user reviews of the King Alfred, Southampton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The place has had a massive turn around, recently taken over by a new manager who's made a change for the better. Cheep drinks clean and friendly staff, ill definitely be revisiting.

Pub and music venue for punk/independent bands. Also, popular with football fans before Southampton matches (it's near the city centre). Decent little place.

In here before the Leeds game. Really busy but quick service. You can stand outside if you want some fresh air or stay inside to soak up the atmosphere. A few away fans who were no trouble. This is a really good pub especiially on match days.

I popped in here to get some change for the parking meter and ended up having a pint! Great to have a beer in a real pub with a real landlady and real locals! Next time I won't be driving!

Great music venue with good service and some cheap drinks. I met Liz who is the very friendly landlady and makes sure you have a good time.

In here before the Plymouth game on Tuesday. No real ale so asked for a pint of the Mr Whiteheads Boxing Dog cider which appeared to be on handpump. Barmaid served me a pint of cleaning fluid not realising that the cider was actually out of a tub.

No hesitation in rating this the worst pub I have ever been in.

shockingly poor i'm afraid, service absolutely rancid on match days which tells you a lot about the people running the place, without being too disrespectful an utterly clueless approach to pub management to neglect it at what is obviously going to be its busiest time. oh dear.

Regular drinking hole for saints supporters before a game, not the best of atmospheres though. Overcrowded and uncomfortable, hardly a chance of reaching the bar to get a drink and regularily a target for angry away supporters.
