user reviews of the Banbury Cross, Banbury

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A busy public house tucked away in a side street just of the high street. Large garden area with seating and smoking solution, also wall heating great for chiller nights. Large television which can be viewed by all seats within garden area mid range bar with selection of beers lagers and ales and variety of bottled beers pops etc. Staff very friendly and I was served with a smile quickly and efficiently (Well done Nicky)Although the price for a double Smirnoff and coke and pint of Fosters was steep £9.30. Toilets clean (good for a late evening visit on a weekend) although paper towels had run out by last visit approx quarter past midnight . Karaoke/Disco is provided on a Saturday night which seems to go down well with the punters, although I must admit a little to loud for venue size.Would like to see live entertainment in this venue eg local band/ singer. Pool table in use and popular. variety of seating which is comfortable tables clean and beer mats provided.Doorstaff/ security welcoming although on our visit We did find a slight problem in that the security ejected the wrong person for causing a problem (girl dancing in pathway to seating area in manner to attract males causing drink spillage and arguement resulting in male being ejected not female, turned out the girl was a Lesbian and her partner kicked of maybe security needed to look at bigger picture . On the whole a decent public house though pricing and entertainment need a review.

The Banbury Cross or The Banbury chav as i prefer to call it. It certainly has a cross section of people, and on a Saturday night a very cross section of people. The beer if on is Wells and Youngs and not very well kept, the staff are friendly enough, though i suspect alcohol has something to do with that !
It is a blokes boozer with t.v. dominating and music irritating.

Passing trade during the day & a large local clique during the night. Can often have a tense evening atmosphere but generally a good friendly management with consistent clean beer.

Food: good quality but limited menu
Decor: Worn & scruffy (due for a refurb)
Toilets: Very basic, occasionally messy
Service: Fast & friendly

been in recently nice pint of bombardier......food served and the beer garden is a distinct advantage on a sunny day.....food good.....menu not adventurous but well served....a good cross section of customers ....office types at lunch times and pub crawlers at night

They do nice lunches and they're better if you can sit out in the garden.

Went there in the evening as well and they were playing good music but it was a bit too smokey in there (even though I am a smoker!).

People in there can be a bit chavvy.

Town cnetre Chas Wells Pub. Rarely these days serving any Real Ale, more a lads boozer for a game of cards and a smoke.Pool table and music dominate.
