please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A Friday afternoon re-visit while in Lewes, on arrival early afternoon there was only 1 other punter in who was eating he’s fish and chips looked good. A short wait for the bar man / manager to serve us but when he did he was extremely jolly and helpful. 3 ales on which were Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter, Fuller's London Pride and Dark Star Hophead...the Harvey's Best was decent.

The King’s is a nice pub but with only one other punter in and the barman it was hard to tell whether it’s more of a restaurant than pub.
The décor is quite spartan and the leather sofas are battered, it doesn’t feel unloved but pub does feel like it’s a little bit forgotten.

An attractive antique tiled fireplace sit underneath a portrait of Anne of Cleaves.
Nice clean toilets, music playing, 3 ales on, friendly barman, the King’s appears to be a decent pub so hopefully in the evenings and weekends its a lot busier.

Haven't eaten here but the beer is fine, I agree though with the last reviewer it does have a restaurant feel

Fantastic food, well kept beer. Does feel a bit more like a relaxed restaurant than a pub, but nice anyway.

Ate here in October and have been meaning to post a review since. The food was the best pub food I have eaten in a long time. Above average prices, but well worth the money. Beer selection could be better though, usually only Harveys and one other on,

Definitely more for foodies than drinkers. I think they've madce a mistake in cramming in too many tables so everyone feels a bit cramped - still, we all know that's where the profits are. Have tried it a couple of times but never felt able to relax.

Having heard good things about the Kings Head we tried a meal there recently. It has changed a lot since the new owners took it over and have 'modernised' it. The decor was quite stylish but not particularly to my liking. I drank Harveys which was in fine condition. Despite the feeling of being rather gastro, the food is quite well priced. The main complaint both my wife and I had was that the meals we had had been very heavily salted and this spoilt the meal considerably. Maybe we were unlucky, but all in all I don't think I would return. Fortunately for the owners others seem happy with it becasue it waas busy even though it was mid-week.

I think the previous review is a little harsh. This pub certainly has moved in the gastro direction but there's plenty of space to sit and drink, the beer is excellent, the staff very friendly and the food I had was excellent and fairly priced. I think Lewes is big enough to accommodate a range of pubs and, while I agree the GA, Brewers and Snowdrop are all excellent at what they do and visit them regularly, I think the new managers have improved the Kings Head which never did much for me before.

So, the solution to a failing local is once again to 'gastro' it. Great. Harvey's Sussex Best and Hepworth Prospect were on good form when I visited at the end of November before a trip to The Pan. A little pricey, but hardly a surprise. Food looked ok. Sadly the place felt soulless. Typical gastropub interior. It was, however, quite busy - clearly the DFLs like it, which is fair enough. I won't be returning though. A shame to scratch it off my pre-match list. At least the likes of the Gardener's, Elly, Brewer's etc. continue to thrive as proper pubs. Well done to them for getting the formula right. If you want a food-orientated pub, head over to the Snow Drop.

Visited end of July 09, served moldy bread as part of our 2year old daughters meal which she unfortunately ate half of before we noticed. Enviro health notified next day! AVOID!

Was quiet for a Saturday, but did serve a decent pint of Harveys. Small garden/courtyard area pleasant on a summer June evening. Civilised staff and customers.

Friendly local clientele, good food at a reasonable price.
We enjoyed a fantastic pint of Harvey's. There was Hobgoblin too though we didn't try that.

Visited recently and it was ok. The beer was nice, but has lost some of its old charm. Worth popping in for a pint.

Lovely food, it focuses more on food than a traditional pub should!

Agree with the good beer and excellent food comment below. Although clearly food orientated did not feel as though it had lost the pub atmosphere. The wooden beams help as do the pictures of numerous kings that line the walls. Recommended

Picture postcard pub, good beer and excellent food, if you are in the area, MUST visit.
