user reviews of the Headingley Taps, Headingley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Taps was recommended over the Skyrack by my daughter who was a student at Leeds Met, on the basis that there are more old men here (i.e. gents of my age). They served a decent pint of Leeds IPA at a competitive price. The music was deafening when we arrived, but to their credit the bar staff turned it down on request and without scowling either. If it's raining at the cricket you could do worse than go here, but the member's bar at Headingley is much better and it does serve a good pint of Black Sheep.

Wanted to order a Sunday dinner with drink, but they will not include any cask ale in the offer, despite cask Tetley being cheaper than most of the other drinks which are included. The menu doesn't say it is limited to Smooth, but the barstaff, who were slow aswell, insist it does. Tetley is cheap but better at the supporters club at the Stadium.

Called in before the abandoned ODI so it was obviously a bit stretched. The service was fine and the Tetleys drinkable. Good atmosphere before the game.

Along with Arcadia, the Taps provides an oasis of cask ale in the desert of Headingley.
Its a student pub so it gets packed during term time with kids in fancy dress. Great cheap food.
Nobody stops you drinking outside but they dont shout about any outdoor area either so at least the car park is just a car park

Ok if a nice day as you can sit ouside and avoid the crush inside, otherwise avoid.

Empty and soulless by day, stupidly busy by night (not helped by the bar being right next to the entrance). Avoid.

does good late night stuff when its a bank holiday! kareoke night is amazing! does get rammed and the position of the bar does nothing to help this. not too expensive and has an outdoor bit if you dont mind getting run over! its always on my otley run! but probs shouldnt eat here if youre wise!

A plastic pub, serving plastic food mainly catering for the ever increasing student population.

Beer acceptable

I used to work here when I was a student in Leeds, so it's probably the same dragon of a landlady. Saying that it's a good pub serevs good beer and looks the part!

Revamped as a trendy student bar, usually very busy! Lots of young students behind the bar usually being shouted at by a dragon of a landlady! Line cleaning would be an idea as well as some heating!
Stick to bottles!

a great pub especially for the typical student. Nice surroundings ina good area. cheap drinks with a good pub atmosphere,. Overall a nice place to go for a friendly drink, not too posh, stylish and expensive but a friendly local pub that always has it's doors open.

Whatever happened to this pub? A (disputed) member of the Otley Run, the building was originally the local water pumping station, hence the interesting architecture of the building.

However, where you used to find a good, well kept pub interior, you now find spotlights, white walls, expensive beer and fewer chairs to cram in more punters. It is a classic example of the worst kind of pub conversion. Gone are the wonderful Sunday lunches. Gone are the interesting decor features. Gone is the lovely handpull. And, when I was last there, gone were most of the drinkers. Anyone with any sense and wanting to drink in a bright bar would choose the far superior 'Arc', just across the road. And that's what makes this conversion so sad - it was utterly pointless.

Avoid it like the plague, or at least until someone buys it and creates a quality venue out of it again.
