user reviews of the Queens Head / Easton, Clerkenwell

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Had a good roast beef and decent pint of Landlord with friendly(ish) service here a few Sundays ago in what is basically a (Gastro, yes, but...) lovely un-messed-around-with London pub. Have just been back seeking the same but was very disappointed.
They don't do roast beef anymore (hadn't done for "Ages..." I was told) and there were no ales available ("That tends to happen at the weekend..." I was told.) Food we had WAS good but the chef is being let down by snobby and incompetent front on house staff who act like they've got something much more important to be doing than working in a pub. (Why do they then? I can never quite work that one out...)
When the chef moves to a different establishment can he/she please let myself and others that have left similar comments on this site know where so we can give it a go please ?

Bright pub due the number of windows and an excellent pint of Landlord. Service was OK too.

Went here for the first time on Saturday night, and I think the reviews and ratings need a bit of an update, as there seem to be some changes since 2008. Maybe the owners have taken note of the numerous negative comments on the internet, because our waitress was literally falling over herself to make sure we were satisfied. This was almost balanced out by an encounter with a cock of a barman when we first arrived, but as our lady offered to fetch us drinks from the bar we had little contact with him. The Landlord we had was well-kept, and the food delicious. The menu looked great, gastropub prices, but the chicken leg was really quite good as was the bruschetta starter.

I'd come here again to eat, but the atmosphere was typical gastro-pub, ie not there in abundance, so not the sort of place I'd just pop in to for a drinnk.

I can only echo the previous comments on the quality of the service here - appalling. Disinterested, poser staff who consistently got even the simplest of orders wrong.

Very good food but unfortunately let down by terrible service and rude incompetent staff.

This pub has the worst service of any I can remember. Cling film on the pumps by ten pm, staff smoking at the bar by 10.45, and mouthy cocksure abuse from the staff as we left, officiously brushed out of the door, by 11.10. The staff here either take cocaine to get them through the night, or hate working in a pub and feel a need to take their resentment out on the public. This could be a nice pub, as it has good beer and pleasant decor, but it isn't. The food might be good, but the attitude stinks.

The Easton now serves Landlord ale.

I've been eating here regularly for a couple of years and the food has always been fantastic: high quality meat and delicious (usually roast) veg.

No ale, but the usual assortment of lagers and bottled beer.

Staff are always helpful, though the kitchen gets very busy sometimes.

If you don't like the decor, you can sit outside.

as previous reviewer says "cavernous and scruffy" and NO ale on sale , waiting for delivery apparently .

Must admit I have always disliked this place. A really try-hard gastropub with hopeless beers, cavernous and scruffy.

Looks like hell outside. Doesn't look all that good inside. That's part of the charm. It is run by people who care little for appearance but a lot for content.

The beer range is good and substantial without having to resort to the wilder fringes of (say) Belgian beers.

The food is outstanding and plentiful. The chef could make a lot of money in a fine restaurant were he or she to choose to. The service is brisk, competent and friendly.

The place will embarrass those whose idea of a pub lunch involves hamburgers or crisps.

Went there for a 30th of a friends and thought it was super. Food was excellent, nice collection of wines and beers, as well as an excellent atmosphere.

I think this is a great pub. I have only been there at lunchtime, and the food is uniformly excellent. OK, it is expensive, but not excessively so for a gastro pub. The staff are also friendly.

Pretensious pub where the staff are more concerned about their appearance, their night that they are about serving customers. The place is the most aggravating pub in clerkenwell.

Great food, but tad pricey. Nice airy venue.

Gastro pub, breezy, large windows, 1am licence on Fridays & Saturdays, good food, dancing, trendy but trad pub. Good-looking staff.

I remember this pub (with some fondness) when it used to be a birty run down place that staff from Mount Pleasant used to goto. That said the refit is great especially like the wallpaper at the far end.
I haven't tried the food but the atmosphere was friendly and the music was good. One slight negative, the bar staff could move faster and be more focused.

This is a great pub, who's birthday bash I attended last night. Great music (ranging from electro-pop to hip hop), nice crowd, 1am licence. Yes, crowded, but has a lovely atmosphere.

Relaxed gastro-pub tucked away down a side street. Often does get v crowded and if you can't get a table, it's not much fun, nowhere really to stand. If you can, you'll enjoy the food.

Fantastic food with good portion although not bargain-basement [around 9-10bgp for a main] and good standard selection of beers. Friendly staff who are pretty efficient, and good music always. A small area to plonk yourself outside come the warmer weather.
