please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Have tried this pub again on a couple of occasions and am pleased to see that the ale has improved - they've reduced the range to one (usually Adnams or Pride) but keep it well. Less really is more!

Went back again for a few beers over Christmas. Guinness was very good, and as you'd expect here was poured well. Can't comment on ales but most people seemed to be on lager or Guinness so Status Baby's point is a valid one.

Went in a couple of weeks back - they started doing London Pride a couple of years back - now they do Youngs Gold as well. Both beers in pretty poor condition - especially the Pride which was only fit for chips. Would be better if they just did one cask ale as they obviously don't have the turnover to support two.

Was in here on Saturday Evening a few weeks ago for a few beers Its a Nice Irish type Bar without the Plastic feel. I found the staff very good & the locals that were in good & frendly atmosphere nice. I had Two Pints of Guinness But I also see on Hand Pump was the following Ales as well Young's Gold & London Pride. Makes this place well worth a visit if your in the Area Much better than the Pub over the road. They also show most sports on a big screen.

I was in here earlier in the week and I have to say that there has been a vast improvement. The lager was good unlike the undrinkable rubbish that I was confronted with during my last visit when this place was called Spoons. Greene King IPA and Pride are also available and the barman was very professional.

There are plenty of plasma screens dotted about and they show all sports on Sky and Setanta.

It is nice to have another reasonable pub in the area.

Went here for Sunday lunch last Sunday. It's not really a restaurant as there were only two items on the menu - either Roast Beef or traditional Irish bacon and cabbage. Well there was a third choice, you could have a little bit of both (which turned out to be a lot of both!)

Food was excellent and only 32 for four people.

Staff were very efficient and friendly. Sampled the Fosters which was decent and the Guinness which was excellent.

As you'd expect by the food it's a very Irish pub which also had several large screens showing rubgy and horseracing.

I'll definately be back again.

drumandmonkeyfan - 12 Jun 2008 03:32
Its reopened now as it was only closed for a few days change of Management. There were no decent Ales on tap the day I went in but the Guinness was good I will give it another try at a later date & post update.

The last comment ~ What a load of tosh! I still drink in here once or twice a week, and always find it pleasurable. Yes it has got a little quieter but the other sunday they were queing at the door to get a seat. My guinness was lovely the place is always spotless and the woman doing the lovely carvery was a hoot. Still recommend it whole heartedly.

Well, I reviewed this pub almost two years ago - and what a rollercoaster ride it has been since. After changing management no less than three times, the Spoons has become a shell of what it once was. Generally crap all the time now, I highly reccomend drinking elsewhere.

Additionally, the Stella tastes like hot garbage more frequently than not.

So sad to see such an institution felled by lazy management. Ah, such is life.

I was very disappointed with The Spoons, especially after it had such a high rating on BITE.

I went in on Thursday night and there were 5 people in there with no sign of the advertised quiz taking place. The barman that served my pint of tangy Stella was a little strange, but the 4 people at the bar watching football on the large screen seemed friendly enough.

It is a large clean place with what I think was a kitchen/serving area at the back of the pub and a pool table downstairs in its own room.

It was like walking into the twilight zone. I dont know if it has changed management since the good reviews or whether I was just unlucky but I will definitely not be rushing back in a hurry.

great staff and manager clean toilets and fresh tasting tap lager and a great selection of irish bands one in particular is the mandolin led bang on who's singer does a comical rendition of the wurzels classic combine harvester even though it tells a dark tale it raises a grin on everyones face :-)

i live quite near this pub, and although it tends to look a bit rough and darak from the outside, once in, was a great atmosphere, very locals place, but non pretenscious, serious drinking palce to be.also opens up front, when its hot, which is great and shows all sport on plenty of t.v's Clientele are all locals and very freindly aswell. Prices and food are good value.

Great local boozer - neither unpretentious nor rough. Fantastic Sunday lunches, live bands every Friday and Satuday night, quiz every Thursday.
