We came all the way from Texas USA to experience some true english pub/b&b life and all I will tell you is FANTASTIC! The location is like a film set in the real rural true english countryside. Quiet, relaxing and in the middle of an oasis!
The Kings Arms not only has a fantastic locacation but also superb lodging with the b & b rooms. Amazing quality food and a fabulous beer selection! The landlord/lady Phil & Pat are truely the elite and treated us like family. Great staff and all I can say is WE WILL BE BACK!

I live in portesham and have been so pleased to welcome and be welcomed by Pat and Phill. The food is all freshly cooked by chef Paul who gave us a great welcome buffet and has kept those high standards since.I know there are some bad comments about the pub but they were pre Pat and Phill .Give them a go, they have made such a difference you will be pleased you did.

I have just had the worst service I have ever had anywhere. My partner, her sister and I just went for a drink for Christmas Eve. We were the only people in the pub. As I ordered our drinks I noticed a big blue bottle flying around the bar. Bare in mind that this is on Christmas Eve! We took our drinks to the table and after two sips of my pint the blue bottle landed on the top of my pint of bitter and sank into the froth. My partner took the pint up to the bar with the idea that it would be replaced. The land lord looked at the pint and the blue bottle and offered my partner a spoon to take the blue bottle out. She said that she would prefer another pint to replace it. He went away and repoured the pint and then said, "That'll be 3.05." My partner responded, "I wasn't expecting to have to pay for it." Remember we were the only people in the pub. His wife then said that it wasn't their fault that the fly had got into the pint and that they had hundreds of people outside in the summer. Christmas Eve. We were the only people in the pub. He then passed the original pint back to my partner and poured the fresh pint down the sink. Needless to say that the original pint was not finished and neither were either of the other two drinks. Idiots. I hear that they are moving on. I would advise any brewery not to lease any pub to these folk.

The frosty weather outside matched the frosty welcome from the Landlady and the equally arctic temperatures experienced by the few people inside, most of whom sat in coats. I suppose we can excuse this as we have experienced the first snowfall in Dorset for 17 years or so people say. What was inexcusable was the appalling quality of the food received. Pre cooked sausages reheated, watery fish pie and ordinary sliced bread with the pate, all of which was horribly overpriced.
We will not return and would not recommend.

We stopped here for lunch on a visit to the area, the food was fantastic for normal pub food, and the owners (I think they were the owners) were very friendly. We sat outside so can't comment on the atmosphere inside the pub itself, but for a lunchtime stop, highly recommended!

(Great for children too as there is a large, safe lawn for them to run on).

friendly service from all the staff, and a couple of real ales on, Food not too bad, I think it was all home cooked as well. Handy for anyone at the Portesham campsite.

On the downside, some of the inside decor is a bit tacky, and might seem a bit too 'touristy' for some.

Have only been to the pub a few times while visiting the area in the summer. A lovely location and the food and service were good. Will go back again when we are next in the area.
