WOW, loved this pub, came across it by accident as saw it from the bus when returning to campsite after a day of drinking in Weston, luckily the bus stopped outside so we got off and went in the pub. This is a locals pub but we were made to feel welcome, the beer was great ended up staying until fairly late. Sadly got lost in the country lanes afterwards, walked around for hours in the pitch dark, but that's another story

Great pub, worth a visit. Food is all home made (other than fried cod), even the chips, great value, good price for decent wine. Landlord a down-to-earth Brummy, very welcoming, especially to our dog who got her own biscuit! We will be back with friends at Easter, so see you all there!

FANTASTIC NIGHT - IGNORE ANY REVIEW OVER SIX MONTHS OLD. We were invited to a party here on Saturday night and you can't help but to read previous reviews so were a little dubious. The pub has recently changed management, and is now a good friendly pub. Service was excellent, they could not have been better, tried to accommodate us however they could with nothing being too much trouble. Their kitchen is still under refurbishment, (although should be fully functional in July I think they said), so the landlord allowed us to bring our own food in. Good variety of drinks at reasonable prices, and a very friendly and cheerful atmosphere. We will definitely be returning in the very near future, and can't wait until they start doing food themselves. - Could quite easily become our new favourite.

Disappointing to see old reviews stating how awful this pub used to be. Popped into the New Inn whilst visiting from Bath as noticed the sign stating that it was 'Under New Management'. Staff were lovely and welcoming and I can confirm that the beer tasted great! A lot of variety to chose from including Butcome and Rare Breed. I was also informed by the bar staff that they are in process of refurbishing the kitchen and tea rooms, so I look forward to visitng again to try some of the food and other delights they have on offer once the tea rooms are open.

Not a lot in the way of decent pubs in this part of the world! An abortive search for a long gone pub called the Long John Silver which no local under the age of 70 hads heard of led us the The Commodore at the end of Sand Bay - that looked truly grim! Walk along the road behind the hospital and you come acrosss the New Inn which is under new management according to a sign in the window. 7 of us aged 19 to 80 received a warm welcome after a long walk around the headland - we had 2 spaniels with us, water and a welcome was provided for them too. Both Butcombe ales we tried were well kept and tasty, no complaints either from the lager, cider and wine drinkers in our number. No food alas, but the friendly young man behind the bar explained that the kitchen is currently beiung refurbished so fingers crossed. Crisps, nuts and scratchings had to be enough to fortify us for the walk back to our accomosdation.

Well worth trying for the beer, we will be back to try the food next time we are down this way.

Shabby Rough Pub

Bad Beer: There was only 1 person in the pub and the pint I had tasted stale. The rough Italian barman who served me was also pretty drunk, so is probably an alcoholic.

Just wish I had read these other reviews first. They all appear to be true.

A local village pub you would NOT want to visit

Shabby, rough locals, bad beer, bad/rough staff

Don't like out-of-towners

Not a family friendly pub or a place to bring the Wife or GF

Recap:

If you want to visit a shabby, rundown, rough village pub with bad beer and staff then this is ideal

Recommendations:

Try the Commodore in Kewstoke or go into Weston-Super-Mare for better pubs and restaurants.

A neighbourhood pub which is probably fine if you are a regular, less so if you're a visitor like me. Not too bad but a bit basic and if you're looking for prettier country pubs in north Somerset, I'm sure there are plenty. It might have been my imagination but I thought the Butcombe was a bit stale.

Seems to me that a lot of posts about this place are missing.
I remember going there last year and the year before, and posting on one of those occasions, if not both.
I also remember meeting the ubiquitous Final arbiter there, and I'm sure he posted too.
Both my posts and his were favourable as I recall.

TERRIBLE PUB !!! RUDE STAFF, FLAT BEER !!. Ordered two bitters from here. Both arrived completely flat. When asked for another, the barman attitude completely changed. He became very rude and obnoxious. I then asked to try one of the other beers and was told "you cannot do that in this pub". Overall very rude person to deal with. The worst attitude i have ever experienced.

Never again would i visit this pub. There was only 1 local couple in the pub at the time and i wonder why !!

Also it's one of them pubs where they dont like out of town or non local people.

Overall: Bad flat beer, rude bar staff, rude to non local people.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!! VERY ROUGH. HOPE THEY GO BUST !!

visited on 30.6.10. with wife & kids. Food & staff good & very helpful. Not the sort of place i would take wife for quiet meal, too many single lads, makes the ladies feel uneasy. not really a family pub but has the facilites to be be one.

Sadly very quiet i hope this stays open longer than i imagine it will, the service from the landlord as reasonably friendly and the pint of Doom was tiptop, 6/10

Typical "spit & sawdust" pub serving a good pint of Doombar amongst others and stocking local cider. Hold quiz nights every two weeks on a Sunday night

A very ugly and very shabby village pub, with a rough but fairly friendly local crowd.
