user reviews of the Golden Last, Scarborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I was visiting Scarborough at the weekend and being a Rangers supporter, thought I'd have a quick pint in The Golden Last out of curiosity. I'm very glad that I did! I was made to feel very welcome by the staff and patrons alike. The beer was decent enough and at £1.50 a pint I certainly had no complaints. The first thing you notice (when your eyes become accustomed to the dark interior) is the décor. This pub is certainly not shy of showing just where its sporting and political allegiances lie. I can see how this could seem a little intimidating to some people but please don't let that put you off. In the whole time I was there I didn't hear any mention of either Rangers or politics/religion. What I did hear is a lot of joking and laughter. Suffice it to say that my 'quick pint' turned into many an enjoyable hour and repeated visits over the weekend! Maybe not the best place if you are a delicate little flower but if you like your beer with a healthy dose of noise and friendly banter I definitely recommend a visit. I will certainly be back soon!

Rarely have I seen such a bunch of scholars and sophisticates in one place before debating world events with such a command of the queens english.

Great place to visit & nice and cheap for accomodation & you can barter on the price of a room, but don't plan to take the "other half" here for a romantic break as the rooms are very basic, ideal for groups of lads, stag nites etc. Having visited the 2 sister pubs in Benidorm many times before, I knew that this place is a big loyalist pub with every single Rangers game shown live, but it's not "in yer face" stuff and there are dozens of other different teams shirt's hang from the ceiling (bar a certain green & white one !) The bars are basic, ripped seats and pool tables in need of repair etc,but the beer is ok, average beer at average prices, and the double house whiskey great @ 2.20. But the staff are friendly and some of the locals are interesting, to say the least, but keep away if you have a fear of parrots landing on your shoulder and chewing on your clothes !

Brilliant if You are a Rangers supporter (which in My view is only sensible), beer cheap, atmosphere very good landlord/lady super people, all round a must pub to visit while in Scarborough

Different....although not my cup of tea.....it may appeal to to some disfunctional rejects who have an alchoholic disfunction and a strange view with politics/religion/cleanliness/beer taste/aroma/parrots and other seaside attire!!!

Different. I did notice the sectarian stuff on the walls, but then i really dont give a flying monkey about things like that, as i know i just pop in to try a beer. You can go to whole swathes of places in Brum that are Irish themed pubs and happily show it, so if thats what the owners want to do, thats their choice, they live with the business decision.

Different is the parrot, who sits in a non-sectarian way, on his perch, unpaid

What i was in turmoil about was the painful strains offered by the karaoke singers, under the guise of popular music. Dulled for just a short period by half of Cameron's Smooth, which again was different to the other pubs, i actually thought it was the parrot that was singing, until he asked me to leave for my insulting behaviour.

Overall verdict - different!

Whichever sectarian persuasion or football club you support you will have to wipe your feet when you exit this hole.

I am both a Protestant and a Glasgow Rangers person, I also have the honor to belong to related organisations, and am proud to use The Golden Last Public House in Scarborough and also in Benedorm Spain I have found that all their bars cater for people with a simelar beliefe to ourselves, although I have never seen any people with a different view to myself being treated with disresapect

fantastic pub both ian and liv are both great people to talk to. I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute spent in the pub spot on.Ps it does help if you support the teddy bears

We called in again today, met Ian & Liv found them both friendly & welcoming, mind You it does help if You are a Rangers supporter (which I am) it is refreshing to be able to talk to someone who is not bound by political correctness and if You are offended by Britishness (and Norwegians) nobody is forcing You to go in.I really find it refreshing in todays political climate. Cheers

Heard plenty about this place and seen it on previous visits.Decided to give a try.Certainly not as bad as has been painted. As my girlfriend is a Catholic and favours the green half of the Glasgow bigots(although not a supporter!)We questioned the pubs sectarian aspect to the the young girl behind the bar regarding the "problems" it could cause,I was told that there has been no fighting there for 6 years?Hard to believe! But she/we certainly never felt intimidated in anyway as the pub was fairly quiet.Prices and beer were fine.possibly will return next time in Scarborough, certainly been in worse pubs.Doubt if i would try the bedrooms mind!

This is a really good pub but I would stress it's for Glasgow Rangers supporters and Orangemen/Ulster Unionists and Protestants. I enjoyed the ambiance but if you support Celtic or "kick with the left foot" then walk on by.

Pub with plenty of character. Very friendly staff & very popular with Scottish. Beer quite cheap & very good. Pool table & lots of sports shown here.

Have stopped here & rooms + Breakfast much better than we expected.

Should even be on the site. DSS hostel masquerading as a pub. awful punters and a secterian atmosphere with flags aplenty. AVOID!
