user reviews of the Golden Lion, Putney Bridge

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The oldest and most historic pub in Fulham with, according to rumour, a tunnel leading to the Bishops' Palace. I believe this to be untrue. My review from nearly 12 years ago says "Very much a locals' pub, unchanged for several decades, whether this is good or bad depends on your viewpoint. Fullers Pride £2 a pint." I don't know about the Pride but I suspect if there was any it would be a lot dearer than that. Unfortunately there did not seem to be any and it looked like some of the locals have been propping up the bar since the days the tunnel was dug. Assuming it existed which I don't think it does.

truly awful pub, used to go here and it was fine, fairly nice crowd and good beer but it has turned into a place to avoid
was there last night and my friend ordered a carling and epa - then changed his mind and went for kronenberg and epa - the barmaid poured a carling and kronenberg. Once my friend pointed this out she had a go at him, then the locals started to get involved and was going 'go on girl' complete waste of a pub.

Went here last Saturday. Good old fashioned pub, if a bit rough around the edges. The pint of Pride I had was spot on. A complete contrast to some of the pompous pubs/clientle on the other side of the river.

rProper 'match day' pub....decent mix of locals, away fans, office workers and the like.

L.Pride not of the best quality, but saving grace is the large garden....seems to treble the size of the place.

Outside bar and grill a nice touch for avoiding the melee inside...burgers ok for 2,just a pity it's such a larger driven pub...!

A proper pub. Proper people (ie, not beautiful/cool people) drink here and you can have a beer and a yarn with anyone. Nice beer garden.

I havn't been late in the evening so can't comment on the suggestion that the beautiful/cool people come here later.

The Golden Lion... One of the oddest demographics in London. During the day it's full of locals watching the sport.. And then during the summer evenings - the garden fills up with all the pretty young things from the surrounding record companies (sadly with the move of Sony/BMG a lot of the PYT are elsewhere now). On match days this pub has a lovely atmosphere... Anne always sits at the door making sure it's just local Fulhamers that get in.
I wouldn't come here on a romantic night out. But if I wanted to get a bit messy fairly cheaply - this is the place to do it...

well must say was plesantly surprised with the pub after reading some comments but went in and thought it was a good old fashioned london boozer. 3rd trip now, and like it better every visit. Landlady never stops smiling and same with the bar staff. Had a great Karaoke one and disco which I and others thought was great, why go up the road to a plastic pub when u can have a proper one and beer very reasonable as well

EyeCandy overstates matters rather, but this certainly isn't a brilliant pub. Pretty bog standard in pretty much all respects; Pride on when I visited but little else; some rather raucous locals in one area of the pub dominating the whole place.

DO NOT - I REPEAT DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS PUB... LAND LADY ANNE HAS A FACE OFF A SLAPPED ARSE, YOU ASK FOR A DRINK WHICH IS WHAT CUSTOMERS TEND TO DO IN PLACES LIKE PUBS REGARDLESS IF YOU SAY PLEASE SHE WILL JUST LOOK AT YOU GRUNT AND WALK AWAY.... IF YOUR NOT AND OLD MAN LOCAL YOU WILL FEEL INTIMIDATED AND ANGRY THAT YOU PAID MONEY FOR A DRINK THAT YOU FEEL F**KING GUILTY ASKING FOR.... SHITTEST PUB I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO

Why is a pub on Fulham High Street listed under Putney?

this pub has gone down since last time i visited. Good game to play find the staff. Or for a real challange find the staff with a smile.

this pub is going down hill fast. toilets are worst i`ve seen in a long time. food not much better. staff some good some NOT so good. don`t think will bother again.

Nightmare on Fulham home games, they let to many 'Geeks' in to the point that you cant move. Don't use if you want a drink. Never enough Bar staff, and the ones that they do use are hopeless. Will swerve this pub from now on after they way management treated customers after that sad chelsea 'mummys boy' threw his toys out of the pram...

Somehow think this pub is going to be a lot quieter on Fulham match days after Fulham fans being asked to leave following the recent derby with Chelsea. Little message for landladys Chelsea supporting idiot of a son. This pub has had close ties to Fulham football club for over 50 years, its always been a Fulham pub and always will be.If she or her son cant take a bit of banter they should bugger off, think they should remember that Fulham fans have practically kept that place going over the years FULHAM J

the pub has just had a refurb it needed it. All drinks are well priced. food good.

Packed before & after Fulham games, but always friendly. Well run pub by landlady (Ann). Bitter (ie Real) not always on, suspect demand issues.

Worth popping in about two/three hours after the game when it empties a bit & you get entertained by the Fulham drunks.

The legend that is BIG CLIFFY DEAN has been sighted here.

Used to live across the road. Really is a local's pub, good little space out the back where they do BBQs which were child friendly.

Always good to stop in and have a pint.

Doesn't look much from the outside, but a really interesting locals' pub with a decent garden too. Cheap beer (from 1.80) and wine (from 5.00 a bottle). Very good for Fulham.

The home turf for Fulham FC Supporters Club. Families welcome on matchdays with Fulham attire, or in the beer garden at other times (when the weather permits). Quiet with local oldtimers around (which I like) in the daytime. Food is not exactly "haute cuisine". Fuller's London Pride in prime condition.

This is a locals pub, and will get very crowded before and after Fulham FC home games next year when Fulham return t play in the area.
