Sadly this characterful pub has closed (September 2014). Reputedly likely to be turned into yet another bloody restaurant, +/- flats.

This is the most insalubrious establishment I have been in for a long time. Fairly empty despite it being a Friday night and staffed by some very unwholesome and cheesy guys, closest way of describing them is chav greasers. Regulars not much better. The brief period of time it took us to neck our drinks was like purgatory, and we were away. Yuck.

Evertime I have been here, I have had a good time. Little bit run-down and loos are pretty basic. Beer always good.

Friendly staff, good ale and cider which is well kept. Two drawbacks 1; you never know when it is going to be open and 2; make sure you've left before 9pm on a weekend when it transforms into a creche. This place could be a wonderful pub with some money spent on it, you do feel like you're going back in time as you go in, but they have live music and open mic nights occasionally but never advertise it which is a shame.

Just back from a night out in this place. My friend who has a medical condition preventing him from drinking alcohol was mocked by a group of chavs. Said group of chavs turn out to be very good friends with the barstaff, so that's alright then!? Toilets were apparently last cleaned during the middle ages. Decent selection of real ales. If you don't mind being taunted by a load of baseball cap wearing chavs with links to the bouncers / bar staff, then this might be an OK pub. Alternatively, if you like a quiet pint of real ale without having to put up with a bunch of abusive knobs, you might want to look elsewhere.

A decent pub. The range of real ales doesn't seem to vary as much as at other pubs, but they're well kept. Worth including on a pub crawl of Hitchin.

Nice enough boozer that has been run by the same landlord since the year dot. Decor hasn't changed either but do not let that put you off. Friendly staff and decent range of ales. Just make sure that you are away from the place by around 9pm on a Friday and Saturday night when the 'lager boys' and shot-drinking crowd barge their way in for the extended drinking!

Good atmosphere and surroundings. Tried the London Pride which was very nice!!!!

The Kings Arms is an opportunity missed in my opinion. It could do with a major overhaul to drag it kicking and screaming into the 21st.century. It is nice enough...the staff are always friendly and efficient having to serve behind a small bar and the atmosphere is always good. But it has some odd touches. The conservatory is nothing more than a badly constructed lean to which needs pulling down and although the outside area is great for smokers it is not the prettiest of outlooks. A bit of money thrown at it would work wonders. They have some nice prints on the walls though...they seem to take up all available wall space and make for an interesting half hour perusing through them (if art is your thing).

Great selection of ales and lagers, friendly atmosphere too.

Great pub. Always a winner. The perfect spot after all the other pubs close up for the night!

I really like the fact they have heaters in the outside beer area. As a smoker, it's the only pub in Hitchin which feels the same since the smoking ban all year round. I really like the atmosphere late at night and you can usually walk in with a few friends but come out knowing half the pub!

Good aspect if you approach from Tilehouse St and see the pub immediately as you turn into Bucklersbury; something of a surprise to enter a rather tiny front bar but this is two-sided and the farthest room is much larger. Deuchers, Pride & a.n.other, Abbot(?), ystdy, quality ok but not exceptional. The kitchen could do with an extractor to lessen the cooking odour in the bars. Friendly staff.

Usually got a decent range of ale on. Good sized heated beer garden. Later opening Friday and Saturday. Good pub.

Best pub in hitchin, can sit outside all year round due to the heaters.

Late licence is great can spend all night there

Just how a pub should be run....good ales, clean, great barstaff, Late lisence. Tucked away a bit so dosen't fill up too badly.... Only slight problem is when the red hart opposite chucks out and it fills out with the greasey, spotty, window licking, oinks for the last hour

Nice pub tucked away down a Hitchin side street, not far from town square. This pub is quite a find, 2 or 3 well kept guest ales, leather sofas, 2 bars, friendly locals, lots of artifacts on the walls to contemplate whilst supping your beer, well worth a visit.
