This pub is now closed. There was a bloke changing the locks when I called there yesterday. It may reopen but there were pub chain banners being displayed. Be warned!

More restaurant than pub, there is a small bar but you wouldn't go there for an evening's drinking. Menu was expensive but the food was very good (there's a special 'roasts' type menu on Sundays). On pump was Harveys Sussex and Bath ales 'Gem', a beer I've not had before but it turned out to be rather nice.

We arrived mob-handed, 10 cyclists from the Central London CTC, at 1 o'clock on a Sunday. Though we had not booked as we do normally for our lunch stop, we could not have been accommodated with greater civility. A big log fire was burning brightly, and the food was pretty good, not cheap but nowhere in this area is. Very welcoming and thoroughly recommended.

Had lunch here with three friends for a Birthday celebration and was surprised at other comments (which nearly put us off going) New owners have made great improvements to the pub fabric and the dining. Food was very good indeed with a good selection of wines, the salmon fusilli was amongst the best I have ever had. the service was good if a little slow but then we were on a time limit to visit a local historic house and when we asked for coffee to come a little quicker it did. Well worth a visit.

We recently ate in the pub's restaurant to celebrate my Wife's Birthday. We will not be returning!

The food was overpriced for what it was. The potato skin starter was ONE HALF of a potato skin!
The food didn't live up to its description (bland tasting), and mine was only just warm enough to prevent a complaint.
They got one person's food order wrong, so she had to site there whilst everyone else ate.

To be fair, some of the food was good, but that should be the case for all of it.

We were the only people there on a Fiday evening. The staff could have at least attempted to help create a party atmosphere. If they had lit the log fire on this cold evening it would have helped.

As it was a Birthday, no one wanted to spoil the event (further) by complaining.

All in all a very disappointing evening.

A strange one, I don't think it's changed much since the 80s. Glass underfloor fishtank, when did you last see one of those? Very grandly laid up dining room, all starched linen and three glasses per place setting and the bar similarly laid up with white cloths on every table. So not rally a pub in the accepted sence thought the Harvey's was OK.

Recently visited this pub, I have visited this pub various time over the years and with generally good experience. The location of this pub is very good if you like country pubs and are happy not to drink of have someone else teetotal. I eat out 3-4 time a week both here in the UK and aboard, I am also a competent chief and consider myself educated in food

The choice of beers is OK but not CAMRA moment. The inside of the pub is nicely laid out with a separate bar and restaurant, with some attention to detail.

I am a foody sort of person and the menu price in my opinion is very expensive (main couse 10-17), the menu is like taking a step back in time of the 70-80s, Galoping Gourmet rich and over pompous, the choice of ingredients of very poor quality.

The food we had was very over cooked, tasteless and I chose to make my feeling known to the Land lord and land lady. I was confronted with hostility and generally felt they were not interested and told to F***** off. Which I did, unfortunately I did pay. Also one of the lads in the bar also decided to have a go with abuse too.

In summary, good somewhere else save yourself the disappointment.

A party of 10 of use went for birthday meal on Saturday night. Lovely decor and food well presented but all meals were overcooked and dry (medium rare steak was well done and fish - sea bass and salmon was dry). The starter of scallops was overcooked and the pork belly was horribly fatty.

We didn't complain at the time as it was a friends birthday and we didn't want to make a scene but 3 of us very politely told the landlady separately when we had finished our meal that the food was overcooked and dry and she might want to tell the chef to perhaps turn down the heat. Instead of an apology we got told that there was nothing wrong with the food, it wasnt dry at all and that if we weren't happy we should have complained at the time. Unfortunately not once throughout the entire meal did any of the waiting staff ask if everything was OK or how our meal was - even though there were only 3 tables in the restaurant the entire night.

On of my friends asked to have chips instead (NOT as well as) of mash potatoes and was charged an extra 3.50. When she queried the charge she was told that chips were more expensive than mash! She only received 4 chips which equates to 87p a chip! My husband ordered an Irish coffee and was charged 9.50.

No apology was made for the dry food, and not even an offer of complimentary coffees or a discount to come again and hopefully have a better meal. Instead we given agro by the management for daring to complain and ripped off on the bill.

For a restaurant under new management trying to establish a good reputation and encourage new local clientele they are not doing a very good job. We will certainly not be going back again

Recently stayed in the White Horse Inn at Holtye. Dinner can be ordered until 9 at night and was very nice. Breakfast was, too. Breakfast has fixed menu but can be altered if you're a vegatarian like me. The bed was rather small for my wife and I. Very pleasant surroundings. Road outside can be a tadge loud depending on the amount of traffic and if you have your room at the front. Owners and their staff very friendly. Pub has a traditional air about it. I thoroughly recommend.
