'

i have worked at the legion sice it opened, and we do only let in certain types of people in....it's called beening selective,

and the reason we might charge a little more on your'pint of beer' is we are free to get in...unlike the other places that are open to 3am,
maybe some of the comments on here are biased, both for and against the legion, but to some this place is one of the best late venue's in guildford and will continue to grow and grow.

thanks you for all your comments and hope the 'hater's' find there special late venue in guildford. the drink/dusk awaits....

anonymous - 10 Feb 2009 19:36
I agree with Gtowngal, this is a bad, bad venue. By the way your doing yourself a favour by not coming here. Especially in terms of beer money. I think they just want a certain type of people in here... Sexy girls so the people in charge can watch.. Terrible really.
BestBeerBoffin - 19 Sep 2008 10:13
Not a great place fills a slot i`d say (just).
flyingnun - 7 Sep 2008 16:51
Was in there about 6 months ago. Wasn't really worth a review or a rating until I read the fakes below.

Bland, vanilla, beige. All the heart and soul of Terminal 3. To quote the Hitchhiker's Guide. "Mostly Harmless".
Zaphod - 16 Jul 2008 10:35
Last 4 reviews not kosher me thinks, dont belive me click on their names and see where else they have been !!!!
Beersupper - 13 Jul 2008 20:35
What a refreshing place!
The decor is great and the vibe fantastic.
If you've not experienced it yet, get yourselves down there and enjoy good music in a beautiful enviroment.
With three floors to choose from, there is something for everyone.
If you want something different to the norm, it's the perfect night out.
See you at the bar!

partyhard - 8 Jul 2008 11:29
This place is fantastic. Great decor, top music, friendly staff. Go there and see for yourself.
sparrowlegs - 8 Jul 2008 09:39
What a mixed bag of reviews! If you are into your ales and looking for a cheap pint, like sitting next to saddo's that smell then you have come to the wrong place.

The legion is a bubbly lively sophisticated venue with great friendly staff who attract good customers where i feel safe. The music is spot on and as for the decor it is fantastic.

Bit odd that the sensible pub revier didn't see what lots of others do. Dont need to say much about the beersupper, saw him with his carrier bags at the bus station!

If you want a great night out go and see for yourself, you will enjoy it, like i did. A 10/10 from me!
celticgenius - 7 Jul 2008 23:41
what are you saying pubman, its great here? Surely there is something for everyone, and lets face it we don't shop around for cheap beer otherwise we would be taking our chances at the weavers or staying home with a 6pack of Kaltenburg supreme and a pickled egg?
I love the loungy downstairs bar, they even had some live music acts last monday night.
DrMilo - 7 Jul 2008 23:12
Not sure its a bar or a nightclub. Not worth paying 3.50 for a San Miguel, surely?
TheSurreyPubMan - 5 Jul 2008 05:54
Hate the place! No ale, snobby people on the door. Sucks! 1/10 for being there.
TheSensiblePubReviewer - 27 Jun 2008 23:02
One pub one comment always makes me think stitch up.
Beersupper - 29 May 2008 11:24
I went to the Legion when it first opened & I didn't like it - Sorry. But after going to a friends party last weeek, I love it. Lots of big sofas in the bar downstairs with a good atmosphere, I gave the middle floor a miss as it was a bit hectick but spent the rest of the night in your new bar on the second floor where the party was.. a really hip late night hangout. well done on turning this around, we will be back as this is possibly turning into the best bar in Guildford. x Gabby
gabbyj - 20 Apr 2008 19:18
The Perfect night out, A mix of chill out areas with funky and buzzing atmosphere, Great Dj's and now free to get in all the time!!
julianfabio - 16 Mar 2008 13:09
Sorry but i don`t see this place lasting as it is now.Its some thing and nothing does not do a thing lunch time or afternoons and very patchy in the evenings.

Beersupper - 25 Dec 2007 21:26
The Guildford Friday night H-File search broadens! I came to Legion around 10.30ish (17 Aug) with a friend who was keen to see a certain woman in here. No problems with the bouncers on the door regarding photo ID for entry. We headed to the middle floor (pictured in pub details) where we found the female in question with a friend in one of the cosy booths. I was driving and my mate brought me a soft drink, so I am uncertain of the drink prices in here.

My first impressions of Legion is that it is simply the club version of nearby Five and Lime, which confirms Callum251's comment of this being Five and Lime's "sister pub". So basically if you like Five and Lime, you'll like this place. Not quite sure on the pricing policy though? It was 5 entry after 10pm when the Friday night clubbing crowd appear to flock to Time considering it is free entry there before Midnight.

The music playing in the background on this aesthetically looking floor was old school funky house with the clubby bit and main dance floor on the much darker ground floor. There was a private party on the top floor where the pool tables are. Despite eventually being with a group of women, the place did appear to be full of (older) blokes, which from my point of view was not encouraging for the H-File search. I felt the dance floor on the ground floor was a bit on the small side, though you could go up a few stairs onto the stage and also dance there.

Overall, Legion is a sound alternative to Harpers, Time or even Flares for a late drink and well worth a visit especially when the likes of Time/Harpers for instance presumably stop their summer policy of allowing free entry before Midnight.

Searching_for_H_Files - 20 Aug 2007 11:51
a bit quiet in the daytime but I like this bar - the lunchtime fair is quiet basic with just a hot sandwich menu - but when they arrived we were pleasently surprised. great value - nice staff.
ciderbob - 16 Aug 2007 14:28
Yes Yes & yes again i say - It is a bit of a walk but well worth a visit - & only a fiver to get in. what more can I say - loves it.
chazp - 15 Aug 2007 23:36
I like this place there was a good vibe on the friday we visited. the girls toilets were too hot but other than that it is actually quite good.
kittilips75 - 15 Aug 2007 23:25
Place is ok nothing special i wish them luck.
But i will say how can anyone read Callums comments with out laughing he rates other pubs with rocks or sucks (a man of words )and even rates a pub thats been shut for over 18 months, the standard of staff must be quite poor....
stroller - 11 Aug 2007 17:00
No mr/ms anon I work at the five & Lime but you have got to agree that the chav count is nil & it has a kick ass interior - so forgive me for bigging up our sister pub !!!!!! oh Aleman they keep selling beer & many other drinks until the bar shuts [3AM] cheers.
Callum251 - 20 Jul 2007 23:23

markiestrudie - 2 Jul 2007 18:26
wow - first time in the door and I love it - no chavs great music - fab design - nice work.
Callum251 - 1 Jul 2007 00:03
Have visited this bar/club. On the whole i do quite like it, downstairs appears to be the main club area, while on the middle floor is the bar area and the top floor they have pool tables.

The bottled beers cost more than buying pints so watch out for that, all the prices are listed on the drinks menu. They do stop selling alcohol about 1am though, on a Friday at least.
aleman - 23 Jun 2007 11:59
love the club is there a listings page??
