I'm a tourist and I LOVED this pub. My husband and I popped in last week when we were staying at the Luttrell for a few days and within a few minutes the parrot (called Nelson I gather) was swearing and someone was attempting to play a digderidoo. It's a "proper" pub and I'd hazard a guess the thatched bar is fairly unique too.
I don't travel from London to the country to visit gastropubs, I go to find pubs like the Foresters, and long may it last!
We had a good banter with the landlord and chat with the locals (most of whom turned out to not be locals originally) and I thought it was very friendly. Nice wood burner on the go and it's dog friendly too.

This is probably the locals bar in Dunster hidden away at the far end of the town.
To be honest we did'nt feel all that comfortable in here in all our walking gear so headed into the tourist area where we belong!

A really friendly pub. Decor is nothing to speak of (and neither is the food sadly) but the staff are great, the pints well kept and the locals great fun. The sort of place where you'd be very happy to get a lock in and spend the night listening to the juke box, playing pool with the locals and stroking the parrot that resides there. Great stuff, we had a lot of fun.

We called here twice on our weeks holiday at Minehead. It is a bit of a jumble decor and furniture wise, but none of that matters. This pub is why people go to pubs - the interaction between human beings, accompanied by good ale and some potent local cider!! Visitors are made very welcome and, if willing to be drawn in, can be immediately absorbed into conversations with total strangers. True stories, tall stories - whatever - this place is a delight!!
Be warned though - ensure you know the 'bus times and your route home. You might never get away!!
Also, another feature is a parrot in a cage who offers accurate descriptions of politicians, bosses or whoever is getting you down at the moment!! Brilliant!

A really friendly atmosphere.
The landlord, Pat, and the locals made me and the wife welcome at all times.
The beer was good too, tried the Copper Ale and also the Sun Raker!

OK sort of place - beers kept OK and friendly enough welcome, but not the best place to drink in the area. Presumably YoYo came here to toast the future of his best friend and Mrs YoYo?

It helps to be a WURZLES fan (or at least know they exist), but even if you don't the locals will make you welcome. Easily one of the best pubs in Dunster.
