Just like the old Farmer.. only much better.. Always busy with locals and nice food. Ale choice is still a bit limited, but there is always something waiting in the cellar chalked up on a board. Just wish they'd spell Abbott correctly.. not plural. A different ale would be nice instead of the usual IPA and Adnams. Why not a barrel of Gadds Seasider as it's local?

It is great to see that the Jolly Farmer has re-opened. I was here last Friday with my friends and had a wonderful evening. The staff and locals are very friendly and I had a good bit of banter with both. Food was very good (I had a nice dinner of bangers and mash) and the Green King IPA was on top form.
I'm just looking forward to the summer now so I can spend many long evenings out in their beer garden...

News on the horizon.. pub been re let after previous landlords upped sticks and left.
Lets hope that the new ones give this place the help it deserves.
Re-opening on the 23rd Feb ish, so will report back.

Very disappointing. Having eaten there before when the food and service was good we had a nasty shock. The food was mediocre and the standard of a supermarket ready meal. Gravy was missing from one dish whilst the scampi was dry. When we asked for a second bottle of (expensive) wine the waitress went back to the bar and then chatted to her friends. After 10 mins we caught her attention and she admitted she had "forgotten". I then asked for the bill so we could retire to the garden. She went back to the bar and chatting to her friends. Finally we went outside only to be asked by another waitress if we really wanted 2 tables as they were busy!!! Poor on all fronts. Wouldn't risk a return trip.

Just visited recently, nearest pub to caravan site. Had pint of Titanic real ale. Latest guest ale in pub. Unhappy to report, it left me with that sinking feeling. Was on 7 days ago and on weekend return to caravan, same guest ale on again YUK. Could somebody please tell these people that real beer should be changed a bit more regularly.
Shame really, cos quite a nice pub with friendly locals..

Thebman - friends of mine had a similar experience last Friday. They are both ale drinkers, and they went there as it was herself's birthday.

The Titanic they were offered smelled absolutely rank and had all sorts of detritus floating in it! The barmaid said that it was fine and supposed to look like that. When asked whether she was an ale drinker, she replied to the negative.

The barmaid then asked the "chef" for a second opinion, who confirmed that it was supposed to look the way it did. It transpires that he, too, is not an ale drinker.

It further emerges that the Titanic had been on for a week "and we're not allowed to change it until it's gone".

Sorry - nul points!

BEEN MANY TIMES. THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GREAT (EVEN WHEN THORLEY TAVERNS TOOK OVER FOR A WHILE). TWICE WHEN HAVING A STEAK I WAS'NT GIVEN A STEAK KNIFE BUT DIDNT NEED IT! YOU COULD HAVE USED A BUTTER KNIFE. SEVERAL WELL KEPT BEERS INCLUDING GREEN KING & SPITFIRE. GOOD ATMOSHPERE. LOCATED NEAR THE HISTORIC MANSTON AIRPORT. NOT BEEN THERE? GO ASAP!
