user reviews of the Locomotive, Wellingborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Rather idiosyncratic decoration and a welcoming bank of hand-pumps, with a good turnover of less common beers (e.g. Dunscar Bridge Bombshell and Arkwright's Golden Ale). A small car park and a little out of the town centre on the Finedon & Wellingborough road. Certainly one of the better Northants pubs

I had always heard about the Locomotive as a Real Ale haven but had never been in - despite living in the county for years.
Finally took the plunge and visited it and was very impressed. Great selection off ales on offer, all top quality and well kept.
The atmosphere was fantastic, staff and regulars very friendly and a good time was had.
The decor is a bit eccentric - movie props, trains etc - but that is what makes it a good place to be.
For me it comes second in the "best real ale pubs in Northamptonshire", the Alexandra Arms in Kettering being the first.

STILL only 8.8 on the score board! Can't believe it! And it only seems to be me, Nipley and Ollie that have been there! Wellingborough's finest pub, best location for real ale, and a marvellous atmosphere.

Nine... Count them. NINE hand pumps now and a promise of a micro brewery on site as soon as Steve gets a moment to get it under way.
A travesty that CAMRA don't rate the place more highly and seem to favour Northampton for the awards handed out. Maybe the Northants committee are too lazy to stray too far from their doorstep. If ever there was a Pub Of The Year, it's got to be this one.
Anybody remember what it was like beforre the Elliotts took over? Hateful.
Let's see some awards delivered this year, eh?!
MARVELLOUS isn't it. Ooh! Suit ME, sir!

Unimaginable that The Loco should only have a current rating of 8.7! I used to drink here many years ago when it really was a dive. Since Steve bought it 3 years ago, it's become more of a wonderful hybrid of church and home to me. No better place to worship at the altar of real ale in the whole town, and always a hearty welcome from Steve & Liz and their band of merry staff. Extraordinarily well kept ale, and a startling rotating range of 'em to boot. Never a dull moment and many an unexpected moment. This pub goes up to eleven! Steve... WE LOVE YOU!

A wonderful pub. The landlord Steve is truly committed to providing a superb range of real ales. The clientele are varied and include some exceptional characters.

The pub is situated on the very edge of the town close to the railway sidings.
A traditional English pub with games such as Northanpton skittles, darts, dominoes & cribbage a regular feature. A model locomotive trundles around the bar above your head as you sup your pint. A good range of beers are on offer and are constantly changing, so you can try something new on each visit.
Sunday roast is superb and excelent value.
