Another Dumfries pub which is currently closed. Apparently it was damaged by fire and water from the sprinklers just prior to Christmas. I'll be back one day to see if it re-opens and remains open.

Nice little flag floored pub with a tiny bar that only had draught Bass on. It was a very well kept pint though. It was pretty cold in here, so we only stayed for one as the other half needed warmth. Not bad.

Good friendly pub with a decent pint (I'm a lager drinker so can't comment on the real ales). John is a great guy who always has time for a chat. I've seen some good bands in there also. A vast improvement on what this pub used to be like.

This is a CAMRA rated pub on the river. I was disappointed to find Bass simply because it always seems rather a dull beer. But there was also, on my visit, Edinburgh Brewery EPA: a fine pint (with good flavour despite low strength) in good condition. It is fairly basic in decor but comfortable and with a friendly landlord.

This is indeed a very fine and friendly pub. The open fire has been a real feature of some enjoyable visits in dreich weather this winter, and I endorse what's been said about the Bass. The stone flagged floor looks to have been a real labour of love, too. Recommended.

update-

this pub gets better and better-

dog friendly- real fires- good (but limited) ale selection- and several outstanding malts...

John runs a very good pub-

occasionally live music-

and the only place in town where you can eat your lunch in the pub with your dog at your feet.

love this historical (est. around 1590) pub

I can do no more than agree with the previously postd comments. I have left Dumfries for Aberdeen BUT John recognized me immediately. Also yes the Baas is always in good condition

The Bass is always in first rate condition. The owner and wife are without thefriendliest couple in the trade in dumfries. The cider is great as well. great music for proper people
