please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went here on a first date (April 30th 2012) with a beautiful lady on a Monday evening after she recommended it.
Having read average reviews was expecting highly priced average food.
Place was busy with friendly non-pushy staff and had a great atmosphere.
Having been very tastefully refurbished and modernised, it really is a great place to go.
Top marks must go to the the interior designer for giving a light and airy but also intimate feel.
Meal for two consisting of shared starter, main course and three drinks was 45
Rated food 7 1/2 out of ten and wine the same very good value.
Would not hesitate to take business clients there and would advise booking judging by how busy it was on a Monday evening.

Really disappointed with the refurbished pub. Well the food that is. I hadn't been since the fire and remember it with good feelings but we went for a lite bite last Saturday and came away completely underwhelmed. The lunch menu is very small and I ended up chosing a Croque Monsieur. On the second mouthful all that I could taste was english mustard. When i asked the waitress to point out english mustard to me on the menu she tried to convince me that Croque Monsieur was always served with it. I remonstrated with her that no self respecting chef would ever serve a Croque Monsieur with english mustard - at least not without letting the customer know what a "treat" he would be in for but I'm sure that it was water off a duck's back.
Shame because with a decent chef it could be quite good.
My wife's food also disappointed but not to the degree that mine did.

Amazing new bedrooms, great food and really nice people.
Beef and Guiness pie 9.95 and really good, with hand cut chips.
A must go.
Watch out, they only take bookings for large tables and they are often very busy at 8 in the evening go at 7.

Lovely.

looks lovely since the rebuild, but my god, the prices... and for so-so food.

Since fire was looking foward to trying the new wellie as alway liked it before however very disappointed with food. Portion size stingy. Prices gone up massively and outragous in my opinion 19 for fish & chips!!! Not worth the money. If prices were 5 a dish cheaper. I'd consider going back but in my opinion the prices is not justlifing the quality you are getting.

This is billed as a gastro-pub, but I have to tell you that it is all restaurant and no pub really. It burnt down in 2009 and has been refurbished - I don't know whether it has opened again as yet. When I used to go there before, the food was very nice indeed and the service was always very good. The price is on the high side, so we would only go there for a birthday treat or something. It has a small patio out back, which is nice on a warm day but only overlooks a car park. On a warm evening though, with the fairy lights on, it is very pretty. I just hope it maintains its good standards when it reopens.

Ignore entirely their booking information online - after coming across all free and easy and refusing bookings, I couldn't get my group in one day as they were, and I quote 'booked out'. I found the guy on the phone really rude and totally inconsistent with their breezy website. Went there once and the food was alright, but not worth the issues of booking. Not impressed.

This is a restaurant without a bar.

normally such great food and service, but returned recently to find not a great menu change and my chicken (14) came luke warm, i asked for it to be reheated and it came very slightly warmer but very dry as from the beginning it had been cut in half, normally service is great but had a very very load person this time, who when we asked questions seemed to advertise the wellington and not answer our question. very much hoping it is a one off as normally its great.

Having not been here for over twenty years, what a shock. I can only agree with the previous three reviews, even though they are fairly old. Excellent food, wine list and friendly efficient staff. Only gripe / concern is that does this still qualify as a pub? I couldn't see an area where you could just walk in off the street for a pint or two. Wouldn't go so far as to say this is the best food in the area, but they are certainly near the top of the Premiership !!!

Good food, good ambience and good service. The specials boards were not complete, so I only saw the Sea Bass on the way out! Plates needed to be hot, really, and they need to get a good booking system sorted. However, a great place to eat, and an excellent wine list - I'd definitely go back and try again.

Fantastic, the atmosphere and food are by far the best in the area. It is not overpriced for the quality. One warning, they do not take bookings, so arrive early to put your name down and then go later that evening- well worth it.
