Nice riverside aspect pub, on different levels. However, it`s tired looking and needs a lick of paint both outside and in. Had a pint of Greene King IPA, which was rather good.

Nice views of the river as we sat outside having a pint. Interesting mix of clientele ranging from a hen party to football fans, all rubbing along nicely together. Worth dropping in for one if in the area.

if you like eating bad food by a river this is the one to go to.

i don't, so i don't.

Typical GK outlet, inoffensive but of little merit.

Quite right. Cambridge needs more flats.
Trabbs_Boy - 12 Sep 2009 13:43
I understand its about to be pulled down to make way for more flats.

This sizeable and quite rambling Greene King pub is pleasantly situated on the riverside but as a result can get very busy and touristy at certain times. The interior is split over 3 levels but far from feeling cavernous, it has plenty of nooks and crannies and generally feels reasonably intimate given the size of the pub. The 2 bars are situated on ground and upper levels with the middle level more of a loungey area with sofas and tub chairs. Plenty of old pictures of the city and then there is the debateable Pink Floyd connection.but I would leave it to the individual to decide how much of the story presented is deemed worthy of inclusion of the pubs history. The beers come from the usual Greene King range 3 Ales available on my visit (Speckled Hen, Abbott & IPA) at very reasonable prices given the touristy area and decent enough quality. Not an over extensive menu if you are looking to eat (as we were). There is a large terrace outside where the ducks await the crumbs and the punts are ready to whisk you off for a jolly on the Cam. The place certainly has its attraction and is worth popping in as part of a crawl or for a brisk session but not really a place I would choose to spend evenings in on regular basis.

A food led pub next to the River Cam. A nice view of the river can be seen at the rear of the pub. I imagine those tables facing the rear windows are very popular. Only GK's IPA and Abbott available on handpump on our visit last Wednesday. Very quiet on the afternoon visit and only a quick Guinness here. The staff seemed to be preparing for the evenings diners.

Went in yesterday afternoon and the place was empty and no papers available any more.

Pleasant atmosphere (my visit was a Friday afternoon) in the large food-based pub on the river. Unfortunately only GK beers on offer though.

Not so inspiring pub next to the river in Cambridge.
Too busy for me. Some ales on but nothing notable.

tell that to the couple from Peru..!

The stuff about Pink Floyd is a bag o'shite....

Waters and Barrett attended Cambridge High School for Boys (later Hills Rd 6th Form), as did I, and met there, also knowing Gilmour from the next school down the same road

The other two members of Pink Floyd are not from Cambridge at at all

When I was at Hills Rd I used to drink in the Eagle. Does this mean that when I'm rich and famous, that pub will erect a plaque saying it was instrumental in my fame? ;-)

A tourist pub with no regulars and you get harassed as you walk in by students trying to interest you in hiring a punt.Pink Floyd met up here apparently and theres a board on the wall on the left as you enter announcing this.. I ended up taking a photo for a couple who had come from Peru just to stand in front of it.
Not a real ale pub but they do Abbot and another beer and you sit back on the leather sofa and read the Times or Telegraph and look intelligent.
It alright for a pint but thats all.

Lovely building, peerless location, but there's always something missing. Way too busy on the fine days you want to be here, and always packed with tourists. Drop in for a quick one and if it's full nip up the road to the Mill or the Granta

Good place to drink, and uncle Dave's food is just like granny made. but the beer needs sorting out tastes like the lines are never cleaned. Hand pull is good though

Full of character with different levels & bars with views of the river. The food was good, plenty of it. good beer, fair choice of wine. Staff friendly & helpful. Not crowded on a sunny Saturday afternoon in October.

Very busy, usually with tourists, and especially popular in summer, but an essential stop if you're visiting Cambridge. If you can't get a seat and it's a nice day, just walk to The Mill and get a pint to sit on the grass with.

over-priced, no atmosphere.

Yes, very touristy but a great place to take visitors to. This is Cambridge's beach bar! But, why is the lower bar servery never open these afternoons...their are too many stairs between the top bar and the riverside seats for all but the most skillful drinks carriers!

Spent half a day in this pub last year, watching Wimbledon, people punting in the rain, and supping the odd pint or 8. Didn't have a great selection of beers on, but the few that we had were nice.

Maybe we picked a good day as it wasn't full of tourists.

Expensive, over-rated, packed with tourists in the summer and worst of all, the beer is mediocre at best.

Great beer, nice river views and good value food. The only disadvantage is that it can be overrun with tourists, being next to one of the punt/boat hire companies in Cambridge.
