Whilst on holiday with my husband and another two couples we visited this pub walked up to the bar and as the barman was about to take our order the Manager turned around, who was sitting at the bar drinking at the time, and in a nasty tone said "we are closed" consiquentley we did not vist his pub again. Loads of pubs in Scarborough with very nice Managers who were very happy to take our money

Unbeleivable....asked the bar man/thing for a pint of snakebite and after a while and a grunt he pulled me a pint of cider......asked him again for a pint of snakebite and he poured the cider down the sink, only to fill it with another pint of cider......asked him a 3rd time and low and behold...he tipped that pint of cider down the sink. ...... only to give me a half of lager (in a pint glass) and a half of cider and told to mix it myself......He never had any facial expressions whatso-ever!!! Well worth a vist if youve just had a family bereavement and you need a good laugh!!!!!!!

Sadly, seen the best of its days, which wouldnt be too much of a problem if they served a proper drink instead of the 4 tap tosh stuff. If you have no expectations and you wont be disappointed!

Friendly enough and there was a chap singing away in the corner as the paid entertainment, who too be fair, was quite funny - even when the expectant audience, waiting to hum along to another classic hit, shrank from 10 to about 4. This really doesnt help, as its quite a big place.

Hasn't changed a lot from the times I took my kids there 30 years ago. Typical seaside front pub that does what it says on the tin, though it was empty when we were in early midweek evening.

Really great pub, will be back again this weekend. Great landlady and bar staff. it's just amazing all these negative reviews all seem to be from anonymous people apart from "things" that is. Cheers to everyone who works in THE LANCASTER you're doing a grand job.
shazzakicksass - 23 Aug 2007 20:20
I'd ignore all the negative post's about this place as someone obviously has a grudge.
The lady in question has always been very polite towards me.

This pub and Mandy (landlady) husband, daughter & staff are all really pleasant, most down to earth people you could ever wish to meet. Such a relaxed atmosphere, great place to chill and have a drink.( without breaking the bank) Children always welcome, which is just what you need when your on holiday or day tripping. All I can say about the negative reviews on this page is you must have done something to upset, 'cos they're not easily offended. Be back soon Mandy, oh and just to mention music great too. Rock on Lez !!!

Senior citizen south of Watford gap had a great 4-day at the Lancaster. Landlady, landlord and staff all so helpful and polite would recommend this pub to anyone with respect for the human race.

an ode to the comments before me:
this pub is great the staff are fantastic the people who drink there are friendly and good company to be in.
i think somone is just annoyed because they wanted the toilet and were not allowed because as with most pubs the toilets are only for paying customers!
i agree with sam respects earns respect and a question did u buy a drink or just use the toilets??
boney - 11 Jul 2007 12:46
The only good thing about the Lancaster was when we closed the door behind us for the last time when we were leaving. Staff were very rude and ignorant. The pub was a dive and our gut reaction when we saw the landlady was correct we should of walked straight back out.
anonymous - 6 Jul 2007 23:42
still a goodpub with polite and friedly staff beers now extra cold had a great evening on saturday. can only assume "things" was rude to the staff as respect gets respect in this pub
sam.2 - 21 Jun 2007 14:55

As said before not as busy as it used to be, but at least you can get a seat.
Big venue that could do with a refurb !!!
