My go to place in Munich. Whether in the beer garden in the summer or in the keller come winter the atmosphere is very Bavarian due to being away from the standard tourist trail somewhat. Augustiner is an outstanding beer and served from wooden barrels here to boot, perfection.

I only popped in here to find a massive beer hall full of tables and equally full of those imbibing on Augustiner beers. By all means check it out but just down the road and an even shorter walk from Hackebrucke station is Augustiner Braustuben. This is a more intimate beer hall attached to the brewery itself and is wonderfully rustic and charactersome. It is much less of a commercial tourist trap than some of the beerhouses in the centre. And very popular with the locals. Some of the beers are served straight from the wood. It gets hectic and noisy in the evenings but I imagine it to be a true Munich/Bavarian beer house experience. Landsberger Strasse 19 across the Hackerbrucke bridge.
I should have given it a separate new entry but I am still awaiting a pub to appear that I entered 10 months ago!!
You can easily combine Augustiner Braustuben and Keller into a crawl. I can't rate ' keller but would easily give 'Braustuben an 8.

This is an amazing place. We were told by someone in the know this was the best beer garden in Munich. It seats up to 5000 people; 2000 table service, 3000 self service. Most of it is outdoors sitting in amongst chestnut trees which is great during the summer. Even going on a Wednesday evening we only just about managed to find a table as we arrived at 8pm. Therefore if you wish to visit without struggling to get a table the trick is to get there earlier as I think loads of people go there after work. The food was quite nice German fayre and the was 6 a litre (if I remember correctly!).

Definately worth a visit if you're in Munich to have a beer garden experience. It's only about a 10-15 minute from the Hauptbahnhof station so quite centrally located. If ever I return to Munich I could well be tempted to return...!

9/10.

Awesome Bar, truly outstanding beers, among the best you'll ever taste.

The pope gets the export (Edelstoff) beer sent to him on a monthly basis for his own consumption.

Archetypal Bavarian beerhouse with excellent food and outstanding beer at a reasonable price. I tried both the Helles and Dunkles and both were of the highest quality (as you'd expect for somewhere that does the second best beer in the World). I'll always come in here when I'm in Munich, at least until I find somewhere better, which may take some time.

Ilove this place. I confess that I hated beer until I was 18: I only drank COke.
Then I went to AugustinerKeller, Arnulfstrasse in Munich, with my brother. He told me to try 1 Augustiner Edelstoff. Just for fun I ordered a beer, and when I saw it was an hald-a-liter glass, I told to my brother: "I get just a try, then you drink the rest." Well, it was absolutely magic to drink that beer and I still remember the laughing face of my brother as he saw that in just one minute, my beer was already over. The first of a long line...
So, every time I go to Munich, I like to visit this place, that remains the best Beergarden of the town with the best beer (and also a fantastic food). Maybe because it's really the best; maybe just because of what happened to me, 18 years ago...

Unlike Albert, I have Augustiner before Andechs in my favourite German beers. Fantastic!!!!!

Augustiner is my second favourite continental beer after Andechs, and this is one of my favourite drinking establishments. The Augustiner Garten is the perfect supping environment. Get yourself a ma of helles, a brez' n and a stecklfisch, plonk yourself down with your mates at one of the hundreds of benches and put the world to rights, in the sun under the chestnut trees. And when they boot you out at midnight-ish, despite maybe a thousand tipsy folk leaving at the same time, there won't be an ounce of British-style violence, nor piles of puke or pools of urine anywhere there shouldn't be. Great stuff... I love the Augustiner. Just pray Munich stays off the UK Stag Weekend list.

Spitting distance from the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), this is one of the best beer gardens in the city. I have only just discovered this site and feel that this place warrants inclusion. Although it is now some 4 years since I was last in Munich, I don't think the place will have changed any. Great beer, excellent food in the cellar, in the evening - you may need to book if it's a large party and (at that time) open until about 3 am at weekends.
