Deacons closed down, The Ragged Cat closed down. Good riddance! Go to the Cellar Bar (opposite) instead.
RedHues - 13 Jan 2011 14:07
Closed again last month (October). Owners Admiral Inns say they "are reviewing (their) options".

It reopened at the weekend as "The Ragged Cat". Decor pop-based, pictures of singers &tc, decor not exactly restful (black and white), fittings look car bootish. Not a bad pint of Pride, though; Pedigree on offer as well. Chatty guvnor; says he'll let it run for a few months, then close for a proper refit. Good luck to him.

The pub is closed yet again. Will reopen soon under another name but some locals call it The Syringe And Crackhead.

Always had a reputation due to the area and its clients.I wish the new people well but it will be a long hard struggle.

According to Admiral Inns this place will reopen in late June as a community pub (no, really) and will be known as The Ragged Cat.

Good luck to the landlord/landlady who take on this place. To say that they'll have their work cut out is an understatement to say the least.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the old clientele try to assert themselves which they surely will and this place has such a bad reputation that attracting new custom will be difficult even if the new people are successful in barring the scum that used to drink in here.

As I say, good luck to them. They will need it.

This pub has finally got its just deserts, the police this week closed it down for 3 months and unless somebody like a pub chain comes and takes it over and so run it like a pub should run then it should not be allowed to re open Deacons has been nothing but trouble and is a let down to the Boscombe area,so in my eyes its good riddence.

I have visited this pub on a few occasions in recent months and Im afraid to say its very poor You have a landlord who looks more suited to Londons east end and most of the regulars who use this pub look like ex-criminals and very dodgy. My advice sadly is to avoid this pub at allcosts very shady place.
sawreytonian - 19 Jan 2008 05:18
Terrible place made worse by the manager who tries to live up to the Krays reputation but has nothing to back it up.Also glorifies self confessed murderer Freddie Foreman, supposedly a "personal friend" of said manager.

the beer is average, theres no food.the customers are a mixed bunch and some of them are quite friendly.

If it changes hands might be worth visiting,if not forget it

best pub in boscombe by far, decent working class people unlike the other pubs with the lowlife dole claiming boscombe scumbags which sit there for cheep deals of flat pints of beer,if you want a proper nice pint with proper nice people go and try this pub, the landlord and landlady has turned this pub around to a nice local pub so come on in and see the smiling happy faces of deacons...the watchman

I have to admit i don't often go in this pub, mainly due to the bad rep the place has, though on the few occasions i have been in there hasn't been any trouble. There's always a few dodgy looking characters in there but it is right in the middle of Boscombe.

Good pub if you fit in. doormen a bit up themselfs pos living off rep of landlord so called rep. dont like change of partners. should be a marrage guidence pub.
dagdog - 5 Nov 2005 18:01
This pub has a very bad reputation. The owner ought to address this.

The size and location of the pub means that it could be a great place.
seasiderMM - 17 Dec 2004 06:08
still a brilliant local pub. Never had a bad pint and everyone is friendly.
Full of characters - great Sunday viewing.

It is really amazing to me, that there are people who actually think that Deacons is a good pub. I live locally, and most of us think that this is a scumbag place, and a den of thieves. Anybody who does not believe this, should ask the bouncers at the doors what they think about Deacons.

This place is one of the few remaining drinking houses that we should be proud of. Going down the pub is all about meeting new people and talking a load of cobblers and of course, getting out of it. If you dont like reality of every day life you should stay at home and watch tv.

I visit Boscombe fairly regularly, and I've always felt welcome in this pub, I've also had no problems with beer, one grumble - sometimes takes a while to get served as the barmaid finishes gossiping

I have lived in Boscombe with my partner for the past four years. We visit Deacons every Sunday for the karaoke and enjoy the atmosphere. The locals are always friendly, the Landlord and Landlady are very pleasant people and I would recommend this pub to anyone who is wanting a good night out, There is no more trouble in this character pub than there is in any other.

Best to be streetwise if you use this place.
millers - 31 Dec 2003 20:10
I UES TO DRINK HERE IN THE LATE SIXTIES WHEN THE NEW LANDLORD TOOK OVER HE WAS PUSHED UP AGAINST THE FRUIT MACHINE AND WARNED TO BEHAVE HIMSELF .I ALSO REMEMBER A BLOKE BEING THROWN THROUGH THE GLASS WINDOW IN THE DOOR PERHAPS ITS THE LEY LINES??
VINNY - 5 Jun 2003 23:16
Its a rough place all right, current landlord Jimmys two brothers were both given life sentences at the trial of the Krays.Kray pics abound in here. However there are worse and in 40+ visits ive seen very little trouble but be warned sunday karaoke day is a boistrous affair
ian - 2 Jun 2003 16:44
This is a vast place which has been a dump since well before I started drinking in 1979 and consequently I only visit about once every five years. If someone was ever to get a grip of the place the sheer size means that there is potential for great change. The main problem is that it is frequented by the scum of the earth. In the late 80'sish a bloke was murdered outside when the pub was in a previous incarnation. (Palmerston) and things haven't got any better. Ale is crap, Worthington, Caffrey's etc and they don't do food. Couple of fruit machines and a pool table. Get a grip please as Boscombe could do with some decent juicers.
