Visited recently, not as good as it looks from the outside,no atmosphere and overpriced beer, wouldnt bother again.

Called in with some friends for a (discounted) dinner. The place has lost some character since we were last there (French tenants last time?) but the current staff were very friendly and welcoming and the pub itself very warm and cosy. The food wasn't bad either.

However what did suprise me was the range of beers on offer. There were 4 handpumps inc the common Courage Best and Bombardier. There other 2 were more interesting - Thwaites Wainwright and Caledonian Flying Scotsman. With the Waggon and Horses around the corner this gives Hartley Wintney a couple of good boozers.

Note that I cannot recall the beer prices in the Cricketers but suspect they were quite high.

This is a very cosy pub facing the village green and a great place for a summer's drink. Although the drinks seem very expensive I've always had a cracking pint there. The guest beers are changed regularly and are kept very well. I can't vouch for the food but there are always plenty of people eating.

Called in the other evening-our first visit for a couple of years. We were disappointed, there was no atmosphere (probably because there were no customers) and even though the menu remains french the gallic ambiance seems to have disappeared.
We were served with a mediocre pint of Courage Best by a singularly disinterested barmaid-we didn't stop for a second.

Pretty average, over-priced beer. The food's okay but you'll probably get better value in the Waggon and Horses round the corner if you just want a bar meal. Good location though and its nice to sit outside and watch the cricket in summer, as long as you can tolerate the yuppie idiots who treat the place like a creche.

Dropped in for lunch midweek. We were late, but they were still serving at 1:40. The pub now has a French themed restaurant called "L' Auberge" with very efficient service.

Terrine, deep fried cheese parcels.
Roast chicken, steak.
Tart tatin.
Wine and calvados.

Great food quality, view out onto the cricket ground, efficient service and moderate price. Definitely one to remember for eating out.

A food pub with expensive beer, the doombar was 3.40 if i remember correctly far to much for an averagely at best kept pint.I dont recomend going out of your way to try

Used to be a great cpuntry pub with a fab french restuarant, been recently and must say a bit disappointed, at one point you needed to book well in advance but sadly only 2 tables in when we went to eat. Food & service ok, real lack of drinks though to accompany meal. A real shame this pub has lost its way, hopefully just a temporary problem and will get back on track.

Oh Dear, Greg has left taking his lovely French partner with him. Widescreen TV (Sky Sports etc) has come in and the local yobs seem to have reappeared.
There is a temporary landlady in charge at present who seems to match the clientel. One can only hope that the owners get someone in soon to restore this pub to it's previous high standard. The restaurant seems to have taken a turn for the worse as well.

Went to the pub part and had very good ales and good conversation with the staff and locals. Went to the restaurant part and had a very good French meal. The oddity is that they seem like two different establishments that share one room. Works, though.

I enjoyed the French restaurant with real French people, how did they get in ;) Great service too, really like the idea of the French cinema nights too, although they've stopped for the summer I think. I haven't managed to have a pub lunch there yet as the last time they were only serving from a BBQ which was ok but pretty standard fare. I've got high hopes for this place, shame I don't live near it!

Catered for our group of 12 (including a very late comer well AND the rest of the Auberge side was full as was the pub with lunchtime office workers ( if they forgive the expression)

Have eaten there 5/6 times during last 3 months . Food always very good value.
Menu changes weekly (they say daily which might be accurate in some small detail)
Service very friendly and efficient . Atmosphere informal and friendly.
Booked to go as a group of 12 so will see how we get on but should be fine.

Lovely Pub where the landlord (Greg) is trying really hard to create a village atmosphere. Very friendly staff and good guest beers. They have put a small French restaurant on one side of the pub and the food is great.(and good value). They have a quiz nite and curry on alternate Sunday nights for a fiver. Just the place to watch cricket from in the Summer as well.

Last 2 posts are nonsense. Lovely place to have a drink and great food. Perfect spot in the summer to have a pint and watch the cricket. Good guest beers too.

Completely agreed with anonymous. I lived in Hartley Wintney for years and spent many happy evenings at this pub. Went back there a couple of weeks ago for the first time in about 4 years and it's had it's heart removed and is run by what I think are a couple of Antipodeans - friendly ones though! What happened to Big Dave?

Used to be a really great local friendly pub attracting people from all walks of life. Now unfortunately it has been bought by another company and they have decided to turn it into a french resteraunt. No one drinks in there anymore and I tink it is a shame that it has come to this. Bring back the good old days !!!!!
