Sandford Hotel, Sandfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Turned up at 19:00 on a Sun night, with 11 adults and 4 children. Made very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. 11 different meals and all served quickly and good size portions including some specially cooked to order. Doom Bar was main ale and was lovely. Landlady and staff were fantastic. Give this place a try!!

Visited the pub many times and over the last six months the atmosphere of the place has lifted with the pets corner and the play ground and wide variety of menu its got a bit for everyone they have two really cute piglets and about fifteen baby rabbits it is an amazing place for families to just sit back and just relax with an in closed back garden and with the food of very high standards I will be returning. Again and again

All I can say is that I couldn't have been there the same Sunday as ANNIE12! We went with visiting friends to the Sandford for a carvery. The roast was 'just like mum makes!' The pub was very busy, yet the standard was good, not an easy thing for any chef to guage! And good value - especially comparing it to other pubs offering the same type of meal. We will visit again.I believe that the pub has had a change over of chefs recently, perhaps the last one was cooking when Annie visited?

I've lived in Wareham for 25 years and have never been to the Sandford Hotel before last night. What have I been missing. A lovely friendly pub, nothing is too much for the staff. A well balance menu with additional 'specials' board and an entensive wine list at reasonable prices. We had a lovely meal with friends, everything freshly cooked by a chef who was happy to please my difficult husband who requested 'blue' steak with the edging fat well done! And even after the kitchen had closed for the evening, and my husband decided that he really couldn't go without the homemade crumble and custard, the chef was happy to cook him one. The waiting staff were attentive but not in your face. Good value for money. Will definately be going back soon.

We had a very nice evening last night. The food was excellent the staff friendly. The chef kept popping out to see us we could not fault any of the meals we had and we were a table of 6, There was a quiz going on in another room so clearly the pub is doing well. We were very happy with everything thank you all

The Sandford is friendly, relaxed and inviting public house with excellent staff and the food is true to form, my husband and I have a 9 year old son and we have never had a bad experience at the pub. Jo and Chloe are fantastic hosts and we would recommend this public house to all, both couples and families alike. The play area at the back is safe and clean and the menu for children is fresh home cooked solid food. Try it see what you think I don't think you will be dissapointed with any aspect. In a day of modern glass stainless steel and NO CHILDREN rules it is nice to have a true british pub with its wooden beams and welcoming bar staff. Rating 10/10 from The Macdonald family,

Popped in the other day and found it peaceful. New tenants, apparently, who've spent a lot of money redecorating the pub. Previously I visited the pub about a year ago and vowed never to go in there again. BUT !!! What a change. As I said, peaceful - not quiet in the lack of customers point of view. Real ale was pretty good. Bar staff were friendly lads and a rather nice lady with viluptuous hair. Saw the chef scuttling about - thought she was a young lad a first, but looking again saw she was a woman - and the fruits of her labours. Mmmmmmm - might eat there next time. Two steaks & a bottle of wine for 15 quid? I can't imagine how they do that unless it's a Tesco-style loss leader. Might try it out. My only real criticism about the pub was the general funereal black corporate-style worn by the male bar staff. What is it about so many pubs these days that everyone has to look as if they've just come away from a conference of funeral directors ! ! !! ! ? Please, please, please get rid of this awful style of garb. Pubs are supposed to be jolly, not depressing and wearing of black all the time just instils a suicidal feeling. That having been said, I'd like to congratulate the new owners/tenants on the transformation of this pub. All power to your elbow, and mine when I go back for a beer, for looking at the potential of this pub. You're in a good position, and if you don't become greedy like the majority of your pub competitors in the Purbeck area (Duke of Wellinton - Wareham excluded from this description as it's one of the best in the area) you'll do really well as word gets around.

In need of modernisation, the pub lacked atmosphere (and customers) when I visited on a Saturday lunch time. Staff friendly enough. Real ale (2 pumps on) acceptable but had to ask for my beer to be topped up. Food menu not inspiring but tasted OK. Lots of potential as the pub is large, has a sizable car park and with a child friendly garden, could attract passing trade on the main route to Swanage.
