I would echo the previous reviewer and I don't drive a posh car. This had been intended to be our final pub of the day. Luckily, the Red Lion in Heytesbury had been closed. So we were still to return there, as this would have been an extremely disappointing end to the day. The interior is modern with a large open-plan bar. There were a couple of other customers when we arrived. But they soon left. Otter Bitter & Wadworth 6X were the two real ales. But I wouldn't bother.

Gosh - has someone spent money on this place! And what a waste! The countryside may be unspoiled but the "sympathetic modernising" has created a monstrosity far removed from any notion of "village pub". The pretentious menu may suit some people, but after a good walk on the Wiltshire downs this was a big disappointment. The beer was indifferent and there was nowhere comfortable to sit. For posh-car owners only.

Nice local in a lovely village. Reasonable beer selection. Food seemed pricey but can't comment on quality. Inside has been tastefully decorated but without being to gastro. The lunchtime I went there seemed to be plenty of drinkers, so not just a dining pub. Pleasant garden. Worth a visit.

On deciding to take my wife for a weekend break to Longleat on its first day of opening 2011. I searched the internet for a suitable place to stay for the two nights. The Dove seemed to be the ideal location and it did not disappoint. Our friends also stayed for two nights and they were equally impressed. The rooms were excellent and tastefully laid out. The food and drinks were first class and the service of a very high standard. The landlord and landlady were exceptional hosts and every member of staff made all of us feel very special. I would seriously recommend the Dove as a great place to relax and spend long evenings eating and drinking amongst friendly locals and staff. Impressive.

The outside is still very old-wordly but the interior has been tastefully refurbished - it has gone upmarket.
Log fire, lots of little rooms, sunroom. Pleasant seating, good beers, friendly staff and attractive menu - if a little expensive (starters avg �7, puds average �5.50).
Pleasant orchard garden.
Worth strolling around the attractive village.

Just visited this pub again......what has happened??? All the atmosphere has gone - no friendly bar staff - dont bother visiting!!!
Not sure about the food, couldnt wait to get out.
What has happened to good old fashioned country pubs with landlords/landladies who cares??
BRING BACK THE PREVIOUS PEOPLE!!!

Visited this pub again - I have been twice before and each time the pub was great, the landlord friendly and the beer excellent. This time the been and welcome were fine, but what have they done to the building?! uPVC everywhere, restaurant-type tables, no atmosphere at all. What a shame - it's OK for a beer if you're passing and the food looked good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Called in for a light lunch on the way back from Fivehead. Had the beef curry. Meat was like a brick, dry and hard. This was my second visit, the baguette on the first being acceptable. Beer selection is good, so no complaints there. So probably OK for drinking, but I'd prefer to eat elsewhere.

stayed at the Dove for a weekend break to Longeat the landlady and landlord where very friendly and the waitesses good at there job.
The food was very good and well priced.
We enjoyed our time there thankyou.

i visited the dove on sunday 6th july 2008 after friends recommended the dove as a loverly relaxed pud with good food i walked in the door with my daughter and her 2 children ages 6 and 9. there was a loverly atmosphere when we walked in. we were greeted by the land lady and land lord. we hadnt booked a table but we were told that wasnt a problem,we were shown to the big black board with all the meal on (starters, mains and fish selection) and also 2 other boards with light meals on. we were shown to our table by one of the loverly, polite and friendly waitresses who then took our food order, we ordered 2 Roast Beef and 2 Roast Chicken. our food came out the Beef was Delisous, cooked perfect with roast potatoes yorkshire pudding and gravy and a choice of 3 vegetables. the children loved there chicken. the waitress cleared our table and gave us the pudding board, the children has ice cream my daughter had baked alaska and i had the lemon cheesecake which was delisous! the presentation on our mains and puddings was loverly a big thanks to the chef for the loverly meal! also a big thanks to the land lord and land lady and the 2 waitresses who made our day out wonderful! we will defenetly be coming back again!

My family had a very unpleasant experience at this pub. The Landlord was very rude and clearly did not like children. There should have been a 'No Children Allowed' sign on the door. I have never been spoken to in a more patronizing and rude manner. We didn't have a chance to try the food as he made it impossible for us to stay.

Great Inn. We found the landlord friendly and hospitable. The suite we stayed in over 2 nights was comfortable and spacious. My daughter had her wedding breakfast at the Inn and the Landlord helped to make her day a special occassion.

Not a nice pub. The food is good, but overpriced, and can be decidedly average. The rooms are OK - but if there are a few people staying, the showers are cold. The landlord is, frankly, unbearable as far as I am concerned. A very unusual man who seems constantly concerned about pointless things. His wife (I presume) is far more pleasant. After an extended stay, rudely suggested that we would "surely be tipping the staff for their excellent service" (which may have been tongue in cheek) and refused to acknowledge the fire risk posed by a bedroom door which could not be unlocked without significant effort. Generally not impressed, though some colleagues have been happy staying there. The wine is good.
