user reviews of the Bure Farm, Bicester

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This 'pub' needs to decide if it's an actual pub or a restaurant.
If you want to just drink in there, there's no-where to stand & chat, most of the tables have 'reserved' signs on them. Even if you manage to sit at a table (because there's nowhere to stand without clogging up the bar), you feel guilty for the poor soles looking for a table to eat.
The amount of space that is wasted is criminal.
All they needed to do was add a place for people to be able to stand out of the way & have a drink & a chat, but no, they put in a rotissary area which is just useless.
And the wait at the bar is mostly far too long to get served.

Food was of a poor quality. Waited ages and no one esle was in the pub. I had a burger for some strange reason had a consistency similar to a bouncy ball. Then revisited for a cup of tea and because i had a bag of shopping got told i was taking the piss. Obviously the manager thought i was eating it. But to talk to a customer like that for aby reason is disgraceful i wish i didnt go here but its the only pub near were i live seriously needs a refurb and fresh managers.

Well what can I say? We have been to this on a few occasions but tonight must have been the worst. The bar staff were ok, but the food was another thing altogether! We attempted to order a mixed grill, to be met by sorry we haven't got any. OK, but it's Flame Grill Night and they didn't have 2 from this list of 5 either!! So settled for British beef and ale pie. What a mistake!! After waiting an average amount of time we were served an ice cold pie. The managers sorry wasn't worth the breath. However we do know who ever works in the kitchen can cook as the steak at the next table should have been rare but was more medium well. Two appalling meals down, definitely not coming back again!!

I have only rate this 4 because its is desperately in need of redecoration and refurbishment. The landlord who was there 18 month ago said it was going to be done last September but nothing has happened. Its good value for what it is and the staff make an effort to be friendly but its way past time to refurbish.

A pub with absolutely no atmosphere. The most expensive for a round of drinks during our pub crawl in Bicester.

Untrained bar staff who have no idea which glasses to use for which drink, seem to think any drink should be served in a pint or half pint glass. No brandy glasses (even for a supposed eatery), so after stopping the server about to use a half pint glass, it was served in a sherry schooner...need I go on about the rest of the round....

Rubbish service and prices...avoid this establishment.

A friend insisted that we should try this place a week or two ago on account of it's purported 'smoking room' - credit where credit is due it's very clever. I for one felt a tad uncomfortable sitting on a sofa in what appeared to be an enclosed area (I'm sure it must be legal!) with a proper table and ash tray.

For this I would award 10/10....now the downside...

The place is a 'happy eater' type of thing. The staff are youngsters who have no interest in engaging in conversation with their customers and the prices appear very expensive. Mind you one must bear in mind that this place caters for the Bure Farm Estate which is well known as being a London commuter area on the outskirts of the town so no doubt they don't find the prices to be that outrageous.

On balance 6/10 - mostly based on the rather unique way they've catered for smokers!

i would totally agree mate, but i wish my friends did!

Visited this pub last Wednesday and still find my previous revue to hold true. A large family pub restuarant not the sort of venue suitable for groups of young people to hang out or serious drinkers to compare real ales. It is good at what it does. I have never had cause to complain about the food , beer or service. The food is the normal Brakes Bros. type fayre which can be had cheaper but not by much. Member pubbingit remarks about the local Hungry Horse which I see now has a pool table.I think this may be more of a place for a 19 year old to hang out.

ok i have been to this pub so many times and for many years, for some reason my firendds like coming here so i end coming anyway, its only coz its easy to get to for everyone,

but anyway, i say avoid this pub as best you can, its rubbish,

the food either comes out cold or not cooked properly, the beers in the fridge mite as well be room temperture and the price is so high.

also they make you feel un welcome, if you go in and sit down for 5 minutes and then buy a drink, they have a go at you for it, (this has happnd to me) if you finish a drink then wait like 10 15 mins to get another one they will come up to the table and say "if your not going to have another drink please leave" can you belive that!!! that happens every night. the manager walks around and gives us horrid looks when ever he is around.

this is a horrible unfrindly pub with naff food that over priced and warm drinks that are over priced!! one would not reccomend it to anyone. i hate having to keep coming back here but if i want to see some of my friends who live locally then i just have to put up with it, if you want nice food and drink that is a good price and friendly to attend, check out the hungry horse!!!!!

As a big sprawling estate pub it's never going to be the most atmospheric, but it seems to do a good job of what it does. Food is pleasant (but not the cheapest), there's a decent outside space, and most importantly there were a selection of ales on tap including a guest the barman was willing to let us taste before buying.

In reply to the comment that the Pedigree was warm and flat, and that there were no chilled ales, the Jennings Cumberland I had was cold (too cold for my taste) with an authentically northern-style dense head, so this issue seems to have received attention!

Nice big parasols to sit under, very clean pub, if a little generic. The food is good quality and I would say reassuringly expensive that keeps Bicesters large chav population out. Staff do not generally pay too much attention to who is next as they are normally talking to each other.

The food is ok, specials a bit pricey so is the wine, and is a place for an informal or family meal. For a young persons night out or a venue for serious pub goers it does not hit the mark , they should look elsewhere. It does a good job at what it is,, unlike the local Hungry Horse.

Nice little pub to have a meal if you live on Bure Farm or Southwold. Food can be hit or miss - If you have the 2 course set menu, fills a nice gap. Wouldn't travel from miles to come here though.
Dave0044724 - 15 Mar 2008 22:13
In answer to slad2blues the terms 'nice atmosphere' and 'child friendly' are complete opposites. Unless you enjoy having a quiet chat ruined by screaming children I'd suggest giving this one a miss.

Beer is sometimes good! I've enjoyed eating here, which says a lot for one so hard to please!
Informe - 12 Dec 2007 10:25
The meals served were served quickly and were nice to tastebuds. Chicken & Seafood Paella 7.95, and Scampi with chips & peas about the same.

They do NOT have cold real ale though, I've had Pedigree served up warm cold and flat, which is a shame with the food being good. I was told that they don't have any chilled ales.

Nice atmosphere, child friendly, decent food if nothing special.Beer OK.
slad2blues - 16 Jul 2007 23:04
Ordered one of their sandwiches and they brought me a meal !!

Watch out also for the 2 courses for one at 5.95. Contrary to what it says on the menu it is NOT a full meal that you will get....its a light bite, and one of our party was still very hungry after their "meal"

Nice lunch on a Friday afternoon, served promptly, tasted good ( Steak pie ), friendly service.

Definitely improving
anonymous - 19 Jun 2007 11:29
The food is good value, the beer is boring, but the place is well-run and a cut above the usual run of estate pubs.
Braganca - 25 Apr 2007 21:54
You may have to wait a good while for your meal to get served in here !!

Even though we had pre-booked our party, it was a full hour before our main meal arrived.

This has also happened at lunch times as well. They seemingly can only cope with very small numbers

This pub has 2 sections so that you can choose either the smokers or the non-smoking areas.
Not a good choice of beers, but the food is good and the staff do seem to treat you as an individual.
Their Tuna melt sandwich is delicious !!
Recommended.

A bit overpriced, but the staff are pretty good and it's quite cosy for such a big place.
anonymous - 19 Oct 2006 18:24
Actually not a bad place. Food is slightly better than you might expect from a towney type pub. Staff are friendly and quite attentive. Not been in there on the busy nights. Huge layout and reasonably priced.
