Marston's have given the pub a make over. The back room is now closed to the public, but can be hired for functions. The name has been changed to The Cricketers Arms. After the refurbishment it did food. Then struggled with the kitchen so the food was on and off. They have now given up on food. Constant problems with the electrics have now led the company to decide to give the bar area another make over.

Mettricks in Centenary Wharf do local cask beers all day, plus food, and there's a great view and great ambiance, and everything works.

Large Marston's roadside pub near the roundabout leading to the Itchen Toll Bridge into Southampton. It's a little run down. It no longer does food, and there's an air of neglect about the large echoing back room, which has a stage and dance floor. Pool table and large TV screens in the front room. Two cask ales on offer - Pedigree and BoonDoggle. Decent condition. Children welcome. Smokers use the entrance lobby on damp days.

The place is not attractive, comfortable or charming, but it does serve beer, and is not offensive.

no cask ales on which is quite poor for a marstons pub, they had their own brews but only in keg format,so we opted for a carlsberg and bow (5.90)in the sunny liquid pie garden/bunch of benches next to busy main road, bar staff quite disinterested but reasonably quick service,6/10ok but lots of room for improvement

'What can you say about this place! The 'beer festival' that never happens. You'll see a pump clip showing fortyniner but the barmaid will tell you it's not on. Pedigree ..... same answer! Now supposedly it's illegal to advertise wares that are not for sale (by not turning the pump clips around) and she informed me that the company didn't allow them to turn them around when the beer was off. The 2 pumps ARE next to a small blackboard proclaiming "Make Sure It's Cask"! WHY BOTHER!!!!!!. Woolston will never win Hampshire's top town and if you happen to have the misfortune to be there then get out as soon as possible. If you want a pub with loads of 'fizz' beers, TV screens etc. etc. this is the place for you. For reasons of libel I won't comment on the 'infamous' landlady, but you can visit other sites to get a flavour of her style. I don't know who owns this, but do pub chains never read reviews on websites? '

decent boozer, come down the area regular and go in here on most visits , good for footy as loads of screens so always get good view, decent enough prices, always had quick service (apart from hot food on a midday midweek on 1 occasion) but that was greeted with apologies and have eaten in there previous and had lovely bit of grub ! good jukebox too ! staff seem friendly enough .. nice big garden out the front when we get the weather to enjoy

Went in tonight (5/01/10) asked for a pint of fortyniner as there was a pump clip showing the same, told by the barmaid there wasn't any. Asked for a pint of Pedigree ..... you know the rest! I said to the (polite) barmaid that it was illegal to advertise wares that were not for sale (by not turning the pump clips around) and she informed me that the company didn't allow them to turn them around when the beer was off. BTW, the 2 pumps were next to a small blackboard proclaiming "Make Sure It's Cask"! I feel another (pointless?) email to a brewery/pubco coming on.

"Quite possibly the worst run pub in Southampton, the land lady is rude, always drunk whilst on duty and continuously breaks her licensing conditions."

To whit . . . ?

Not a bad pub, seems to be about the cheapest in the area, food cheap but you do get what you pay for. Shows sports and a good place to have a pint before going to the football.

Good place to watch all the sport but it is small and can get busy when matches are on. Better in the evenings when its low key
