please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Wheatsheaf was another Wolverhampton city centre pub that exceeded my expectations. It looks quite small when you originally enter. But take the passageway behind the bar and you'll find a large room, a courtyard and a garden area beyond that. I sat in the front bar, which had a nice atmosphere, with a small number of locals congregated at the bar. It's a Marston's pub, but with another friendly welcome. Ales were Banks's Amber Bitter, Mild, Sunbeam & Numero Nuno & Wychwood Hobgoblin & Hobgoblin Gold. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie & Thatcher's Stan's Big Apple.

I understand what the other reviewers are saying but I actually quite like this boozer. It`s got a bit of a rock thing goin` on under the surface ( Billy Joel does AC/DC on youtube check it out!) The beers are ok, found the punters untroubling and it`s right by the metro terminus...perfect!

Have been meaning to into this pub for some time, and being caught in a rainstorm yesterday gave me the perfect excuse. On entry there are a couple of handpumps immediately in front of you, and another 5 or 6 stretching away on the left at rightangles. These are difficult to see / identify as there is very little space between the regulars sitting at the bar, and the outer wall of the pub ! However, they are all Banks anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. Moreover the two “guests” also turn out to be Marstons in a different guise as well. I had the Wychwood Snow Belle which was reasonable.

Altohugh the is a perfectly deceent pub, you should be warned that there is loud music being played through a sound system which makes Billy Joel’s “Pianoman” sound like a banshee wailing ! Note also that the Gents is an unmarked door (!) next to the ladies.

This pub has been brought back from the ashes. Its had a fabulous referb and is now one of wolverhamptons newest real ale houses. Its getting back to how this pub used to be a few years ago.

We used to go into this pub years ago and even stayed there when they used to do B&B. I remember the back bar still having push-bells for table service. I returned out of nostalgia and was a bit dissapointed. It still sells Bankss Mild and Bitter (handpumps now not the old electric pumps) and my bitter was a bit cold - drinkable but not brilliant. I used the little front snug bar where there were another three customers one of whom was very p***ed but very friendly with it (why do drunk people always tell you things twice?) Anyway, there was a TV on showing a quiz programme with no sound which seemed a bit pointless (that wasn't the name of the quiz by the way!!) Far too many little stickers on the walls advertising their very very cheap food and overall I think I will just remember the pub as it used to be and move on.

Called in at lunchtime before a visit to Wolverhampton Races. Very cheap and quite cheerful. Chap sitting near me had bangers and mash which cost him the princely sum of 1.50. Proper Black Country working man's pub very convenient for Metro.

Visited this pub at the beginning of the year and happy to report it hasn't changed since my university days!! Still serving Banks's (being a southerner I must say it is not to my liking, but hey ho). But this is a good old working mans pub and a fun place to go. Especially if your into 'people watching'.

ROBCamra had given a great description of this place.

It can look a little scary in the bar, so we usually go in the lounge. The landlady is always friendly and down to earth

It is a nice stop for a consistantly great pint of Banks's MILD on handpull before we get the metro somewhere - last night being Bilston. It also has the Bitter and usual tosh, but this place never disappoints, its always worth a visit when with mates, perhaps not the kind of place i would take the wife though.

This is a proper traditional workingmans boozer in the city centre. It has a small front snug with worn, but not tatty, green leather seating round the outside. Three rooms at the back the left one and the right one are both lounges and the middle one is a covered courtyard leading to the toilets. In the front snug there were a couple of flat caps in evidence and a couple of beanie hats as well. Im 51 and the average age in the snug was reduced considerably when I walked in! There was a load of amusing banter going on between the barmaid and some of the regulars in one of the lounges. She seemed to have a nickname for each of them, most seemed to involve the word knob! There are 4 handpumps with Bankss Original and Bitter doubling up. The Original was in very good nick, one of the best pints of this beer Ive had in ages and at 2.15 it was a bargain. They advertise that they do midweek lunches for 99p with a list on the wall including faggots and peas, sausage casserole and catch of the day and chips. Its not what you would call genteel and I wouldnt bring the other half in, but Id be happy to call in again.

The Banks's mild is quality, the pub can attract a few dodgy characters.Have not had any trouble though and the staff seem friendly enough.Dr's verdict - probably best to pop in during the day.
