CLOSED - going to be a Co-op!

Unfortunately closed again, lack of punters. The landlordlady were friendly enough by no sky sports, play area (despite a huge car park) didn't help. It's my local, don't turn it into flats...
markofsoton - 2 Aug 2013 18:48
at last a much cleaner more welcoming place.
Good beer, friendly people.
Give the new Fairmile a go!
solife64 - 15 Apr 2011 16:20
Well thank goodness my local has reopened, with lovely people running the place. The fairmile is a pub that deserves to be loved and the new management are putting in so much effort to get the place back to how it used to be. Already this place is clean and inviting. Especially the toilets. although they are not doing food yet, they will be soon. They open on time each day at 12pm and are open all day. I hope people will read this and give the fairmile a chance. Pop in for a beer and I'm sure you won't be disapointed.
littlesongbird - 1 Apr 2011 14:16
I have visited this pub 6 times over a period of a month as it clearly stated on sign outside BREAKFAST SERVED FROM 7AM. 5 TIMES I CALLED IT WAS SHUT
Sixth time lucky nor not in my case

Outside Area Dirty grass covered in fag butts, and rubbish ashtrays on tables full of fag butts and dirty water. Dead plants in pots has a real neglected feel to it.
Inside very tatty and dirty.
Not a nice place to take your children.
Breakfast took an hour to cook was it busy alas it was not, it arrived at last
beans were not Heinz were horrid and the toast was buttered in cheap horrible lard like subtance.
Will not be going back

raverchick - 25 Apr 2009 10:56
myself & my family went to the fairmile yesterday for sunday lunch.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what can i say? That is the best sunday dinner we have ever had in a pub before.I have never walked out of a pub so full up, talk about value for money. Felt very welcome & the kids were able to play!!!!
we were talking to the chef what a lovely man. I can see this pub will be the place to go for food & a great atmosphere!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 out of 10.
raverchick - 13 Apr 2009 09:05
Pub is cleaner, and you can sit by the front windows now, the sofas have gone too. bring back the red padded benches. Fullers London Pride and Ringwood Best on, perhaps a little pricey? 2.80 for London Pride.
justdarkbeer - 8 Apr 2009 23:27
I have received an email from RickyB saying that the phone number is not working for the pub. He has been able to get hold of the place to tell them he is not about this Friday night. If anyone pops in could they please let them know as he is in Watford. All the best. X (ps: been in and it seems alot better.)
HughGeeReckshun - 2 Apr 2009 13:04
Finally ventured back in after my last review to give the new managers the benefit of the doubt.

Whole place much improved and cleaner. Landlady (Sheena?) extremely welcoming.

Will definitely be popping in again.
robdscarter - 30 Mar 2009 14:10
Wish I could have made it in fo the opening night. Good to see the place open again. I will ask RickyB to pop in there during the week. See you there Titan!!
HughGeeReckshun - 28 Mar 2009 15:48
Great night and good to see all the old faces back in.
We hope it continues, and are all looking forward to RickyB's first gig there!!
Well done Sheena and Lyndsey, keep up the good work!!

Titan - 28 Mar 2009 11:19
Hi

Is it possible someone could drop rickyB's number through the door at some point this week, i am about on friday morning from 9.30am if you want to come in for a chat.

Many Thanks

Lindsey - Fairmile
Linzi_sheena - 25 Mar 2009 20:34
We wish Sheena and Lindsey a warm welcome, and are looking forward to next Friday, we will all I hope be in for the party, I certainly will.
Perhaps if a good disco is wanted for the opening, Sheena or Lindsey could get in touch with RickyB, his discos and birthday party do's were some of the best the Fairmile ever had, as were his quiz nights. All the original locals I know love Ricky's roadshows. I am sure someone could arrange for his number to pop through the letter box, I'm sure Ricky will probably do a good deal for the opening!!
Again a warm welcome.
Titan - 19 Mar 2009 17:26

The mighty Titan speaks for all of us. Let us follow the mighty Titan. He is the messiah. What we need is a good opening weekend party! We need live music and great quiz nights in there. A happy locals pub is a pub that makes money!!
HughGeeReckshun - 19 Mar 2009 11:46
The re-opening date is the 27th.
Lets just hope the new owners avoid a few pitfalls, some are listed below.

1/ Employing any previous bar staff.
2/ Trying to turn the pub into a posh Restaurant.
3/ Barring half the customers "cos they don't like the look of them and they are not their mates".
4/ Take the word of the end of bar gossips as either true or worth listening to.

If they welcome the locals who's money they will rely on as valued customers, that will be a start. The customers they will see in the first few weeks will be the only ones they will ever get, look after them. Remember this is a local pub, no one will travel to come here. Loose the local trade and you will loose money big time.
I hope we get a decent landlord, we miss our pub.
Titan - 18 Mar 2009 18:50
I wonder how much The Fairmile is worth? Obviously more as development land I would have thought. Perhaps we should all get together and buy it. We could start the "Fairmile Consortium" and offer 'half a dinari' for it! Let us all take off one shoe as a sign!!
HughGeeReckshun - 11 Mar 2009 11:58
Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello?
Oh dear no one is home.
Earth calling the Fairmile?
Earth calling the Fairmile?
Still looks shut to me.
What happened to the promised opening??
Just let John and Julie buy it back.

Titan - 6 Mar 2009 00:21
there has been workers in and out for a while now, we are waiting for the promised opening!!!!
Titan - 27 Feb 2009 14:38
so who took down the smoking shelter that was built by customers of this pub(and provided) lot of theives around here!
solife64 - 12 Feb 2009 11:13
Fellow Drinkers,
I have the official verdict on the Fairmile, and this IS official as it comes direct from the Regional Manager of Enterprise Inns.

As you can all see, the entrance has been gated off. This has been done to stop the sudden appearance of 20 or 30 caravans complete with "Dag's" and old scrap cars!
The other good news is that the Fairmile is being re-furbished prior to re-opening in mid to late February. There are apparently several prospective tenants who are in the frame to take it over.
I just hope that this time they are someone sensible who will run the place for all of us locals, and not for a handful of their mates. It would be nice to see our Charity Committee back, along with our community events such as the Summer fair and the very popular fireworks.

As I have said, this is not gossip, it is direct from Enterprise so it is as close to fact as can be. Lets just cross our fingers and hope that once more we can have a pint in OUR pub without feeling like lepers and being made as welcome as a pork pie at a barmitzvah!
Titan - 31 Jan 2009 12:31
Sorry to correct you Solife, but there have been workmen there. They are from a company called Bliss construction. No-one has spoken to them at length so we don't know exactly what they are doing other than "repairs".
We can but live in hope of a decent new owner for this pub. It is our local and we would very much love to see it open again. As Hugh said food pubs that do beer don't work. Bring back Sky TV on a big screen, decent pub food, friendly staff and good management.
Titan - 27 Jan 2009 16:09
I feel it is a shame that alot of the posts have been removed from this site. It appears that the 'not allowed to give an opinion' pixies have been on the loose again. We all know the pub is closed and by the look of things it might remain that way for a while. It is a shame because it was only a few years ago that The Fairmile use to be a great community pub. It had great managers, bar staff, entertainment and something always going on. I have seen many refurbishments and managers alike but only in the last few years the idea of turning a once thriving local into an eating house is one that has never and will never work. Take it back 5-10-15 years ago and a pub that did food worked. Not a food house that serves beer.
HughGeeReckshun - 26 Jan 2009 13:48
There are no workmen in the Fairmile and there were not last week
solife64 - 26 Jan 2009 11:40
Saturday the 24th January.
Allthough workmen have been inside most of the week still no sign of our local re-opening.
Does anyone know what they have been doing inside?

Titan - 24 Jan 2009 16:05

localvoice - 24 Jan 2009 03:38
I can confirm this pub is closed, and, as it owned by one of the two large pub co's, it unlikely to reopen for some time...
justdarkbeer - 24 Jan 2009 01:49
Are the owners of this site afraid of the truth?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS PUB IS CLOSED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So please remove all the postings below saying what a nice place it is.
Anyone reading these "what a jolly nice pub" reviews and turning up for a visit will be sorely dissapointed. The doors and windows are boarded up. What part of closed do you not understand???

I have said it before and will say it again. Please Please can we have someone to run it who will keep it open.

Thank You
Titan - 22 Jan 2009 12:48
I went out to the Fairmile last friday and what a fabulous time i had, it was kareoke night and it was so much fun everybody in there is so friendly the bar staff were so nice and its got a great atmosphere i would definatly recommend it and i will definatly be going back
kirstylouise - 27 Mar 2008 20:09
I took my Mum, step dad and daughter to this pub for mothers day. I would just like to say this is one of the first establishments to which we have been to of late where the food is actually fresh. Not that bought in frozen rubbish that u try to avoid in certain chain pubs, it was a real treat. I was introduced to the landlady who was extremely friendly and I though as a whole there was a great atmosphere. Will definately be returning. Thanks for a lovely day.
LadyH - 27 Mar 2008 19:38
Could have improved disabled facilities far better considering recent refurbishment. Seem rather apathetic when mentioned. Better orcanisation would be helpful, and fairness when adreesing issues

Come on ladies and gents...it must be awful for a landlord and landlady of a public house to see honest comments depicting them as an uncivilised, arrogant, ignorant and illiterate species that would be difficult to describe as human. Of course, Steve, the sad and ignorant idiot who runs this site ( and obviously employs totally inadequate lawyers( feeling, wrongly that this may be slander), will remove this post. However, even if it is only here for 5 minutes, then my request to the landlord of this pub is quite simply: you know where I live...have the guts to confront one on one without your minders!
anonymous - 28 Nov 2007 17:29
Now the ultimate indignity. We have nowhere to sit. The owners/brewery have removed the comfortable benches and replaced them with cheap cafe style chairs and tables. We used to enjoy a chat in comfort with other older residents of the community, now we have an atmosphere more resembling a school room. Brilliant white paint and hard chairs. We are slowly being driven out, presumably so the place can be "redeveloped" as flats.
Whatever next?
anonymous - 27 Nov 2007 11:31
We fancied eating out and after seeing the under new management sign on our nearest pub decided to give this pub a try.
Sorry but all I can say is waht a shambles! Firstly we were given the wrong change and a bit of a fuss was made about that by the barman. The food arrived and the order was wrong. No complaint about the meal we received it was great. We thought maybe it was new barman and then discovered it was the owner. We were made to feel this was our mistake. You obviously have a good chef but a little more organisation and attention to detail is desperately needed.
nick47 - 19 Nov 2007 10:33
For "surprised" in para 2 read "described".
robdscarter - 18 Nov 2007 22:03
Right.

There's been an awful lot written about this pub in recent weeks, much of which has been deleted, and rightly so. This is my local (in the sense that it's the pub nearest to my house, certainly not the most frequented), so as there's new owners my wife and I decided to give the place another chance.

We've just left the pub after what can only be surprised as an invidious half hour. Whilst I was at the bar a cretin on crutches insulted my wife so openly and obviously in front of his moronic friends that we drank up and left.

I know the owners of this pub read these reviews. Beleive me, we are the sort of people you should be encouraging to vist what could be an excellent local, not the imbeciles who only know one adjective.

As things stand I will not visit your pub again until it is cleaned up.

I am not posting this anonymously, like many of the pseudonyms used on this thread. Any comments on the veracity the goings on tonight are welcome, from the owners, the people who were there and the moderators of this forum, who will doubtless delete this post anyway.

Rob.

robdscarter - 18 Nov 2007 21:44
Well.... I used to use this pub regularly even though it was going down hill. I was optimistic when the new owners took it on recently. They seemed nice enough and talked a lot of ideas. However they are pushing the regulars away with rules and petty regulations and if they don't like you thats it. Have they ever managed or worked in a pub before? Customer service skills could be greatly improved everyone appears to be in a mad rush and panic and nothing gets done. Sorry I will not be going again.
anonymous - 18 Nov 2007 01:28
does anyone know if there is anything planned any bingo or a quiz.
we enjoyed the bingo on a sunday but when we asked that girl behind the bar she said she did not know what was happening.
anonymous - 9 Nov 2007 22:59
It is great news that there are new owners in the Fairmile. It seems they are working their hardest to get everything done...but think we can all sympathise there is a lot to be dealt with!

Please can I assure 'anonymous' on the 22nd posting that the 'dog-bowl drinker' was dealt with and that all the other events they have mentioned seem like they will have to wait until Doug and Carole get settled in.

I would give it another go
pubexpert22 - 23 Oct 2007 21:23
New owners!!!!!
What a great couple.Very warm and nice people with a lot of good ideas for change,i have never seen the pub so busy for a long time, evey single person said what a change it was to be able to enjoy yourself and laugh without being bared.I think this pub is going to do realy well now.Good luck to the new owners
slurper - 14 Oct 2007 10:55
Good pint of Hobgoblin, well kept, always has Ringwood on as well, and occasionally a Badger ale.
Food's been great everytime I go there.
Has a good family pub atmosphere, jukebox not so loud you lose your voice when it's on.
Not overly smoky, for those that don't smoke, for those that do plenty of space to do so.
anonymous - 11 Dec 2006 18:43
I think it's time someone redressed the balance a bit regarding the Fairmile.

The fact is that, a year or two ago, walking into the Fairmile was like walking onto the set of "Shameless", the cast presumably Dusty's "locals".

The Fairmile is an estate pub, and always will be, but does serve good food and well kept (if expensive) beer in a more pleasant environment than it used to.
anonymous - 25 Jun 2006 09:28
We have dined at this pub on several occasions and the quality of the food and service is excellent real home cooking.
Sunday lunch is real value for money and the yorkshire puddings are 10 out of 10.
John the landlord is a fantastic host and well respected at the bendy building, he goes out of his way to look after us old dear's
The landlady breeds Lhasa apso and the puppies are lovely.
mel the bar maid is a lovely girl
the pub is always clean and the tolets are very good
dorsetrose - 8 Apr 2006 21:27
I really want to like this pub because it's nearest to my home but, sorry, it's poor. Tables rarely cleared or cleaned and bizarre resaurant section at front which used to be a pleasant no smoking area.
robdscarter - 18 Sep 2005 17:34
The Fairmile is a well run pub
the landlord and landlady are really nice people.
As for the no swearing policy, it has made the Fairmile in to a much nicer place that you can take your wife and kids.
The food is excellent
all the ones that swore have gone elsewhere
annieandtom - 14 Sep 2005 23:31
According to the Daily Echo, this place has just been sold. Unfortunately, as is often the case, the Echo had only half the story. There was no mention of whom the buyer was and no mention of whether or not it will remain a pub. This is kind of important. Does anyone know the answer to the above queries?

John - 7 Oct 2004 12:41
A friendly pub with a good menu that is very reasononably priced, particularly if you go for the 'two for the price of one' meals which apply up to 8pm.The draught beer is well kept. Those who live in the purliues and environs gravitate there for the SKY tv 'kick-about' sports and bring their brood who run around with undisciplined iracibilty. This helps to drown out the enthusiastic commentators. Stay away from the pool-table end.
