user reviews of the Rainbow, Lewes

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Food bland and over priced, the guy behind the bar was "The Big I AM" with his leg up on the shelf behind the bar. I wanted to take my wife out for a nice meal and had been past many times. What a mistake!! the food was so overpriced, believe me i dont mind paying for good quality food however the place was so up its own backside and the food was so bland. You are frowned apon if you just come in for a drink and since talking to some of my friends, they have been suprised that we had even been there, as they have all found it awful for a long time. Is it a pub or a restaurant??? no one knows and i feel "The Rainbow" dont do either one very well.

Currently closed and being refurbished and rebranded as "Lincoln's".

if the staff here are solely being employed to try and intimidate their customers, then you can't really fault them.
all in all, i found the rainbow inn to be pretty lifeless and bland.
toilets possibly hadn't seen a mop for years and the music was enough to make you gag.
i will not be rushing back.

This pub is open again, but I haven't tried it. It looks much the same as before.

Word is that the "twits" have gone to the Crown. You need a pub like this in a town so that they have got somewhere to go. For that reason, I hope it reopens. Better still, it could reopen as a decent pub! Once converted to a restaurant or offices or flats, you have lost it for ever.

currently closed : long may it stay closed !! where ahve all the twits gone ?

Been here many times lunch time. Burger normally excellent, and chicken/bacon/avacardo panni has always been amazine (doesn't sound much, but always so well cooked).

However last time I was there it wasn't so good and the menu had been cut back.

what a horrible bunch of customers ! went there friday with the wife for a beer before restaurant , some 16 yr child asked me who i was looking at , told him in no uncertain terms who HE was looking at ! ps im 6ft 4 and 19 stone and the most passive person ever , felt really unwelcome , waited for 15mins to get drink too , not recomended unless your an alco pop swigging school boy !

Dull Dull Dirty Dishwater. This pub is an excellent place to go of a weekend for those young people that like to listen to good music and have some FUN! If you like dull boring pubs go to the Royal Oak!

I have heard this pub is to close early in the new year to become yet another Italian restaurant. I would have thought Lewes had enough of those already. Although not one of my favourite pubs, it's a shame to see a pub close.

A nice pub but the locals turns it into a scruffy joint

the raeson the pub got changed was the pub company that own it. fyi the landlady is still the same, she has been off for the last 8 months having a baby, she has come second for two years running in the lewes in bloom comp, for the roof terrace, the back stairs were unsafe for customers to use. i think that the staff are great, how many other bars do you know where you can dance on the tables.they try thier best. i would like to see you have ago. the customers have changed yes,but the bar has bills to pay and at the weekend needs to take money.

What are you on about you lot. You haven't even got the excuse of writing your reviews before it changed hands. The current owners have ruined what was the moat popular pub amongst young people in Lewes. Previously, it was split into two bars, both of which were appealing and had good atmospheres. Now, they have ripped out the inside and tried to make it into a trendy student bar. Inside there is no character, a tiny bar which you never getr served at, a pole for poledancers (in Lewes?) and a hideously badly designed stair case leading to the toilets. On a busy night there is gridlock on the stairs and only 2 urinals if and when you do make it to the toilets. Ridiculous. The roof terrace is dirty and uninviting and they have closed off the attractive and historic stair case at the back which used to lead to the roof terrace. this change in style has attracted asll the chavs from surrounding places, and has only served to create fighting and brawling amongst prepubescant looking townies. If you are unfortunate enough to be in here on a Friday or Sat night, then don't be surprised to have some little shit start on you for no reason. Finally, this pub has actually ruined the whole atmosphere in Lewes at the weekend, as people spill out at closing time and fights outside Charcoal Grill.

Christ on a Bike!! Jordon & Peter Andre!!!
Hells Teeth it doesn't get much worse.
Mind you with all the Bonfire Society's in Lewes, I think we could come to some sort of an arrangement.

Really interesting menu and probably the best pub food in the area. At night good djs music and atmosphere. When in last, Jordon and Peter Andre were there.
