user reviews of the Westcourt Arms, Gillingham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After being closed for a couple of months, this pub has undergone a complete refurbishment. The new landlord has recarpeted, decorated and put in new furnishings and The Westcourt Arms is now a lot more welcoming! All of the staff are welcoming and there is a definate improvement to what was 'a bit of a dive'. If you have visited before then maybe give it another go and if you haven't visited, ignore the older posts as I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Happy to say a new landlord in place and you wouldn't know the place reading from the other comments. Friendly atmosphere, wide selection of drinks (including wine :) ) and very welcoming bar staff and landlord. Give it a try I am sure you will be made very welcome.

Not a great pub, generally always full of heavily boozed and very noisy lager louts of varying ages.

Haven't been in since it was refurbed. God, it needed it - formerly like a 1950's working mens club, terrible. Very large and worn down inside.

A very unwelcoming atmosphere - felt like you were very much in the wrong place unless you knew someone. I visited first with a girl a couple of years who wanted some wine, only to be told very gruffly by the landlord "THIS IS A WORKING MENS PUB, WE DON'T DO WINE". Tosser.

Overall, a poor pub with a menacing atmosphere, certainly somewhere that doesn't need to take up several hours of your life. Looks rough, feels rough, all very poor.

Apparently open again. Hope the refurbishment gives a long lease of life, and attracts new customers.

Thank you for informing llculj. Another pub closes then. A sad trend thatll continue I fear.

Does this pub have funny opening hours? I intended to visit a couple of nights ago (Sept 24th) but it appeared to be closed. In fact, it appears to have no life around it every time I pass it. Its a rather uninviting looking place from the outside, but I find that intriguing. What could possibly lie within? Im sure this reviewer will find out someday!

Superb pub, full of life and a lively bar staff.
Excellent licensee who's got a proper sense of humour and a lovely cheeky laugh.
Proper beer, good atmosphere and welcoming.
Go there

used to be a nice, friendly place with good beers - met a lot of friendly locals there - learned the real cultural English (I am German , you know) - am still having contact to some of them, although they keep mentioning the war" - You know I only mentioned it once but I think I got away with it---Its a shame the place has probably been run down a little bit over the years - but its definitely worth a visit--- Ill be there soon again.

Hope to see you there,

Christian
