please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A dreadful place with tired beer. Ideal for the local inbreds.
flashharry1965 - 3 Aug 2010 13:23
the c & a in the top 40?, now there is a fiddle going on, it's average but no better than that
littlecon - 23 Jun 2010 08:24
Got to be the best place for watching footie loving the c&a england t-shirts and the pub looks really good inside and out we're loving it
BigK - 14 Jun 2010 22:32
Attended two really good parties over the holiday, pyjama party on the 28th and a great News Years Eve bash which was brilliant value at a fiver entrance which included Disco till late and a buffet. Well done!
chainsmoker - 4 Jan 2009 13:30
Landlords made a big effort and it looks really nice inside could do with a lick of paint on the exterior but always guaranteed a good welcome and a great pint
hickory334 - 17 Dec 2008 14:25
It's had a few celebs in lately saw Helen Chamberlain & James Wade in there when Woking played Torquay a few weeks back and the panto cast have been in there most lunchtimes, although I havent seen them myself agree with chain smoker the smoking shelter is the dogs makes me want to start smoking again :-)
hermiek - 15 Dec 2008 01:54
Apparently was done up a while ago but i hadnt visited for a while smarter than it was and like i said nice shelter for us smokers
chainsmoker - 14 Dec 2008 21:24
Look forward to seeing what has happened with the refurb.
GuildfordAndWoking - 13 Dec 2008 19:08
Has recently had a bit of a refurb. Got the best smoking shelter I've ever come across.
chainsmoker - 9 Dec 2008 15:52
Apparently famous people come here. Bit run-down on previous visit but ok Pride and Youngs.
TheSurreyPubMan - 4 Dec 2008 16:21
You can't please everybody all of the time but I think this pub is the best in the area, friday nights down the crown are legendary
BigK - 3 Aug 2008 10:03
Massively overrated. See prev review, & I think 5 was pretty generous.
trainman - 31 Jul 2008 23:45
I confess to be a local - but I love this pub - the food is excellent and very resonably priced and it is the friendliest pub in the area it must be doing something right to be so popular and busy I shall continue to sing it's praises
hitman - 26 Jul 2008 11:20
I'm not a local, but I quite like it here. The friendly local atmosphere must be why its rated so highly as the beer range isnt that exciting. Pride and Youngs. Haven't tried the Thai food.
TheSensiblePubReviewer - 26 Jul 2008 08:33
WARNING, THIS PUB IS NOT AS IT SEEMS, THE COMMENTS POSTED ARE FALSE. THEY HAVE BEEN DONE BY THE STAFF AT THIS PUB AND LOCALS. THIS PUB IS NOT WELCOMING, THE BEER IS ALRIGHT, THE FOOD IS RUBBISH. STEER CLEAR, FALSE ADVIRTISING ALERT.
oldepubpro - 26 Jul 2008 07:51
I dont frequent many pubs so can only review the ones I go to! This is imo a great local pub always delivers (apart from the grumpy barmaid who I haven't seen for ages - thankfully!)Early evenings is a bonus as beers only 2.50 a pint so usually pop in on my way home.
hermiek - 22 Jul 2008 20:15
this is a nice place to come for a drink i came here cos it had such good reviews and i wasnt disappointed warm welcome from the landlady and the beer was very well kept will come again
mrraffles - 21 Jul 2008 20:57
Probably, if you are happy drinking in this pub why bother with the others. Atmosphere is always good at weekends and although sometimes a bit quiet midweek evenings its never short of characters.
Current landlord/lady have been in place for some years now and offer is consistent, others have changed hands frequently and you never know what to expect or for how long.
Welby - 17 Jul 2008 18:33
Is it me or is there a trend running through some of the reviewers on this pub.ie signing up making a couple of comments all great about The Crown and Anchor and not commenting ever again, just a question?
Beersupper - 5 Jul 2008 11:26
Great pub brilliant atmosphere best pub in the village by a long shot
BigK - 24 Jun 2008 11:21
great place to have a party even though it was well busy the staff were still smiling and really friendly the buffet was lovely would definatley recommend this place
goodey - 28 May 2008 23:32
This pub is great the atmosphere for watching the footie games is brilliant, staff friendly & smiley, food superb and very cheap, worth a vist
jamboo - 22 May 2008 12:51
Love this place . Shame about the football team
nofritzy - 7 May 2008 16:31
If carlsberg did barmaids the top shelf on the birds here is second to none, beers always top quality and you can see a big screen from everywhere beers cheap to which is always a bonus
viceman - 27 Mar 2008 18:39
New barmaid in the house. Top totty serving your pint, they are all lovely, its great!
No barman...way to go!
compo55 - 18 Feb 2008 17:21
Although I like this pub on the whole they have one barmaid who is a real miserable cow who it seems doesnt like her job and keeps you waiting while she flirts or reads her paper - avoid staying if shes working easy to spot by her body piercings!
hermiek - 13 Feb 2008 23:02
had 2 partys here over christmas witch were wkd nice bar staff one of them has the best boobs in woking good atmosfere
groggy - 5 Jan 2008 14:54
Top pub looking good since the refurb, best party nights in the area, cheap food & beer is cheapest in village have a happy hour from 5-7!
anonymous - 29 Nov 2007 17:36
Always busy, great atmosphere good for a party. staff friendly best place locally to watch footie, agree that it has limited selection of real ales but you cant have everything - looking good since refurb
hermiek - 27 Nov 2007 23:15
This used to be a lovely pub but now seems to be wearing. No great selection of ale in fact only one real ale. Restuarnt area has been reduced and food not up to the quailty it once was. Friendly and helpful staff although a Friday lunchtime they could do with more as waiting for more than 10 mins to be served is a bit galling.
DOBBINHWCC - 16 Nov 2007 09:30
Just two handpumps, Pride & Youngs Ordinary. The Pride was off ystdy lunch and the latter was ok but simply tastes, well to me, as it says on the tin. The torturous 71 bus route from Woking eventually dropped me outside (361/362 apparently more direct) but then the welcome at the bar was admitedly as warm & hospitable as I can recall and, since everyone seemed to know each other, Ill bet its jumping when busy.
Ultimately though, whilst it may make a decent local if you can cope with an uninspiring beer selection, I left after a single pint, rather disappointed with a pub which has appeared in the top40 for so long. Friendly staff deserve praise but the pub gets, at best, a 5/10 from me.
trainman - 7 Nov 2007 11:37
Great pub for watching the footie, being done up at the moment, they have a brill sunday football team, ex woking legend John Cassidy plays for them, they do a free buffet sunday lunchtimes too. Bar staff are very friendly definately worth a visit
HOTSHOT - 17 Sep 2007 15:25
Played darts here last week with the visiting team, good atmosphere and the complimentary food was excellent. Thanks.
Bring on next summer league.
snapp - 29 Aug 2007 20:35
Aleman,
No need for condoms, I'm sure I saw a cut price vasectomy on the menu, especially when you got too close to the barmaid lol.
Surgeon - 26 Jun 2007 15:26
Mainly use this pub at lunchtimes food is superb value for money and very quickly served which is great when your on limited lunch hour. The recently re-furbed garden area is impressive and a delight on a bright day.
Hoffman - 21 Jun 2007 17:33
Closing time tends to vary here according to how busy it is, which is fair enough. One slight drawback, they don't sell condoms so try the White Hart down the road
aleman - 20 Jun 2007 07:15
Wkd pub, very friendly great place to watch footie brill atmosphere, great food very cheap
Biz - 27 May 2007 20:55
Congratulations on your cup final win, best footie pub in the area by far. Great celebrations, thanks for your hospitality
jayc - 15 May 2007 22:54
This is a pretty decent pub although if you're not a regular, you might feel a bit intimidated walking into it at first. Don't let this put you off though. This is certainly a football orientated pub - most games on plenty of screens and plenty of football fans in there. Also, check out the rack on one of the bar maids. it's worth visiting just for that!
guiness1 - 26 Apr 2007 17:08
Just moved into the area, used this pub as it has good reviews on this site, not dissappointed, the food is great, and good value the beer was perfectly chilled, locals friendly and the staff efficient, definiately going to be our local! Looking forward to experiencing a party night.
colin27 - 27 Feb 2007 19:51
Visited last Saturday for a party and we had a great time, got a lovely welcome and nothing was too much trouble, very busy and it was full of old faces from yesteryears stock car racing. Brilliant, Well done!
superstox - 26 Feb 2007 17:15
This pub is my local, it's the best place to watch footie, the shots are wkd. It does a brilliant party night, and the quiz night is great fun, free food too!
Supersupper - 21 Feb 2007 21:35
Went here on Wednesday to watch the footie, great game, great beer, and top bar service, nothing was too much trouble for the two girls who were working, will definately return.
hickory334 - 2 Feb 2007 18:16
Thanks for all your lovely comments, of course I LOVE this pub, but then I am probably biased as I work here. We have some wkd party nights planned, so get out your dancing shoes and hotfoot it down to the Crown!
candygirl07 - 31 Jan 2007 10:53
Pub could do with a bit of tlc but beer is brill, kept to perfection. Staff are friendly & attentive, I use it mainly lunchtimes, food always served quickly which is perfect when you're under time pressure.
lurker - 31 Jan 2007 10:38
Suprised by the good reviews as only went once to watch football, but it was full of people you would not like to meet on a dark night, and who amde strangers feel about as welcome as nunshoot in a nunnery
Bazmoan - 30 Jan 2007 17:55
If you fancy a giggle and a friendly, sometimes noisy atmosphere then the Crown is your cup of tea. Great owners, Sunday side and place to be on a Sunday afternoon. This pub also boasts a great spot of Thai dining with a restaurant on the side.
Dukey - 29 Jan 2007 18:31
Top footie pub, great atmosphere, agree that it could do with a bit of decoration, but it more than makes up for that with the warm welcome, great Thai food, free buffet on a Sunday, well worth a visit
NOMADS - 27 Jan 2007 13:45
What this pub lacks in decor it more than makes up for in atmosphere. Great to watch footie no matter what team you follow & your always made welcome. The Landlord is a nice fella, can be quite often found having a social drink with his Punters!! Good Sunday Football team if you fancy watching a game on a crisp Sunday Morning. All in all a super place where you can meet new friends.
Bigkeithy - 9 Jan 2007 11:39
The best party nights are at the C&A, great bunch of lads, probably the best Sunday Footie team ever! Banter is great, staff mad but lovely, and the calendar is second to none. I think the Landlady mentioned an up-coming pub-idol contest so that should be good for a laugh
hitman - 9 Jan 2007 10:03
Not able to visit as often as I used to since my job was relocated.Attended on Friday after Xmas and the live band were awesome, this prompted a return trip for the new year party which as usual was great. Plenty of food and entertainment for 5 a head
Welby - 5 Jan 2007 11:25
Only moved into Old Woking in early November, looked on this site for local pubs. Not dissapointed, the Crown and Anchor is definitely a fun pub. The building isn't very up to date, but its the people that make it. Had the best party I've attended on New years Eve my girlfriend and I felt very welcome
JonPearce - 4 Jan 2007 22:49
This is by far the best pub in Woking, great atmosphere, some excellent parties and the hardest working landlady and barstaff that you will ever meet, how they come up with some of the stuff they organize is amazing.

good food good beer and great football team.

best days are sunday afternoons if you like a lively beer
skeg - 4 Jan 2007 17:45
Nice pub, good fun!
garyatthebar - 3 Jan 2007 15:37
Agree aleman that the pub looks a bit drab from the outside, but once you are in, there is a great welcome, friendly staff and good atmosphere. The Landlady does come up with some unique fun events, seem to recall a 'Mr Crown & Anchor' contest last year and I attended the pyjama party which was great fun. New Years Eve was great value too with a disco and buffet for a fiver, it was packed, and the DJ was brilliant with his banter and sing-a-long.
drinkingman - 2 Jan 2007 16:58
Rather run down pub, but inside there is plenty of entertainment. London Pride and Youngs are the main ales they sell. Has as many as four tv screens, very keen on showing football - shows other stuff also. Pretty entertaining crowd in here, you'll probably have a laugh at some of the conversations which go on. Unless you can't stand some of the rude language.

Also a restaurant one side of the pub. Has two sets of toilets. Also meant to be holding a pyjama party soon. Quite bizarre but also unique
aleman - 22 Dec 2006 02:03
Been my village local for years. Seen many changes of landlords, and although times have to change with the demands to keep business' going, the current management have made changes, to make the pub more popular to a wider range of clientele, but still succeeded in keeping the pub friendly and full of community spirit.
Serves a decent pint too.
villageidiot - 1 Sep 2006 16:02
Tis a great pub for sure. Maybe a touch old fashioned in decor, compared to most of today's more modern cosmopolitan type boozers.
But there is always a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere. Food is good and great value for money.
Can get a bit boisterous when all the football lads are in, but you can get away from that as there is seperate restuarant area.
Leisureman - 1 Sep 2006 15:17
There is no other place to watch the footie. Shows all the pay per view games.
Sunday's are great.
theplayer - 30 Aug 2006 17:31
Not feeling too good this morning after the most wkd party night at the C&A. Totally awesome brilliant atmosphere, you guys rock loving that crazy DJ. Thanks so much had gr8 time.
Footballislife - 28 Aug 2006 10:06
Love this place! It's the best. Staff mad but in a good way. (Barmaids good looking too). Footie brill TV's everywhere. These people know how to make you feel welcome. Check it out for yourself
nomadboy11 - 27 Aug 2006 15:18
I Love this pub! Kirsty is wkd, always up for a laugh, & the other bar staff are well nice. Beer's good, brill atmosphere especially for the footie games. Food's cheap and portions are big. Best thing about Old Woking is def this pub.
HowieGee - 18 Aug 2006 17:22
'noclaws' sure you were in this pub. No chavs in the Crown&Anchor and they certainly don't sell Fosters!
Watched all the England games in there, no sign of any trouble. was made up too as I met ex-Spurs star David Howells in there, apparently he now plays for Crown & Anchor Sunday football team! He loves the place. Good friendly atmosphere.
anonymous - 7 Jul 2006 14:17
Thank god they've got rid of that dozy miserable barmaid with the vacant expression and annoying laugh, it's a pleasure to drink here again now.
anonymous - 19 Jun 2006 18:37
If you like football - you will love this pub, It has a brilliant atmosphere during the games, the interior is decorated with flags everywhere - my partner and I got free Crown & Anchor England T-shirts and everyone in the pub had them on, everyone was so friendly. I used to only use it lunchtimes but now it's on my evening list too!!!
supersam - 16 Jun 2006 16:05
Watched England's 1st game here - you can see a tv almost from every angle - didn't meet any Chavs? and the pub doesn't serve Fosters either lol!- and I'm not a local, although I work near this pub. Think it has a great atmosphere and the locals are all very tame and friendly too, the staff are really nice as well maybe noclaws visited on a bad day haha
sexylegs - 13 Jun 2006 17:51
Assuming these reviews are all written by Old Woking "locals".

They themselves are a very good reason NOT to visit this pub.

If you want to watch chavs fighting over their Fosters, you'll love it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
noclaws - 13 Jun 2006 12:49
Really friendly place - lovely locals - great bar staff, tv's everywhere perfect for watching footie - and it's dead cheap too!
sexylegs - 20 May 2006 12:34
Best pub in the village by far. You can't beat a Party night at the C&A
Welby - 6 Apr 2006 14:19
Excellent village local, Great friendly atmosphere, one of the few showing live sky sports. Superb Thai and English cuisine available at very reasonable prices. Good quality pint and cheapest in the village.
Family, run and all the staff are 'bubbly' and welcoming, giving the place a really comfortable feeling.
Only down point I could find is the Landlord is a QPR fan!
anonymous - 6 Apr 2006 14:17
Superb! Great atmosphere, friendly staff cheapest pint in the village, only pub in Old Woking showing Sky Sports, and great food too!
BoozyBoy - 6 Oct 2005 20:57
The ONLY pub to visit in Old Woking! Fantastic friendly staff, great beer, super food and a real community spirit.
kevtheman - 18 Feb 2005 15:35
this thai pub is awesome. Am currently starting a campaign to get people down to it. Food is amazing - best thai I've had in England. Pub is a bit questionable but the restauarant is fantastic.
rich - 12 Sep 2003 17:54
Used to do (good) Thai food. Does it still?
Vindaloo - 25 Aug 2003 16:33
