user reviews of the Athelstan Arms, Tuckton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Not bad at all . . . some OK Ringwood (Best, Boondoggle, 49er - not in pristine form, but fine) and an increasingly lively atmosphere on an early Fri evening. Some of the blokes at the bar were loudmouthed, swaggering cocks of the highest order - one of them bellowing all sorts of misogynist crap at the top of his voice for the benefit of his 'mates'; I felt sorry for the young barmaid, who was obviously new and learning the ropes, having to listen to that all night - but, then again, you get these sorts of 'characters' in a lot of boozers, and the atmosphere was otherwise lively and friendly enough. Worth a visit, definitely

Does anyone know if the Athelstan is under new management?

Went in last night (the first time admittedly for a while) and it wasn't quite the same. No menus on tables, no football on and not quite as spotless as it used to be.

Still a good "proper" pub though.

Not the worst pint of Pedigree I've ever had but far from being the best. I like Eddie Hanbury's 'not too many tourists' remark. None at all would probably be more accurate given the location which I think is somewhat off the tourist radar. Anyway, locals seem a friendly bunch and the bar staff are efficient.

This pub has recently been renovated (Oct 2003) and is now a popular drinking hole for locals and regulars from further afeild. with a heavy emphasis on live sky sports and boasting two new darts areas this pub is certainly one of my favourite Bournemouth pubs. Everyone is very friendly there. And the quizingo night with Peter Poole should not be missed. See you there
