Don't let the fact that this great pub is run by a miserly Yorkshire half-wit put you off. Grasping Dan is passionate about his real ales and often has unusual and far-flung breweries featured. House beer (Facer's) is good value and if you time it right , you may get a free bar snack or two.

Good food and beers always available but bar staff still in a world of their own.

Probadly one of the best pubs in the NorthWest. Excellant choice of beers - usually 2 from Prospect and up to others.
Food excellant, Steak night on Tuesday is a must - I have the 1335g biggest steak prize in my sights!

A visit here is essential.

Had a couple of superb pints of Prospect in here that help to wash down a first class meal.
They still need to do something about the bar service though, its dreadfull.

The Crown now serves up to 8 real ales at any one time & has recently been awarded Cask Marque accreditation.

Regarding Boltonblokes comments I've noticed when the boss isnt lurking the staff seem to be anywhere but at the bar or on our last visit keep chatting with each other as we waited. Still excellent choice of well kept beers. Landlord have a drive to the Taps at Lytham to see professional bar staff at work.

Had some of the worst bar service encountered in a long time here over the weekend, it wasn't that busy either. If had not been here before I would have walked out as the couple stood next to me did, at one point the bar was completely unattended. The lady (who was clearly in a managerial position) sat the bar eating her lunch and ignoring the situation did not help either.....
Once finally served the Prospect bitter was superb and we went through to the eating area to have possiblly the best steak pudding I've ever tasted, the service here was excellent but the way we were treated at the main bar did slightly spoil the evening

Came up from London on a golf weekend and was staying in the hotel around the corner. Looked on here for a place for a pint and some grub and what a wise move that was. Very impressed with the food ! Went in lunch time and had the chicken bacon & leek pie and it was the freshest homemade pie Ive ever had. Guinness was top too.

I was so happy I returned the same evening and a few of us got stuck into the "butchers block" where you choose your cut of steak from the choice of 4 and decided how thick you want it. Have to say it was really really good meat, and we all agreed on that!

HUGE selection of continental bottled beers (mostly Belgian). In fact the list was bigger than that of most restaurants wine list.

Nice relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a pint and a non smoking area for them that wanted it.

10 out of 10 from me.

I've tranferred my affections here from the near defunct Malt and Hops in Chorley. An excellent choice of beers with a strong un usually available.I also concur on the food comments.

First class freshly cooked food served by friendly attentive staff, not to be confused with the standard microwaved pub grub. Decent childrens menu and an excellent range of drinks on offer in pleasant surroundings. Maybe a tad pricey but we left feeling it was worth every penny and we will return soon!

This pub is great, our favourite. The real ales on offer at any one time cover any shade a discerning drinker could ask for as well as a range in strengths. The food is extremely good, with a variety of specials on the starter and mains menus, including some great fish offerings, plus a good fixed price menu and a-la-carte, not forgetting the butchers block! Aspull's cider, Cruzcampo and a European beer on tap (weissbeer, dunkel etc) along with the "standard" offerings for the unadventurous. Also available behind the bar is a selection of international bottled beers, ask to see the beer menu! Beer festivals twice a year. Heartily recommended! Sun deck terrace out the back is nice on a sunny day, accommodation is comfortable and for a little extra a great cooked breakfast awaits you after your night's rest.

Excellent food and real ale. Decent surroundings, and pleasant terrace. Just outside Standish on the edge of the countryside - well worth a visit.

This is a very good pub. Good choice of well kept beers plus Aspall cider on tap. Hot food looked excellent, the sandwich I had came complete with homemade chutney, homemade crisps plus salad. Is a CAMRA regional pub of the year. About two miles from the M6, worth breaking a journey for.

A place which is on the up and up. Cosy Bar serving an excellent range of drinks inc 5 cask ales. Separate no-smoking restaurant serving outsanding food & Butchers Block steak counter. 2 newly refurbished function rooms. 10 en-suite bedrooms. Heated, decked terrace. Regular beer festivals. Large Car Park.
