user reviews of the White Hart, Basingstoke

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub tries hard to be all things to all people - sports bar with big TV screens downstairs and Thai restaurant upstairs. Greene King 'London' bitter is ok, possibly it's supposed to be a (inferior) copy of Fuller's London Pride. The Thai food was good but the service was rather slow. Atmosphere was pleasant enough, although the plethora of warning signs about not taking drugs in the toilets suggests otherwise - and decidedly off-putting for a family visit.

The pub is being run by Steve and Mary who took on the management at the end of November last year. There are still teething problems in certain areas like people trying to contact the pub via phone , the number advertised on web sites and directory enquiries is wrong the correct number is ; 01256 355159.
There will be a new menu in place in the near future and they are taking Christmas bookings now . Available from 1st to 25th December inclusive.
Give it a try feed back is good .

A sports bar, very spacious plenty of seating and screens, nice cheerful atmosphere. Can't complain... except not a great deal of beer selection

At the White Hart now (the one on Worting Road). Not a traditional pub - it's a sports pub. Doesn't look bad though (fairly modern) but not much of an atmosphere.

Has real ale but only London Pride. They have a Doom Bar tap but the barmaid/landlady said they don't sell enough so they don't have it on! LP was ok though.

Food-wise, not a great selection - burger n chips (not homemade), scampi, fish n chips, homemade chilli con carne, homemade chicken curry, sausage n egg, and jacket potato. Thats literally it (plus the usual handful of sides - chips, breaded mushroom, and nachos). All mains for around 5. Ordered the chilli which was bland, at best. I could feel the mild heat of the chillis but there wasn't a lot of flavour, aside from the over salty nachos it came with.

In summary, drink here is ok. Food is best avoided as it's cheap but you get what you pay for, unless you have no taste buds.

This pub just goes from stength to strength, what a difference a year makes, clean, tidy, welcoming, a really great place to meet your mates play some pool or just chill, or take in the big game on one of the many screens.Live music most weekends, glad it is not far from me as it is now my local, well done all of you.

Greetings Beer Drinkers!
I no longer live in Basingstoke, so have not had the opportunity to visit the White Hart since it got took over - But I can say as a loyal Castle drinker for the past 9 years, I know this family to be the best there is in this crazy Pub game!

I'd like to wish Greg, Ange and family the best of luck with the new venture and i'll be coming for a visit very soon - I can't wait to see what you have done with the place xx

Whatever has happened is in the past. New management. New bar staff. Food is to die for. Still has TV screens to show sport but they are more discreet. All of the previous problems have been resolved. Very much worth a visit.

Good evening fellow drinkers,

After Friday 25th April 2008, I have heard the new management are in place and from what I can gather they run a very tight ship.

1) No under age drinking
2) No dope heads

In my experience from their previous establishments they keep their house, clean and tidy with very good food and beer, everybody is welcome as long as they keep within the law.....

i havent been in this pub i think but i have heard it has a lot of fights in there so i guess me and my family cant go in there because of the fights but i guess everything might be nice

Under new management. Previous manager was a bit of a looney tune. Was often drunk and not unheard of fighting with the customers. It completely taken over with football when there are matches on. TV's everywhere no escaping it at all if you just want a quiet drink. Quite a few of the customers are loud and rowdy, Very studenty at times. Customers are not very friendly. Food is okay and reasonably priced but it is all cooked from frozen and the sunday roast is not worth bothering with. Loos are smelly think they had a leak in there and unfortunatley its in the carpet. Decor a bit garish.
Okay if no football on and the kids are at home in bed.

I would like to drink in this pub on a regular basis but there is one problem. Why does the landlord insist on wandering around in his Arsenal shirt. When does it get washed? Ok so you are an Arsenal fan, I do not need reminding every time I go for a drink. Very good pub by the way and good food also.

This has been taken over and change to Q's bar.
Still full of the same idiots both staff and customers alike - Don't waste your time. There is a perfectly good corner shop down the road - but a few tinnies and go home!!!!!

Haven't been in there for a while but it is a neon infested garish chain pub
