i held my birthday party in this pub and can give it 10/10. the staff david and Aoife were great, very friendly and always on the ball.the pub itself is spotless and the ladies were exceptional. the food I ordered was delicious, just little bites from the menu but were lovely. had a great night, maybe the music at night time is a little loud, ither than that I would definetly give this pub top marks and would go back again.

Richard ReadingFC, your comment was not removed. BITE have two pages for the same pub, quite why goodness knows.

Finally tried the food in here on Monday ,after admiring it for months.
I went for the Fish and Chips( a favourite of mine)
Superb, just like it use to be in most if not all Chip Shops(though not these days).Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Going to work my way through the menu now.........The full Breakfast ,you are on my list! Then the steak and ale pie ,i reckon.
tottenhamsean - 30 Jul 2014 10:49
My previous comment was removed for no good reason! I think this a good local pub and enjoyed my visit although there were one or two regulars who perhaps had more than one too many drinks. Below poster Sean not withstanding.
Richard_ReadingFC - 7 Jul 2014 12:53
Judging by my typos in the below comment,it looks like i have just left the springfield!
tottenhamsean - 24 Mar 2014 16:12
Love this pub.It has been totally refurbed nad is now clean and smart with Toilets that are actualy within the health guide lines :)
Whilst it is attracting a whole new range of people(you actually get girls in here now!!!)
The old loacls are still here and enjoying the "new" pub
I did have a few doubts when it reopened, but have none now.The barstaff are all bot h friendly and professional.haven't eaten in here but the food looks good,it has to be said
A great pub for all ...But still a local pub
tottenhamsean - 24 Mar 2014 16:05
Well I've been in here a few times recently and its been totally refurbished and did it need it. New toilets are downstairs in part of the old cellar an extension has been built on the back including disabled toilets and its finished to a very high standard of decoration & restoration 100% better than before and its not been wreaked by the gastro brigade. Its serves good food & has three real Ales on tap was well also still has plenty of screens for showing sport things are look good lets hope they do well as they have certainly spent some wedge doing it up.
Alesonly - 22 Mar 2014 13:28
Well whaddya know?

Looks like the refurbishment budget stretched to a laptop too.
EnfieldTaaaanBlud - 25 Nov 2013 15:33
This pub could NOT be further away from the dive understand it used to be -- even the facade is new -- classy and cool black satin (change the photo folks!) with VERY stylish black, red and cream decor inside: Outstanding!… that's before you even get to the bar or sit down....
Live music and a late license on Saturdays till 12.30 am providing the very best of Greater London talent -- 23 Nov presented the illustrious Tim Hain with Jamsdie Up who had the place rockin!! Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, excellent food, very friendly and helpful staff… I'm out of adjectives. The Irish landlord, John is determined to make it the best local watering hole and musical venue around. I cannot see it becoming anything else!!!
Karonia51 - 24 Nov 2013 14:28
Well past today and noticed its closed and in the process of being totally refurbished and did it need it. The temporary wall at back I thought was permanent has now gone and things are looking good. Lets see what its like when its finished. I will update later.
Alesonly - 24 Sep 2013 22:39
I've been drinking in this Pub regularly since 1975 over the years its changed from having a central bar and being a real good Pub to now just being about a quarter of its size and being right run down. Only one small front part of the pub remains what used to be the front bar. It now just don't have the same atmosphere it had before it now feels very threatening and a lot of the old trouble makers which were banned have creped back in. Its as though its being deliberately run down for closure. Toilets are now downstairs in what was part of the original cellar totally inaccessible to disabled but the rest of the pub has now been bulldozed and is now flats even the upstairs rooms and back part so It would not surprise me if the rest follows very soon. Do not think I will be back until it improves if it ever does before closing.
Alesonly - 25 Aug 2013 12:39
First glance suggests mainly lagers/Guinness, but good Youngs Bitter and Courage Best were available and priced very reasonably.

Gents' OK, new fittings and soap dispensers and driers working.

Building looks a bit tatty because of what looked like small building works. Keeping the plasma screen to reasonable volume levels except weekends and maybe adding another cask would help, not aware of any close alternatives, seems worthy of support, expecting further improvement once the cosmetics are done.

_grobag_ - 18 Aug 2013 17:31
I've been a long term patron of this pub, and hung on in there when it was halved in size and turned into a building site.

Sadly, after a visit today I must say I fear the worst. The new subterranean toilets are obviously a work in progress but to have one trap out of order and the other infested by rat-faced charvers snorting class A's off the stainless steel toilet roll housing it doesn't look too promising. This was at 7pm! top class!

There's no longer any compelling reason to use this place. Sorry to say.
Chivers - 17 Aug 2013 22:05
If the quality of the new toilets is anything to go bay the refurb will be a good un.Well impressed
tottenhamsean - 29 Jul 2013 09:45
My local, and i love it.But..............
I know a refurb is going on and things are not going to be the quite right for a while. But is this an excuse to have one person behind the ramp on a Friday evening? .The Guinness went, and the por love didnt know how to change it ,so we were waiting nigh on half an hour to get a pint.Coupled with the toilets being as described by "Ales only" a lot of the old regulars seem to be giving this place a swerve. Its a shame and something i only hope is temporary.
I do feel the owners could have done a better better with the toilets situation(again, i agree with ales only).I also notice a lot of the undesirables that the last manger did well to rid the pub of are creeping back.Oh well.
Lets hope it returns to being the best local for miles.Time will tell
tottenhamsean - 1 Jun 2013 14:14
Been drinking in this boozer years but it seems to have lost half the pub at present only the small front part remains with no proper toilets just one little cubical its not good in a busy pub full of beer drinkers have to queue for a slash they need a couple of portaloos outside. I do hope this is only temporary as they appear to be turning the rest into flats.

I am not a fan of kareoke in the slightest, but was pleasently surprised with one of the singers i saw here last Saturday(6th Oct).
Why this fella(Elvis O'Toole i think his name is) hasn't been signed up is a mystery that only God can answer.I have never seen such raw vocal talent in all my gig going days.He stunned the crowd into silence with his own unique versions of a variety of all time classics. It is wildly accepted thyat rock legends UFO are the biggest name musically ever to come out of Bounds Green, but i feel in Elvis O'toole we have someone who will make them seem small fry by comaparison.
Simon Cowell get your finger out!!!!!!!!
tottenhamsean - 14 Oct 2012 10:01
Was in here last Sunday. It reminded me of what i love about the place.
A large crowd, enjoying a pleasant relaxed Sunday lunch time Drink, and most being on first name terms with each other. Not cliquey, just friendly.
Oh and we saw the Governor dancing to Lady ga ga,worthwhile afternoon out for that alone :)
tottenhamsean - 26 Nov 2011 13:57
nearset pub to my new house, and turns out the best, great atmosphere, landlord a good guy, reasonably priced booze, and my missus likes it too. gem of a place

Just Too address a previous comment by ccfc 10
The Only time there is Loud unavoidable noise is on a Saturday night's when the karaoke is on it gets loads of non drinkers screeching there Lungs off on the karaoke then and Ive never seen them told too buy a drink if you avoid it then like most regular drinkers do its a good old boozer a bit run down but its ok.

I often use this Pub during the week and have done for well over 30 Years but I would not use at weekends when the Karaoke is on as I don't like that racket and I'm a bit too Old for Karaoke. Other times its a nice old fashioned Pub that showing all sports like Football Horse Racing Darts Etc. The grubs also very good but cheap like Pie & chips around 3 cant be bad. Also Beer prices are as cheap or cheaper then any other Pub locally. Theres a Pool Table & Dart Board as well as plenty of TV Screens too watch the Footy. All in all its a good boozer like anything else you go in when you like whats on if you don't like it you go elsewhere why complain.
Alesonly - 10 Apr 2011 11:41
"Add to this a cold pub, terrible blaring music and overpriced beer (for the area), and you have a thoroughly miserable experience. AVOID!"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Beer overpriced??? I looked back on a review I did of the Ranelagh in 2007 and the Guinness was more expensive then (3.30 per pint!) than the Springfield is now. Not having been in the Ranelagh for a few years I can't comment on what they charge but I bet it's not cheap and I very much doubt it's as cheap as the SPT.

As far as the issue about requesting that people buy drink - fair enough. I wouldn't dream of going into a pub to watch football without having a few drinks and resent seeing cheeky sods taking up table space without having the decency to purchase a drink. It is a business after all.

Maybe I'm old fashioned in that respect.

It still does what it says on the tin. A good honest boozer. Treat people well and you'll be treated well.
mr_goatboy - 20 Mar 2011 20:19
Mmmm, very suspect 'ccfc10' you join this site the same day you criticise this pub and haven't posted about any other pub.I have seen this happen on BITE before, you have either been barred and have an axe to grind or you run or work at a nearby rival pub and are running down a competitor.Either way you are one sad individual.Nothing that you say about this pub rings true
boundsgreenboy - 10 Mar 2011 16:00
Over priced beer for the area?
have you been to the the one up the road? :)
As for the landlord ordering people to buy more drinks, was this during a football match? If so, that could explain it.There appears to be a view (amongst some )these days, that you can walk into a pub and watch a game without spending a penny.
Your discription certainly doesnt match my experiences of the pub.
tottenhamsean - 9 Mar 2011 09:21
Not a pleasant place to enjoy a quiet drink... my main complaint is the staff, who give off a disctinctly mocking air to anyone who isn't in their clique of local regulars. Worse still, the landlord is an absolute tyrant, at one point ordering customers to buy more drinks and following a few guys who went outside for a casual fag to dictate where they could and couldn't stand on the public pavement!

Add to this a cold pub, terrible blaring music and overpriced beer (for the area), and you have a thoroughly miserable experience. AVOID!
ccfc10 - 22 Feb 2011 00:57
Sadly this Pub seems too be going though a bad patch at present its getting rather run down and the (Owners NOT the people running it) are just letting it fall apart and are not doing any repairs at all. All it needs is a good clean & a lick of Paint inside apart from that its a good old style Pub with the usual locals. There was Courage Best & another Ale on tap as well as the usual lagers on Tap when I was in.
half_tuppence - 12 Oct 2010 10:44
Oh and the Guinness has gone DOWN to 2.80
tottenhamsean - 1 Dec 2009 14:41
Monday they have bacon, potatoe and cabbage for 2.50,quality grub for a very good price :)
I love this pub.Decent Guinness, decent Locals and the barstaff know their Onions.
tottenhamsean - 1 Dec 2009 14:40
Cheap and cheerful, quick and friendly barstaff (and manager), nice garden and wendy house out the back for summer fun.
steph99 - 26 Nov 2008 17:37
After reading the comments on here I went to the Springfield with high expectations and I wasnt disappointed as I found it to be a great boozer with friendly locals and bar staff. A shed load of lager is available along with Pride, Courage Best, Tetleys Smoothflow and Guinness. I thought that the Pride was very good.

There is a small TV screen and larger plasma, but last week there was a sign in the door window saying that the Arsenal v Spurs game would not be aired due to no Sky Sports in the pub (surely not). There is also a pool table on a raised area at the front of the pub.

This is a decent boozer and a future stop off on my way home when alighting at Bounds Green after a few beers in town.
Strongers - 4 Nov 2008 11:26
What alesonly said
The scottish barman is like barstaff use to be, has a bit of banter with the locals and remembers what you are drinking. And by wearing A sSt Mirren shirt proves he has a sense of humour as well :)
The other barstaff are good as well, as is the landlord
Definatly one of my favourite pubs in the Wood green/Bounds green area these days
tottenhamsean - 14 Oct 2008 15:36
As I said before I still use this Pub regularly and have been doing so since 1975 I still find it as good now as it ever was. What i like is Its still a proper working mens Pub. OK its Not Posh or tarted up I admit but its what a Pub should be in my opinion. It serves a good Pint of Guinness & even better now seems to have London Pride & Courage Best Ales on as well. Theres always a good crowd of regulars in to talk to and have a laugh with and the staff are always very good & friendly so I would agree with others try it you may enjoy a proper Pub not a plastic manufactured one like so many other Pubs are these days.
Alesonly - 11 Oct 2008 11:02
Was in here again last night, superb pint of Guinness and effecient friendly barmaid
All good.
tottenhamsean - 15 Sep 2008 19:19
Was in here last Friday. Had a perfectly pleasant few Pints with friends. A good local Boozer, with friendly ,decent Barstaff who are good at their Job.
tottenhamsean - 17 May 2008 16:54
Good frendly if basic boozer.Does what it says on the tin.Looked better in the 90's when the bar was in the centre of the pub mind.
boundsgreenboy - 27 Apr 2008 00:08
A good old fashioned unpretentious boozer. Hasn't been decorated in 35 years, but who cares.
Half decent smoking area too.
London28 - 29 Jan 2008 21:55
Nice Old fashion styles Pub with good Old fashion customer service all the staff & other customers seem pleasant and polite. At least its Not full of self centred wanabes/show-offs and fake designer wearing customers posing at the bar all night. Good Pub for Real drinkers in my opinion.
half_tuppence - 27 Jan 2008 12:18

Decided i'd lower myself and drink with the "underclass" on Saturday lunch time(that comment still annoys and amuses me at the same time)
We were on our way to a gig north of Brum, and were early for the meet.
Guinness was superb(as always) and the strongbow was "well nice" or so my companion told me.
She even commented on the pub" Not a bad boozer this"
So people ,dont be put off by the negative remarks ,give the pub go.
tottenhamsean - 24 Jan 2008 15:50
Kierah
Dont be so snobbish. The springfield is an ok pub, with locals that actually talk to each other(weird eh?)
Whilst i live dangerously close to the boozer, i dont actually use it that much, but when i do its always been ok with punters that are friendly

A bit like the Ranelagh use to be
tottenhamsean - 15 Dec 2007 16:54
if you like enjoying your pint with underclass then this is one place to try
keirah - 26 Nov 2007 14:03
Either that or he/she is in charge of the Ranelagh ;)
tottenhamsean - 31 Oct 2007 12:00
hmmm...

I wonder if anonymous has ever actually been into the Springfield. Doesn't sound like it.
mr_goatboy - 1 Oct 2007 20:44
I Must say Ive been drinking in this pub for over thirty years on & off since the days when I lived in Wittington Road opposite and I used to Drink Double Diamond here. In those days the bar was in the middle of the Pub. I must say have never seen any serious trouble in this Pub the odd argument but thats all but you get that in whatever Pub you go in where People drink plenty that happens thats life. This Pub is and always has been a good workingman's Pub Its not ponced up like other Pubs around here but its a good old style Pub thats what I like about it full of proper drinkers drinking plenty of beer. At least its not full of half pint Merchants and Shandy drinkers full of pretence like a lot of Pubs these days.
Alesonly - 30 Sep 2007 11:13
Dirty, rough and violent! If you want a hair in your beer or sit next to a drunk then this is your place. If you want a relaxing pint, pay the extra 20 pence and get down the Ranelagh.
anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 12:02
Nice good old style Pub its what a Pub should be. Its not full of foodies half pint merchants or poser's like a lot of Pubs around here Pity there's no Real-Ale on tap but Guinness Is good.
Alesonly - 9 Sep 2007 10:28
Agree with Goatboy - a good, proper local, especially compared to the awful middle-class pretentions of The Ranelagh up the road.

There's a good, regulars atmosphere, many of whom are Irish (hence the half-decent Guinness and regular screening of hurling and Gaelic football). But this ISN'T a theme pub in any way.

It's spacious, so if you're watching the football, you should be able to see. They've even installed a TV in the beer garden for die-hard smokers.
ChapmanBaxter - 1 Aug 2007 12:32
An honest decent local boozer. No airs or graces like the increasingly shambolic and pretentious Ranelagh up the road.

Good for watching football without hassle. I'd prefer a Real Ale on tap, but the Guinness is usually very good. Haven't tried the food, but it looks fine.

All in all a very solid and honest local.
mr_goatboy - 5 Mar 2007 13:00
Not a bad local, fairly busy.Very good pint of Guinness.Food use to be ok, but have recently gone "Thai" Normally the reason this is done is so the pub can get cheap labour.havn't eaten the food of late,so wont comment.
manager and bar staff, friendly and good at their jobs!Good to watch football in
Not a bad pub
