Average food, expensive beer. Always seemed busy, though,so they must be doing something right...

A lovely looking place both inside and out just off the tourist trail of Torbay.
Cosy inside with a maze of different seating areas, also a suntrap garden and benches out the front.
Now the bad points. Our sunday roast was ok but the meat tasted cheap and nasty, also the staff just could not cope with a busy Sunday lunch, more staff need behind the bar.

6/10

Remember the days when pints were a penny or two more expensive depending on which pub you went too?
Well this pub has Guinness at a whopping 45p more expensive than a harbour side pub in Brixham. Totally overpriced and simply not worth it.

Nice enough pub but when i was in i was kept waiting by unfriendly staff who then continued to serve locals who had come in after me. I pulled the guy up behind the bar who just stood there looking stupid and mumbling something about he hadnt seen me even though at one point there was only me at the bar waiting to be served as he continued talking to the barmaid, i gave them a piece of my mind and walked out. Im going to be in Brixham again soon might just pop in and see if its changed any.

A nice pub with a good cellar and nice surroundings. The real ale (Dartmoor) came out in very good condition. However, the afternoon visit was let down by the unfriendlyness of the young person behind the bar, no personality and no interest in any other customer than his couple of friends. We seemed to be an unwanted customer. What a shame that the owners do not ensure their staff are customer friendly.

Amazing bulding, very gothic. Just felt a tad uncomfortable as it was very quiet despite the time of night and we were going to eat, but the staff didn't seem to want to offer a bar menu but push us into the restaurant. Given it wasn't cheap and had no customers we decided against. Nice ale and garden though. Shame it is so far tou of the way as if you want a drink then taxis are hiddeously expensive.

Excellent pub. I had a pint of Dartmoor and it was just lovely, one of the finest pints and in lovely surroundings.
Had a meal on the Monday Steak and Guiness pie and that too was tasty and filling.
Compliments to everyone involved in this smashing pub.

Was taken here a couple of weeks ago for a meal with my family. What a great 'proper' pub. All the halmarks of a traditional village pub (friendly staff and locals, log fire, fresh food from local suppliers and good, well kept beer...) without the oppressive gloom that some places confuse with atmosphere.
I'll definately be back there whenever I'm in Devon.
