user reviews of the Hare and Hounds, Oakengates

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We called in here in 2013 and had a warm welcome from the landlady / owner. The pub is nicely decorated with old pictures of Oakengates and has a nice double real fire. The garden area at the back is large and there is plenty of parking etc.

By 2014 the place had lost some of its magic. The bar staff are not quite so friendly and it is often quite dark (as the lights are not switched on until the restaurant side is open). The food is standard fare and not particularly impressive. The music is often too loud and is mostly chart based.

Refurbishment completed and pub re-opened. Lots of food offers seem to be available.

It appears I was being a bit hasty with my last post. Now appears that pub is closed for refurbishment. Developments awaited.

CLosed again and boarded up. The hot rock menu did not save them

Me thinks jamesellis123 is connected to this pub in some way. Could be one of the few customers I suppose.

Rob you are correct. This used to be the Omnibus and was extended some years ago and became the Hare and Hounds. The pub has changed hands again recently after a brief period of closure. Rotating guest ale policy it once had is long gone. Went in for the first time under the new management last weekend. Very quiet , even at 10:00 on a Saturday night.

Large L shaped single roomed carvery pub. The area to the right has some partitions that make it look like a separate room though. It looks like a pub that has been dramatically extended at some time in the past with the old part surrounded by a new build style single floor extension. The area to the left is fully devoted to dining and theres a kiddies play area to the rear. Its a pretty nondescript pub really. Two handpumps on the bar selling Pedigree and London Pride. I had a pint of the Pride, it was poorly kept. I certainly wont be bothering with this place again.
