please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I was expecting to find this corner pub closed. But, apparently it re-opened last April. The interior is quite cramped. But it has a little character and also manages to fit in a dartboard in one corner and a DJ booth at the far end. There weren't many people in. But, it can get seemingly difficult to move when busier. The only real ale is Doom Bar.

Ah, Randolf, my dear old multi-login punchbag, at least I've been to the pub.

You?

It still looks as rough as it did when paul commented too, but you wouldn't know, would you?

One - why question a post made over 6 years ago?!

For what, exactly, were you hoping, paul154?

Tyson versus Ali?

7.50 for a pint of prawns?
I'm in the wrong game.
I wonder if the, ahem, 'louder than life locals' who congregate outside this particular hostelry ever partake?

Hi,

Had a nice beer in there.

They just began to serve food in here since December last year but with a shorter menu.
Loved their cold seafood platter but this is no more on the menu. Instead you can have a pint of shell on prawn with a loaf of brown bread and some butter for 7.50.

Plus points were a good pint of Tetley's Mild (haven't had that for years) and friendly bar staff. Negatives were some objectionable people at the bar. One started taking the piss out of one of my friends for no reason at all - luckily he's a bit deaf so he didn't really hear it. There was also a brief and rather silly bout of fisticuffs between a couple of the regulars. No worse than you'd get in other pubs on a Saturday night, but I was hoping for better than that.

A small L-shaped pub. Popped in a couple of weeks ago. Not very busy just a couple of locals in attendance, the girl behind the bar was friendly.
I was surprised to read of the bad experience with fish and chips in a previous review as I've eaten here several times in the past and always had a good meal.
A Doombar and a Bombardier were consumed, nothing special but nothing terrible either.

Popped in for lunch as we were running out of time to go where we originally wanted to, but thought we'd give it a go. We received a very warm and friendly welcome, so decided to stay. I had a pint of Bombardier, which was as cloudy as an overcast February morning and didn't taste any better. Still, food was ordered so thought we'd better stay for it. I had 'Fresh' cod and chips with mushy peas, although the freshness was very negotiable, tasted ok but the batter was bloody awful - chewy, thick and leathery. It's a shame because from the outside it seemed like a good choice. Maybe just an off-day, but I can't recommend it on the strength of this visit. I might add an extra point for having the balls to play Metallica during a mid-week lunchtime though.

I last visited this pub on the 100th anniversary of the relief of Mafekin. I have not been back since.

A local pub for local people.

Maybe I missed something given the extensive positive reviews below.

Nothing particularly charming or impressive and I was quite terrified at the prospect that they sold oysters.

But I could be wrong.... maybe I missed some gold somewhere.

We thought we would give this little pub a go last Weds night...tried the door but was bolted !! The landlord opened the door, muttering he was just getting his supper. Absolutely no-one in there at all. I know it's January and all that but bleedin 'ell where are the regulars ?? He just said it's an awful time for the pub trade. Saying that, the ale on offer was Pride and Rockin' Rudolph and they were both good. Could here a pin drop tho, so moved swiftly onto the Ship.
Probably better to visit at the weekend I suspect !

Great traditional local with a family atmosphere. Two or three cask beers beautifully kept. Should be main aim in Whitstable after some disappointments

Nice pub with very good and reasonable priced food.
I always have the seafood platter in there, its very nice .
Yesterday they didn't had any so I had mussels instead.
Very small mussels but very tasty with my pint of London pride.
Its recommened for food.

Visited this weekend as part of our annual Whitstable crawl. The decor seems to have slightly changed but it is still remains a quite charming and welcoming pub. The Greene King IPA and Pride are still supplemented by a good quality guest beer which is a big plus in a town where Shepherd Neame generally rules the roost. Sadly the beer garden appears to have been stripped of its floral displays (hopefully a temporary thing) and is currently not much more than a bare patio for the smokers although you can now access it form the pub. I dare say we'll be back again next year!

The first impressions of this small locals pub in the heart of town are that it is very ordinary however to a certain degree, it is this no nonsense unpretentious approach that makes the Albert quite appealing. The L shaped interior seems a bit dated and even a little tacky with its modern brick fireplace and ships wheel mirror but pubs like this are becoming a bit of an endangered species. At least they didnt stick to the temporary 1980s trendy name change to Alberres. That would be definitely be way too much. The beers are fairly decent with a guest beer supplementing the Green King IPA and London Pride. Despite the lack of room, they have managed to squeeze in a dartboard and the rear of the pub has at some time been extended into the building next door to give the place a bit of breathing space. The best feature is perhaps the small beer garden although this is not accessible through the pub, you have to go outside and round the back where a few table and chairs sit among the potted plants. Be warned - it can be quite a sun trap here. The Albert is a pub that is easy to bypass in favour of more visually appealing pubs but we have never had anything other than a good time here and are always made to feel welcome.
