please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Having visited the pub once again this weekend, we found the menu was varied with some twists to traditional recipes so there should be something for everyone and all our dishes were a very good sized portion. There is a good selection of wines, spirits, and beers and nice cordials for those who are driving!
If you like the hungry horse chain then this restaurant is not for you. I would also like to add that I have never had a dirty piece of cutlery, glass or placemat and we eat here regularly. The staff are always well dressed, well spoken, polite and are professional.

It seems to be a beautiful property but is infact dark and gloomy. Unattractive table settings with miss matching cutlery and sticky mats. If the length of the discriptions on the menu reflected the standard of food you would be thrilled - sadly its a lack lustre affair that dissapoints on every level. The real ale was indeed good but thats not enough ..........sorry wont be coming back.

Since our last visit this pub has become a free house, and as it has served Greene King beer for over 200 years, they have now decided to stock a different range of real ales.
When we visited there was Woodfordes 'Wherry', Adnams 'Broadside' & Mauldons 'Silver Adder'. We also noticed Aspall Cyder on draft and Bitburger Pils on draft, as well as a brand new wine list.
The pub was busy with drinkers outside and people eating inside, worth booking regardless of the day of the week, dart board in the back bar was also nice to see!

We had a really good Sunday lunch here this week. 2 Gk beers and one unusual one from the Black Country - all very well kept and served. A good start. Menu printed each day which gets a big thumbs up from me - not nasty old laminated ones or old-looking blackboards. Food very reasonably priced (12.95 for 2 courses or 15.95 for three) and all 6 of us were delighted with what we had. Beautifully cooked and interesting. Service lovely too - very friendly and welcoming and you felt like you were being looked after. We'll definitely come here again - why can't more country pubs round here be like this?

The phone number for this pub listing is wrong, it should be (01638) 711 698
We can confirm that the pub is under new management and so far things are going well for the new hosts.

Things are changing here on a regular basis, since we have been there the wine list has grown and so has the size of the menu! Things here are done fresh to order, and the young chef/owner changes the menu every 3/4 weeks.

Worth a try.
Would be interested to here your comments!

Under new management as of July 2006.
Serving Greene King beers and wines, home cooked food.
Later, they hope to offer camping on their field, and fishing in their river.
There is also a footway running alongside the river.
