Perfectly decent pub, good beer and friendly bar staff.

Having been for a walk in the rain we thought we would pop into a traditional pub in West Malling for a drink and some food. The five pointed star popped to mind. We were expecting just good basic pub food.... What we got.... I ordered a sausage and bacon baguette, which arrived as a sausage baguette, when I pointed this out to the kitchen staff/cook/waiter he said ok and duly disappeared - only to return with the same thing saying "I don't know what you want me to do mate, it is written here as a sausage baguette!" I pointed out that I had ordered a sausage and bacon baguette and had been charged 1 extra. Off he went, then the bar lady came and said "Sorry darlin, I fought you ordered a jumbo! Gonna ave to charge ya an extra 80p!" So with the idea of not turning this into an argument about poor service I paid. The baguette turned up with barely one piece of bacon in it, the sausage was cheap and nasty, the bacon poor quality also, my girlfriend had a BLT which she said was greasy. The final straw was the hair in our food - Guess what at this point we left!! - DON'T DO IT - there are loads of places in West Malling that have good food and great staff this is not one of them!

A traditional Greene King town pub - fairly unpretentious, with a reasonably-priced bar menu. Four real ales on - Ruddles, Abbot, Old Speckled Hen and a respectable pint of IPA (and its not often you'll hear me say that) which went very well with my ham, egg and chips. No sign of the problem customers mentioned by some reviewers below.

If you like your pubs full of chavs and pikeys, then this is the place for you. The beer is pretty terrible, mainly because the majority of punters are drinking lager. I wouldn't give the food to my dog!

My wife and I ate here at lunchtime on a recent Bank Holiday. Good food at very reasonable prices. I returned today and had the Cheddar Ploughmans. It was quality. For once, there was a heap of bread and almost too much cheese, salad was nice as was the IPA. Thanks.

Called in here last night for the first time in a few months having visited many times over the past couple of years. Nothing much seems to have changed. Standard boozer, relatively traditional but gets very busy. The beer is nothing to write home about - I had a 2.90 Ruddles County which was below par. It was either that or Green King IPA/Old Speckled Hen. Hurray. Won't be rushing back.

Very busy pub that i goto now and again with a range of beers and ales. You fight your way to the bar then get your drink knocked everywhere when returning to your seat thats if your lucky to find a seat :). Has outdoor seating aswell wots nice in the summer.

Full of undesirables but a good hustle and bustle atmosphere. Usually pretty busy

Best pub in West Malling by some distance. On my latest visit, Old Speckled Hen was available alongside Ruddles County, both were fine. The food menu looks very interesting although i've never really got involved with that. Gets incredibly busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, to the point where you can't even get in the pub, never mind get served!!

Went in here the other night before going to Brands on Sunday and had a great evening. I had good beer, good conversation AND a bloody good smoke !! Just what an English pub should be

This ambience of this beautifully old pub with very low beamed ceilings and real log fires is magical. Serves the usual drinks with a good spread of various taps. It is blessed with staff that are knowledgeable and friendly. The punter is also spoilt with a vast menu with daily specials. Seriously top notch grub for sensible pub prices. Are there any downsides to this pub I hear you cry? - to be honest, it's hard to fault, but can get busy especially on Sundays and when the farmers market is in town, but rest assured, this pub is up there with the very best.
