much cleaner and better service than richmond arms. Good quality food and polite staff.

Possibly a bit 'local' and the outside bit always seems to be in the shade?!
The nasty landlady now works in the 'famous olde pines' in winton

When I entered, the atmosphere wasn't "pleasant and friendly" as I had read on the board outside. The room was absolutely full of smoke from end to end and everyone was far too drunk and messing about.
When I asked for an alcoholic drink and was unable to provide the required ID, I asked politely if any other IDs would be acceptable apart from standard driving licence/passport. They said no. Fair enough.
I was hoping they would offer me a non-alcoholic drink as an alternative and politely usher me out to the beer garden (where minors are allowed to tread).
No such luck: -
Firstly, the barlady who was awaiting an order from another man started joking with him about my inability to produce ID (she said "good thing he (me) wasn't in the queue before you" and laughed). Then she instantly called the landlady without offering any standard fizzy/juice drink.
Secondly, the landlady rudely jibed "there's the door - get out!" and pushed me out of the door with the help of a barman.

Aside from this, I've noticed that there are no clear signs outside to show that the pub is strictly over 18s throughout or a friendly doorman to do ID checks.

I'm absolutely disgusted at the way they treated me and I'm not going back until they sort out the situation.

They really ought to clean up their act or risk losing customers.

the fives was always notorious in past years for it's 'rough' customers, went there last weekend with a couple of friends, not too bad at all i must say. beer was good atmosphere lively. hope the new influence continues to inject positive elements. Bournemouth needs good local pubs.

the pub has improved over the past few months however in the recent weeks it seems to have lost its lively atmosphere due to many of the customers feeling the landlady's methods are far from reasonable.

A mate advised that this place has taken a turn for the better so went there yesterday afternoon to watch the FA Cup game between Leeds and Arsenal. Certainly nothing like as rough as it has been in recent years. Atmosphere was fine although the Wadworths 6X was a bit ropey. Good to see a B'mth pub that is actually on the up. Keep up the good work.

Lots of school sixth formers from up the road in here. Thought it was good at the time

Heard that Jackie who used to be landlady of the Talbot Hotel in its better days has taken over this place. That being the case, things should start improving although given the low starting point they can hardly fail to.
