user reviews of the Three Shires, Stockport

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Three Shires has reverted to a former name - Huffy's. It's now a wine bar/bistro. There are no real ales. Keg options are Brewdog Punk IPA, Peroni, Open Gate Citrus IPA, Guinness, Hop House Lager, Tetley's Smoothflow, Carlsberg, Carlsberg Export & San Miguel. The worst of 16 pubs I tried in the town.

now open!

Just looked through the window, looks like there were quite a few in. Food still served, looked good value.

Now closed, most unfortunate but I did post a warning nearly 12 months ago (see below) and the situation just got worse.
They have blamed the smoking ban, the rent and the credit crunch but that can only be a tiny contribution, the real reason is poor management, lack of commitment, sending the chef home when quiet, closing early when quiet, letting ale quality slip, letting mates run the bar, removing the Belgium beers 6 months ago....and more.
I think the owner simply lacked any skill, he was never present towards the end or when there was any problems and when he was there drank heavily and told everybody it was his place, bit embarrassing.
Anyway great opportunity exists here, when it reopened in 2006 I saw money taken hand-over-fist and always busy at lunchtimes.
I am attempting to find the transfer/lease details, anybody know? I'd be interested in a deal/share especially a knowledgeable real ale fan or micro.

What a shame a current GBG pub shortly to close. The landlord seemed friendlly and apologised but was running the pub down. As no real ale we wished him luck and left. I hope someone else will take on the pub and be able to turn the pubs fortunes around.

This place is desperate for new owners and return quality beers and customers

Had a nice lunch here on Saturday. I got the impression they've recently improved the menu. Also seem to have a nice area at the back of the pub, good for proper evening meals if they are open!
Good quality Hydes beer on offer.

The owners here are fools.
It's a perfect setting with great beer, food, location and customers..so why close at a ridiculous 8 or 9 pm in the evening? You say not enough customers to warrant it! Bullsh
No wonder if you are not bloody open!
Yesterday was at least the fourth occasion when the door was locked at 8:30 - 9pm mid-week with customers (friends) inside, I still make the effort because this place is so good but not any more.
If you guys want to sell then I am interested in buying LS+B or GC and I'll soon show real commitment, hard work and the best place in Stockport bar none..serious.
You don't deserve this place!

Not one for real ale pub purists as doesn't feel like a pub, due to 'modern' decoration.

A decent pint though, and one to visit

A decent, characterful town centre pub - with well-kept ales.

Great pub - modern but cosy, unfortunately beer wasn't pulled thru' first thing in the morning and local mild therefore very sour
