What used to be known as Baobab is now an Indian restaurant.

Metal sheets removed some time ago, and there's been a skip there and someone seems to have moved in.

Whether that means someone's going to re-open it as a pub or not, is another matter. Someone was living inside when it was Blue for months.

Metal sheets over the windows and doors - And a sign stating "Everything of value has been removed from the premises". Although I think that was the case some time ago.
Headhunter13 - 11 Dec 2008 17:55
Appears to be shut again, following the recent floods in the area.
bods - 18 Aug 2007 15:31
went there tuesday night and the doors were shut at 22.05 just wanted to find out what it was like guess i wont bother now

Now a blues/jazz music placed called, er, Blue. This is exactly what it was before Baobab. Not sure if it will this time around.

Hi There,

just moved in to the area and was having a wander round - really liked the look of the baobab - went inside and it was dead though! Plus the service was terrible.
What happened? This place looks like it could be really good...was there ever a time that it was?
I've found the Tup pretty boring and Kiss me Hardy is a dive...would love to have a good quality pub to sup a pint in....what does everyone think?

Looks like Punch Taverns is searching for someone to run it, according to a sign over the door. The new owners didn't last long then.

Just went on PTs website and it's on for capital costs of 28,500. Not for me, but hopefully someone will take the opportunity to give The Tup a run for its money, although nowadays I tend to stick to The Sultan.

Apparently it is going to be turned back to the Six Bells. This is, presumably, to compliment the seven bells of sh1t that youll get kicked out of you for going in there if youre not a local.

Went in there the other day and full of cliquey middle-aged blokes, blaring out Chas and Dave songs and generally giving off a rather intimidating vibe.

The loan sharks that lent the previous owners the money to buy it have taken over. Used to go there quite a lot, used to be a nice place, not any more. Quickly becoming an over flow for Kiss Me Hardy.

Just awful, went on a friday night, it had the 'dj' playing "i will survive" and the such at volume 11, and we were the only people there. Took my pint outside, drank it quick and left. Such a shame, just needs good managment offer what people want. ie - good beer, good lager, good wine, good music, bit of bar food... easy ain't it.

I hope the new owners see the opportunities with this place. It has a nice interior, is well located (surely an extra 50 metres further on from the Tup is walking distance?), and could be a real goldmine if it managed to carve out the niche that is not served in Colliers Wood.

At present, the area is divided between average, over-priced places like GJs, the Tup or Venus, which all charge over three quid a pint, and the slightly rougher places like the Standard or Kiss Me Hardy, which are cheaper but dont have a great atmosphere.

There was a brief period, when it was open and had a few mildly decent beers on (Pilsner and Coors) at a reasonable price, that Baobab was my number one choice, despite the Tup being the only one of the above to serve ale.

Not that I have ever managed a pub, but if the new owners manage to firstly stay open, create a nice atmosphere, get some interesting beers in (and keep them on), and charge reasonable prices then there is no reason why it shouldnt succeed. I'd give it another go.

That said though, the Tup now does Deuchars IPA, which is a world class pint. Although most people seem to stick to Fosters/Kronenburg rather than give it a go, which is a shame.

dont need to go there again "aleking" as it is closed. new people taking over in the next few weeks. i wonder how long it will take them to realise that this place is a victim of just being in the wrong location. the tup up the road is taking most of the business in the area.

After the on-going beer debacle, I thought I'd give it a go on Friday but it was shut. On a Friday.

The place has tested by patience so it no longer gets the benefit of the doubt. Incompotent, useless and I will not be going back there again.
AleKing - 20 Jun 2006 16:25
went there and it was shut. on a sat night. no sign on the door. when it did open they had no stock. whats going on?
anonymous - 2 Jun 2006 16:09
I like Baobab's location, style and atmosphere but it is dragged down by its beer selection, or lack of it. For a start no ale, but they have a wide selection of your stock lagers and so on, but every time I've been in there, at least one is not on. In fact, I went in there recently and they only had one beer on.

This is probably a problem with the supplier, but if they sorted that out (I doubt whether they would venture into real ale territory) then it would really compliment the positives.

I love this place. I've just moved to Colliers Wood a fortnight ago and I already feel right at home here. The beer's good, the food's excellent, the prices are reasonable (not exactly cheap, but then it's not that kind of place), the staff are excellent and the regulars are friendly. Great music, a nice big plasma, and various events including a quiz night that had the place packed out. Plus, the first night I came here I saw my team the Boro doing that amazing 4-goal comeback against basle in the UEFA. Spot on all round.

A lovely pub very close to where I live. Beer is well maintained and served with a smile. The food was hot tasty and well priced. A pleasure.

ok place this, i drink here and The Tup. Foods good but its hit and miss if its on or not unfortunately. Beer is ok too but i like a pint of real ale sometimes so i tend to visit the Tup more. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

super, smashing, great... new years eve what a blast, Everything was exceptional from the free buffet food to the service. Thumbs up to everyone who works there they know how to run a venue.....
the_guru - 22 Jan 2006 05:04
The food is pretty good here, and great bbq's in the summer. Same the garden is on the main road, cocktails are good, no real ales but you can't have everything. Certainly one of Colliers Wood's two finest drinking establishments....
Flawed - 22 Dec 2005 11:04
As i have just recently moved to the area, you check out the local amenities before you take the plunge. And baobab was one of the main contributing factors... AS soon as you walk through the door the atmosphere makes you feel more than welcome. The guys are very friendly and everything from the fresh cocktails to the excellent metro star rated food makes this place a definate daily hang out. Music is spot on and on certain nights ive visited parties are flowing. Check it out, you wont be dissapointed....
the_guru - 6 Nov 2005 01:40
The best pub in Colliers Wood (even after the Tup opened). Good beers, good cocktails, good food, nice atmosphere. The only drawback is that the beer garden is a bit smallish and on the main road.

The staff are especially nice and really make a difference. I would recommend this place to anybody heading out this way.
Loki - 21 Sep 2005 16:29
Baobab is fantastsic. The atmosphere in the pub is superb, with beers, cocktails and wines to suit all taste buds. The food is also of a high standard, especially the lamb shanks. The interior is well thought out and the layout is perfect for a relaxing drink with a partner or a couple of drinks with friends. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful which is a breath of fresh air from other pubs one can go to.
All in all Baobab is definately the best pub in the area.

Baobab is excellent. I would definitly recommend going...good all rounder, gorgeous food, fantastic cocktails, great BBQ's in the large garden, really friendly and attentive staff (Hard to find these days!!), they have a chilled out but sassy atmosphere during the week and nice and lively at the weekend! Have been loads of times and think it is the best bar in area especially when they do special nights like the NYE party 2004!! Really can't fault it (Especially the Baobab Bomb Shots)!

lovely food, friendly relaxed atmosphere, and some gorgeous cocktails at v.reasonable prices.just right.
rax - 24 Aug 2005 10:18
I love this place since it re-opened as Baobab, the food is fantastic and well-priced, especially the Sunday Roast, the staff are friendly and helpful. Music on Friday/Saturday nights is great and the atmosphere is brilliant. If you want good food, beer and somewhere to start the weekend with your mates, this is the place to go.
sarahh2go - 22 Jun 2005 09:22
With bbq season kicking in, the temptation to chuck on your pinny and cremate a chook at home is often too much to resist for some.
Thank god for Baobab.
A huge terrace out the back and some of the best bbq'ed food this side of the river, makes this place a must. When the sun goes down, slink indoors and relax in the bar, tapping your foot to a few grooves whilst enjoying a cold beer or fresh mojito from the the thoughtful yet unpretentious cocktail menu. And guess what? They even have clean, fresh toilets for the ladies. All I can say is get involved...

hughc - 14 Jan 2005 12:49
I like it too, nice pints of Fosters. Not the kind of place you can spit on the floor though ! Anyone know any good pubs in Hendon ?
PC Diarmuid O'Spittle - 18 Nov 2004 10:11
Lovely little bar/pub with a very attractive menu. All service is friendly and they've got Pilsner Urquell on tap. Just what this area needs.
Briony - 1 Nov 2004 11:47
Lovin' Baobab - Colliers Wood needs this kind of bar. Great cocktails and the sunday roasts are to die for - especially the roast beef.
Cassy Waugh - 26 Oct 2004 11:30

Now repoened as Baobab, a new bar, friendly staff, cool music and really good food. Highly recommended
A Herrity - 30 Sep 2004 16:45
It closed down and reopened as a new bar. Bit of a trendy bar but that is fine as it's kind of needed in this area.
Kitty - 30 Sep 2004 14:14
Very nice relaxing pub/bar, which is great for drinks and a chat with your mates. Nice atmosphere created by soft lighting and candles. Good music loud enough to enjoy, but not so loud that you have to shout to talk.
