please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

New owners have completely made this pub! They have cleaned every inch of it, new furniture has been put in and the lines are all cleaned regularly for a change! They have live music every weekend, comedy nights and DJS throughout the month and are now serving food all day. I wouldnt hesitate to reccomend to anyone

Very loud music, atmosphere geared towards younger/hardcore people. Couple of decent beers but won't be going back. Not that comfortable

Beer was nice, atmosphere was OK, toilets stunk to high heaven.

If you have ever been to this pub, you know what to expect.
Nothing ever has, or ever will change within these student-infested walls. Food is served. And beer.
That really is all you need to know.

Oh, and there are seats.

another great tuesday night at the Tart. quiz night great atmosphere, they now serve scrumpy the only pub in basingstoke alongside Pride and Hobgoblin. tried the Black Rock Grill ribeye and it was stunning at 8.95 has to be the best seats in b/stoke. Its a great old fashioned pub with friendly locals..

Maybe we were unlucky but we arrived during a 21st birthday party so the music was ear-splittingly loud. In truth there wasn't much to recommend the place anyway: one cask ale that tasted very average and a food menu that was about double the price of the nearby Maidenhead Arms (Wetherspoon).

In here on a Thursday - was fairly quiet - but certainly not dead.
forty-niner and Timothy Taylor Landlord (plus another one) were on tap

Bit of a strange one this, opposite the police station and council offices it looks like a good old fashioned boozer in a good solid interesting old building, decor traditional but a bit tatty. A few things send it downhill, first the decent beer was sold out on my last visit, then there is the overbearing carvery, the tables groaning under the weight of condiments when no food is on sale, the slightly weird looking customers, (myself included I suppose). Of course it's very much better than many pubs in Basingstoke but ..... Best summed up as - lots of potential but a shame about the lack of effort.

Really quite surprised by how much I liked this place.

Definitely a younger persons boozer (average age 21!) but with a really good atmosphere and no Chavs or Pikeys to be seen. My pint of Pride was good, and pleased to note a lot of the kids were drinking it too. Also a bit cheaper than surrounding outlets.

Needs a lick of paint and some basic maintenance, but otherwise a good place to have a pint. Lots of atmosphere.

Apart from my local this is one of my favourite pubs in B'stoke. Its a traditional pub inside and out. Nice locals. And the food is exceptional value for money. Yes it maybe a 'student' pub but all are made welcome. A place you'd be proud to call your local

I totally disagree with the two anonymous comments below - it is not full of freaks, in fact the people there are very friendly. Secondly, it is not a s*** hole, it is quite well decorated (traditional) and as said, Kurt has done a good job here for some years now. As said, if you don't like it, don't go in.

As a regular I cannot really be impartial, so what!!
I love this pub because I can go in at any tine on any day and get a good welcome. Rarely any trouble and everyone, goths, suits and "townies" get along and there is no problem. Well done Kurt for making the White Hart a great pub!

They seem to quite keen on Hobgoblin here. Don't know why since it's brewed by Wychwood but there you go! Seems like a good place for a pint and a paper, also a quiz here but they could be a bit more clear about when it stsrts

I was there myself yesterday (20/6)and enjoyed myself with a nice pint of bitter and a very well priced menu (big burger and big plate of chips and salad - 2.55). Also the 'Who wants to be a millionaire' caused excitement too. Nice old pub, and friendly atmos.

Known for some time as a "students' pub" I have tended to avoid The White Hart (being, well, rather older than most students). However, I had occasion to call in a week or so ago and was pleasantly surprised. It's still a student pub but not exclusively so. The licensee is keen to encourage his market for real ale and always has Hobgoblin on sale. When I visited he was also selling Evan Evans Best Bitter from Wales - a beer that is rare, if not unheard of, in Basingstoke. All credit to him; I shall be visiting the pub again.
