Excellent pub with friendly and professional staff as well as a great mix of people. Really nice pizza as well and a lot of different events happening.

Gone badly downhill - don't. January 2012 - paid for a 10.20 round with a 20 and 20p to help out - barmaid sees her chance and insists it was a tenner and no change due.

Increasingly what happens there - live just round the corner but have had to stop going.

Shame - used to be great but now just very dodgy. Another once good pub that you should steer clear of. Guess it has to be Jolly Butchers.

cracking pub....shabby chic at its best......though a larger range of ales would be nice..........weekly music events ( my fave would be the monthly Soul Shack night....60s motown/northern soul).....fantastic cheap pizza's.........diverse/interesting clientel....love the place!

The Royal Sovereign is a fab pub with an excellent Pizza bar (serving until 9:30 pm) with a great atmosphere - especially on Green Onion nights (next one Fri 14 June, from 9:30 until 1pm the best in Ska, popular Northern, blues, RnB, 6Ts Soul, Tamla Motown, Latin, Boogaloo, Funk and Jazz to make toes tap and bodies gyrate into dance heaven frenzy. FREE) . Highly recommended

A great addition to the area which is fairly badly served for pubs to be fair. Spent a great evening there with a load of non-regulars and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff and regulars. I live nearby and will be going there a lot more, maybe I'll run into the "best Elvis impersonantor in the whole Country" again.

Good pub - a bit tatty but in a good way. Nice staff, good tunes and some interesting regulars!

Had never been to the Royal Sovereign until recently even though have lived round Stokey all my life. I was expecting a bit of a dive but the place is wicked. Big, old fashioned pub, lots of nice seating areas, pool table, juke box, the friendliest bar staff in Stokey, cheap prices, and a great monthly pub quiz. A garden is underway too so by the summer it will be even better. I have been about 4 times now, weekdays and weekends and there is always agreat friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended

Popped into the Sovereign after hearing that it was under new ownership, and was pleased with what I saw. The area's needed a nice relaxed local for a while, and this should fit the bill. Already drawing punters in (and on a mid week night when I went) once it's had a lick of paint I can see it being very popular. There's a big beer garden on the way too apparently, which'll be good in the summer. One real ale on when I was in (Bass)- if this transformed into Deuchars IPA or T Taylor's Landlord it'd be a 10 from me. But I'm a snobby drinker, so I'm bound to say that...

The Sovereign is under new ownership by two lovely local lads and looks to become a great little boozer! Spent a most excellent Friday there and it was heaving with people from all walks. Great atmosphere! It has a jukebox, pooltable, beergarden and good selection of beers. My new local :)

The Sovereign is a real drinkers pub, frequented by sad miserable alcoholics whose pathetic existences revolve around this place. The beer is acceptable though, the service friendly enough, but there is no food unless you count pork scratchings and economy pork pies and chicken legs on a Sunday. Unlike other pubs in the area you can go there and watch the footy in relative peace. I don't advise turning the TV over whatever maybe on.
